Have you jumped on the battery-powered lawn mower bandwagon?  If you’re like me, I have been skeptical over the years, but now I can’t see myself going back to gas.  A battery-powered OPE system is so much nicer.  Reduced noise levels, no gas, oil, or filters to mess with and the power has increased over the years to give gas a true run for the money.  However not all battery-powered lawn mowers are worth the money.  So today we look at the RYOBI AWD Lawn Mower and see if this is worth the investment.

RYOBI AWD Lawn Mower Overview

RYOBI is the home brand for The Home Depot.  With RYOBI, you can buy a lawnmower that is inexpensive or you can pay more and get all the bells and whistles.  However, there is one thing RYOBI is known for, great features, performance, and all for a good value.

Today we look at their premium lawnmower, model RY401210.  This is a lawnmower packed with features, said to offer premium performance and won’t break the bank. So let’s take a look at the RYOBI AWD Lawn Mower.

RYOBI AWD Lawn Mower Features

The RYOBI mower is a rear-wheel-drive mower that is self-propelled and can run up to 70 minutes. The 21″ deck has a lifetime warranty.

This mower can bag, mulch, or side discharge. At the heart of the mower, there is a powerful brushless motor to help plow through any tough job.

This mower is powered by a single 40V RYOBI battery.  When one battery is depleted, a user can turn the key and will have a fresh battery to finish the job.

The mower has four 10″ wheels to help get over rough terrain.

Using this machine is extremely easy.  Just pull back on the handle and push a button.  The optional 4-wheel drive is great for hills and a user can easily adjust the speed for the self-propelled option.

When not in use, the handle easily folds up for storage.

One of my favorite features is the emulation of the mulching plug.  No more plugs to pull or lose.  Just slide a handle over and you can easily set the machine up to bag or mulch.

Often overlooked, RYOBI did a great job with the handle design.  You can see the triangle design which locks the handle in place and helps eliminate sloppy play.

A user can adjust all four wheels with a single lever.  There are seven positions from 1.5″ to 4″.

RYOBI AWD Lawn Mower Performance

I have to say that this is a great lawnmower.  The mower is powerful, easy to use, and has great run time.  Plus the cut quality is great.  We have tested a lot of battery-operated mowers over the years and this is easily one of the top performers along with the EGO mowers.

One reason the cut quality is so good, plus the bagging and mulching is because of the two-blade system, which does an awesome job.

While I like everything about this mower, I do wish it came with a dual charger.  Plus sometimes the wheels aren’t free-spinning so it can make turning a little harder plus tear up a little grass when making turns.

RYOBI AWD Lawn Mower Value

When I first saw the price of $799 at The Home Depot, I did have sticker shock because I am not used to seeing RYOBI priced so high.  However, I do understand this is a top-of-the-line mower.  The motor is solid and offers good cut quality, plus this has some great features to help justify the cost.  If you are looking for a premium mower, you will have to pay up, no matter what line you get into.  So with that said, if you are going to grow into the RYOBI line and you pride yourself on a good-looking cut lawn, this is a great option for you.

RYOBI AWD Lawn Mower Final Thoughts

Bottom line, this is a great lawnmower that is packed with features, offers great performance is reasonably priced for what it offers.  Sure, I wish it came with a dual charger and a couple of other items, but the fact RYOBI has a ton of outdoor power tools you can jump into and offers a good value, it’s a good buy.

  1. Bought a ryobi lawn mower Oct 2022. I used it 4 times. Brought it out this year will not start. I contacted ryobi and was told to take it to one of their repair shops. I called 3 different shops and was told it would take anywhere from 4 to 6wks for them just to look at it and even longer if it needs a part. Not to mention that the closest repair shop is 30 mins from me. Sorriest purchase I have ever made.

    • Sorry to hear about that experience. It really stinks when you buy a product, give them your hard-earned money and then they don’t support it. I hear this all to much.
