That’s just a shame Comp I’ve got the ocean 20 minutes away, the lakes regions 30 minutes away and I’m and hour from the White Mountains. And 20 minutes from Woodcraft….. 😉

I am lucky to have a Woodcraft, and a WoodWerks (It’s basically a Rockler Store) with in 25-30 minutes from my house.  But I do miss living in Rural Northern Wisconsin, which is basically an American version of Canada LOL, except no hockey.

Made some changes to the shop including cutting down and moving a wall. Moving the Rikon lathe and adding my big black beauty to the main area.

JimboS1iceMember since Sep 2015

I like your wall of clamps!

Thanks guys. Protool those are a combination of Jet and Bessey K Body Revo parallel clamps and some Dewalt XL clamps. I have a bunch of 12″ “F” clamps on a rack below the charging station.

The flag is the Bennington Flag and was flown during the Battle of Bennington in Vermont where militiamen from NH and Massachusetts backed by Vermont militia defeated British and Hessians forces.

The rubber mats, yeah. I’ve got a bad back. They actually inter connect via tabs and are super dense. And thanks for reminding me….I don’t have a garage 🙁

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Wow. All that and a history lesson. I am amazing.

Thanks Chris, I never thought of putting some mats down, has I have a bad back also. I do have a garage, but its not heated/air conditioned, thus I rather have my shop in the basement. Although getting new machines is a pain, for me its worth it.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Thanks Wigwag, I get the mats at HD and was buying them one or two at a time over several months. They are 3’x3′ and are $25 each. They have tabs on two sides making them inter connectable and they are really high quality. Especially for a damp basement. The bottoms of the mats have tiny ridges and they are festooned with holes that allow for quick drying. As far as heat, it was -14f this morning and I use a kerosene torpedo heater with an open window to keep the shop above 50!

your basement not heated? or just not insulated? as for dampness run a dehumidifier for a few days get that water out of the air and it will become easier to keep warmer as well. I guess I have it made in my basement shop, fully insulated and drywalled house is  built on top of a hill, basement is only 4 feet in the ground and front is less with the entrance to basement ground level it is as warm as the rest of the house even though it is -30 outside……

JimboS1iceMember since Sep 2015

That’s nuts dude, your house heat doesn’t supply your basement?

Man chrisk looks awesome bro!! Might not have a garage at the moment but u have a badass shop thus far very nice set up my bro!

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Thanks Mike!

Comp, I got two dehumidifiers that run most of the spring and summer. Insulated walls? What’s that? This is an old New Englander Cape. I’ve got a foundation with more cracks than Obama care.

Jimbo, nope.

That’s why I’m moving outside, I’ll heat with a wood stove in my new shop.

well then I am lucky then, heat and dampness is just something I don’t even think about, I walk down the stairs to my shop there is no temperature difference and because the other half is our livable space rec room/theatre room ect ect it is like sitting in the living room. our house is circa 1905ish probably a lot newer than yours

What Comp? That’s why I bought the Sawstop. I can drink a few beers then make highly accurate cuts on my table saw 😉

My wife makes fun of me. I don’t drink anything hard. I will only have one or two beers maybe twice a week. If I have 2 beers I am completely useless. At 220 I should be able to drink five or six but two is the magical number.

ya back in my working days I was the booze cop, we had so much equipment that was not forgiving I refused to work with anyone that had been drinking….after awhile I became known as the drink cop of the shop…..I don’t drink at all myself never have and I’m no way against it but there is a time and a place and work is not one of them……

I had my Mother and Father in Law over for din ear this weekend. My mother in law is really cool and loves the shop and I promised to show her how to use the lathe. She looked over at the rack of clamps and asked me why I had so many….

lol and you still probably don’t have enough….

Ha. I ran out!!!!!

WigWagWorkshopMember since May 2015

How do you like those style of Bessy Clamps? I been thinking of picking up a few.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

I love them WigWag and ,y Jets too. I buy a bunch of Jets every year around BF and save half, the Besseys are new and they’re great

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Now building an outfeed table for my Sawstop. I got the top done, 1″ sheathing that I edge banded with pine, glue and finish nails. I’ll be adding a table runner and legs with wheels sometime this week,

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Wood glue smells good Protool 😀

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Never have Protool! I had to look it up just to figure out what it was

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

So with this it appears I’ll be making this top into a rolling outfeed assembly table. I’m planning on moving my Rolair compressor to this table and possibly adding some small part / tool drawers to include moving my Dado stack and other saw accessories right to the table. I have to size it accordingly as this spring will probably see me moving outside so I need to fit it out a narrow bulk head. It’s funny when you sit down and start a new project and watch it flourish into something different. What was going to be 2×4 doubles up legs will end up being my second piece of shop furniture. My mobile sanding / assembly table is doing great but it’s very narrow and tall so assembly isn’t working out the way I wanted it to. This will be so what smaller but wider, ah……never plan anything, fly by the seat of your pants. My personal motto.

comp56Member since Sep 2014

I’m sure you will figure out what is best for you, the good thing is having the ability to make what you need and not rely on someone else to do it for you. good work chris…….its like opening up a business, for the first while you are working 100% for the business and then it finally starts giving back rewards…..

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Had some good news at my job today so I went out with my wife and in laws but before I went out, I got to play with my wedding present from my awesome wife! Putting some 8mm tenons into my out feed table I’m assembling….

That’s one sweet tool, I been thinking of getting the DeWalt version.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Thanks a lot Wigwag! This one is the Domino DF500 which makes mortises for free floating tenons made out of solid beechwood or Sipo (though you can make them out of any hardwood).

I just finished up the casement, she is perfectly squared. I used 24 dominos for this casement spaced approximately 4-5″ apart. I glues and then used my Dewalt finish nailer to hold her in place as the plywood is about a year old and has warped slightly. Not too bad having it squared right center! I made a 28″ box that will eventually have two drawers for parts for the saw. The second opening is going to be my compressor station. I will have my Rolair JC10 compressor and two air guns in there. The top will be removable and it will roll on 3″ heavy duty rubber casters that lock individually. I’m going to let the cabinet dry up and play some BF4 and then head down in an hour or so and play some more.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

I will probably end up putting in another heavy duty shop power supply in there too. This is a pretty fun project all in all and is being built with left over supplies (minus the drawer runners I’ll end up getting).

comp56Member since Sep 2014

usually no woman no cry…..but in your case no woman no Domino…..awesome gift

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Made some more progress this evening including the addition of a shelf, an extra wide drawer with 100 lb capacity and the casters. Coming along fairly swiftly now….

JimboS1iceMember since Sep 2015

Looking real good Chris!

Thanks Jimbo and Protool. I’ll be adding a 3/4″ backing to the unit and then add the top which I’ll be able to be switched out as needed. The carcass will be the main stay for the unit with the added power strip. I’m thinking about adding a roll away line for my air hose but that might be wasteful. Although I built my work bench the year before last this is definitely going to double as my assembly table. All plywood on this unit and pretty solid to boot. Tomorrow I’ll be sanding and adding a light finish and was to to the top. I ended up using the lions share of my last piece of plywood on the shelf and the over sized heavy drawer wo I’ll have to pick up another sheet unless I can joint some scraps for the back. I’ve been making this entirely out of shop wood and haven’t had to buy anything but more glue for this one. I’d like to keep it that way.
