Wow, nice transformation so far. Keep up the good work. How tall are your ceilings down there?

Thanks Bryan, yup I’m thinking over the KAPEX or opposite it in line with the other one but I will probably for over the saw and planer area.
thought it would look nice right above my router table……
chris prolly wont share those lights lol 😀
=)
Whooooo…..meeeeee?
So with the upstairs remodel done I got to try to work in my shop again! I want to build my FIRST real work bench. I’ve got three months there but they are really just based butt joints and screws, really flimsy.
I decided to try my hand at lap joints. I’ve never done them but with two or three glue points I figured what the heck. I am using PT and Douglas Fir as I only needed to buy three sticks for the right amount of wood. I’m not going off any one plan, more of a bastardized heavy duty table. I’m going to look at adding dog holes, maybe cabinets when I’m done. If I add cabinets, I’ll buckle and get the sys drawers. Overall length is 5′, it’s going to end up being about 34″ when I add two slabs of CDX and two slabs of thin hard board. Not pretty but the lap joints and glue plus SPAX it’s going to be strong. I decided to double up the legs and tomorrow I will get some locking casters….so maybe 36″?
Anyways, I got started late after going to the dump and HD so I’m just finishing up for the night. The lap joints were fun. I used my KAPEX as my DW745 can’t use a dado set so let me tell you, my arm is aching but the KEX worked awesome. The dado lever and DC is awesome. Lots of work but well worth it. Going to have a porch rocker and watch some Grimm.
Nice framework Chris! Gunna be nice and strong by the looks of it
great job chris – thats a solid bench 😛
i build something similar yesterday for my wife, a mobile potting bench. i might build a little bit super ultra solid but who cares lol
gonna post some pictures tmw in a new post.
and i used my new ROS65VC today to smooth down the sides etc. it works like charm – just love it, one-hand operation -> no problem.
now i just have to build 2 huge drawers out of plywood and add some cedar to the bench.
I didn’t do any cool work on a shop but I did go to HD to buy a bunch of gardening supplies mostly top soil and compost right now.
Nice job!!
coming out very nice bro! Making me wanna build another bench 😉ChrisK1970 wrote:

Thanks a lot guys! I can’t wait to get to work on it this morning. Trying to figure out how to proceed and which direction to go.
looking very nice Chris! That looks like a solid workbench. Are you gonna add a bench vise or an end vise?
Chris, that bench looks like its rock solid! nice work.. i see from your jigsaw videos that its a bit more finished now.. make sure to post some pics or even a video of it when its all done!
Thanks so much guys! Yeah that bench is super solid. In the Festool video I didn’t hit the locking castors so I hit them. The bench doesn’t move and inch. The entire top is hinged and its enclosed for storage. I finished my Kreg mount tonight and hung it so I’ll post some more soon. Thanks again!
So Samantha and I went out to buy a new car for her. I then got to work in the shop! So, added some stain to hide the upcoming paint and stain sure to accompany this table, added four 20mm dog holes and some Bessey auto toggle clamps. Also a small tool tray to the front of the beast!
Looking good Chris. I like the color and did you put wheels on it too? What kind of car did you get for your wife?
Came out badass bro!! U really hooked up UR workbench man, UR making me wanna build another one 🙂

Who……? Meeeeeeeeeeeeee?????????;)
Chris that bench is bitchin’! I think the stain turned out very good.
Just retro fitted a cabinet underneath and added a drawer with full extension of course the trough prevents the lid from opening completely but plenty of room to get the tool out of the l boxx.
Got “her” a new car… I like that… did you get “her” a few new guns and tools while you were at it!?!! LOL
the bench is looking great!
Whaaaaaaaaaat??????? Nope no new tools the last couple of weeks for “her” 🙂
It is coming along really nice Chris
i just look through your picture of your workshop and i am really jealous, it looks amazing. i wish i had that workshop.
Thanks PeteW! It’s still a work in progress. I moved the Kapex to the opposite side before vacation and am adding my Dad’s radial with a dado blade maybe tomorrow or Monday. Still doing a lot but this past week and today was vacation! Can’t wait to hit the shop again.
sweet ……
And I just built two miter saw wings for my Kapex. Last day of vacation so I wanted to get this done. Super simplistic wings, 3/4″ plywood 60″x8″ with 3/4″ plywood fence. I aseembled these on 2×4 881mm long to accolade the height of the saw on the table. Still a work in progress so…..:)
Here’s a quick pic of side 1
. Looks good BROTHA!!ChrisK1970 wrote:

Great bench Chris, shop sure is coming along

Thanks Chad! I’m getting there! Sucks doing projects in this mess but I’m one blessed dude to be sure!
somebody’s NOT working if the shop is not messy
Looks good Chris. I think I just twisted my neck trying to look at your picture. ::)
Thanks Carroll. Beats the crap outta me why the pic rotates! Has to do with my iPad I think.
Today I added a shop built cabinet to my workable. I made it out of scraps just like the other drawer assembly, this with particle and 3/4″ plywood. All in all came out okay. I’ll be making door for both cabinets maybe this week
Looks good BROTHA!!! I had plans to “try” and organize my garage today…it’s been so messy man…
Things are coming along nicely. I like the new kapex setup
My garage is so bad right now it looks like a bomb went off in it 🙁
It looks good Chris. More storage always helps. Our garage is horrible right now. We currently have three tractors in there and my dad usually keeps his car in there. If you need to work on anything something has to be moved out.
I yearn for the day I have a garage. It will be an oversized two story two bay garage. But mostly a man cave full of tools and dreams, and the tears of unrealized plans…..oh yeah….and beer 😀
Lol bro I like the way U think!
Chris hang in there some day some day…….I tell myself that too………
Ha ha…thanks Comp. One day! Right?!?!??!
I like all tape measure holders there on front of bench. I can never find a tape measure when I need one.

Thanks Chad! My problem too. I bought some handy bars at lowes and some washers and bolts tochadlanthier wrote:

Make the appropriate space for each bar. Works out pretty slick!
Looking real nice Chris
Thanks Mikey!
