New Shop Underway!

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Well o got to work some more downstairs today. Man this has been a lengthy reno but is really is a blast. Today, I built a wall where the tool box was located, finished one on the opposite side of the shop and painted them both beige. I move my lumber storage over to the other side of the basement were I now have about 80 board feet of tiger maple. I am going to add at least one more outlet to the second wall, while I made a small door opening to a two pronged outlet that I truly did not want to re locate. Quick before shot from this morning and another with the 8′ wall added. That wall will be extended 4 more feet at some point but no further. My mobile Festool carts will get some wiggle room and I can re organize by sas and routers. My Festool and Bosch sanders are already on the mobile assembly table in sliding drawers. Oh……..man. My back is killing me.

It’s actually quite bright down there thanks to the four fluorescent ballast lights and the fifth light bulb. I installed four light fixtures this past winter. Can’t get too much brighter down there unless I remove the top two stories and have a glass ceiling

What rolair do you have Chris?

I sometimes wish I would have gone that route. The bull is a little heavy but is a great compressor. It may have been nice to have a bigger stationary rolair for the shop and then the air buddy for away games!

Oh I got ya. The basement is a traditional style with a stair in the first third of the foundation. That’s just a corner of the basement. After today, I added a storage rack for hard wood lumber on that wall. It will also serve as my lifting area as I have an Olympic cage I will be setting up there. Where all the pellets are is going to be a material break down area for my table saw, the pellets will be stored in the shed from now on giving me twice the size I am used too.

My new Jet 31″ clamps finally arrived. I ordered them on Black Friday! Now I have to make me another clamp rack 🙂

Those don’t look like Festool clamps… How did you forget and order something that wasn’t green? 😛

Got some more work done today. The photo looks crooked, it’s not, it’s a panorama shot that I screwed up…..

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Man Bro looking good man I love those Freud lights man oh and that Kapex is pretty nice to. 😉 one day man…. One day…..

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Yeah, I really love those lights. I scored to Gladiator metal cabinets in Woot for a steal so now I’m going to add another wall near the furnace and place them there. I moved the Rikon over to the wall next to the stairs. Nobody commented on the green lines!!!!!! Cmon! That’s hardcore!!!!! I am moving the Kapex over to the new wall with its owned designated power supply for it and the Midi. I’m hoping to have the fast caps installed soon. I’ve got to put them together but making the new rolling cart for my Dewalt tool box sucked without support wings as I already toes apart the ones I made for my Kapex.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Oh and I forgot, last night I moved the U.S. Bennington Battle Flag over to the corner where the City water tie in is. I had to trim down the shelf I made and whipped out the Makita brushless barrel grip jigsaw. Man that thing is awesome!

SwaglosrevivalMember since Oct 2014

U have the barrel grip jigsaw!! Cool

SwaglosrevivalMember since Oct 2014

It wouldn’t compare to the carvex?

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Oh Gawd no! But….it’s still awesome!

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Yeah, small casters that do lock but I want to be able to swing it of of the way and the way I had it set up previously was a pain. It looks like it might be flimsy as there is no lower support but the design was made so I can park it over other items to get it out the way. The 2×6 construction is reinforced underneath by several 2×4 cross braces preventing lateral sway when you roll the box out of the way. Glued and screwed all of the joints to boot.

chadlanthierMember since Mar 2013

It’s all coming together chris. Nice job

Thanks Chad!

Added 10 more useable feet of wall space yesterday and painted it. Crazy down there! Got my DW745 on wheels too!

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

I don’t think I’ll be making him jealous 😉

However, just finished putting together my best fence system. Hung the other gladiator cabinet and did the walls. Now off to get manure for the second tier garden wall I’m building my Wife. Thankfully I can go to work tomorrow and relax 😉

Pete, that’s the deluxe porter cable 12″ dovetail jig. I haven’t used it yet! 🙁 Been waiting to make room in my shop to actually use it! Plus, my neighbor has asked that I build some wooden boxes for a new amp he has designed. I’m going to be using the jig and my Domino like crazy here shortly!

wow very cool, i didn’t even know they made that, cant wait to see what you make with it

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

And I got my Fastcap Best Fence set up. Also added a rolling cart for my DW734. No the DW745 and DW734 can scoot all over the shop. The DW734 table is a bit longer and has underneath storage for my Delta scroll saw and Skil grinder as they don’t get used too much but are nice to have handy. Limited pics for a reason but here ya go!

That Festool green sticker looks pretty sharp on the yellow box. Maybe Festool and Dewalt could form a partnership!

Well Moxy, I’m not exactly as big a snob as I act! I’m not the most welcome contributor on the FOG. 😀

Not quite the shop so to speak but my Wife wants a potting bench so we tore up one of my old work tables, which cleared some room for me by the way. Here she is cutting up 2xs with my DCS391.

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Now that’s what I call LOVE bro when u can tear one of ur own work benches down and let the wifey use ur tools all for a potting bench. Good job bro!! Remember to post some pics of how it turns out brotha!!

krutonMember since Jun 2015

She looks like she knows what she is doing too. My wife would have been trying to use the square to saw the board!
