With so many sockets sets on the market, I really didn’t know what to buy to replace my Stanley Fatmax black chrome set.

The ratchet is broken so had to look for a new one. At first I wanted the DeWALT sets in the black cases, but then a while ago I saw they have newer sets in stackable cases. Couldn’t find them online besides at Acetool (worldwide shipping). Had to wait a freakin 6 weeks or so, but they came today. They are nice. Was expecting much smaller cases. Got the 1/2″ and 1/4″ sets. Think I’ll also get the 3/8″ and the accessories case for these socketsets. Cut the week in half with some yellow is always good! 🙂

Where were they made? Taiwan?

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Mike said the Tekton ones were made in Taiwan and I know the Stanley ones are too. Maybe Dewalt?

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Yup Taiwan BK.. Wish they were made in the USA that would’ve been even more awesome but as I said from owning the Tekton and the dewalt mechanic tool set there very nice guys

That’s awesome for a first turn Chris! I have always wanted to try my hand at that.

While I would prefer USA made tools, I feel much better buying Taiwanese tools than China or India…

Thanks Jason. I just did some more turning on it. Total blast. Machine has some serious power.

Mike, I’m holding out for US made impact sockets.

BK13Member since Nov 2013

Outside of some Sunex super extra mondo deep sockets (so I don’t have to use an extension when I torque lug nuts) I think the rest of my impact sockets will end up being Wright for standard impacts and Craftsman/Armstrong/Matco universal sockets.

that’s coo bro any brand names in particular that UR lookin at?
NicholasShetleyMember since Nov 2013

What will you be using them for Chris? I have some napa professional (rebranded Sunex) impact sockets that have held up great. They are made in Taiwan though. There is also the mega ingersoll rand set that Dan and Eric and also Daniel reviewed. I think it is the best value out there. It can be found on amazon for under $220. Here is the link for the IR set.http://www.amazon.com/Ingersoll-SK34C86-8-Inch-2-Inch-Standard/dp/B000HGKR6O

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Nicholas, I am not a mechanic so I do t see using my IDH182 for taking lug nuts off but I would really be using these for exterior projects this spring. I want to build a pergola and I’m going to use lags for fastening as well as some dominos and regular tenons. I’m also thinking about building a fence and the cross members will be lagged in so I really want to use those drivers for lags in PT no automotive applications. Are the I R ones you linked made here?

NicholasShetleyMember since Nov 2013

I’m not for sure but I doubt it. IR is an American company though. You won’t need the 3/8 impact sockets for your uses if you will be using the Bosch.

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Wow I didn’t know bosch had sockets.

so who gets the kit first

rfwjrMember since Jul 2014

Buy it Madman, throw some more blue in the pile.

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

haha, no need for it… 😛

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

my free bosch battery should be delivered last tuesday 24th but somebody threw it on the wrong truck and it went to San Francisco.

today my ups driver tried to deliver it but he wanted about $50 COD (brokerage fee). i told him its a free item etc, he understood me he cant drop the charges and if he would leave the package without getting a check he can get fired.

so he told me i should come by the office at around 5 and i should talk to the manager.

i called KMS for the invoice which shows its a free item, received it within a few seconds – really great that company.

so i just printed everything to show the manager that its a free item – hopefully it works.

I went to HD tonight to get a new razor scraper and some dowels.  Ended up leaving with.  They were clearing the Ridgid sander for $150.00 and the Milwaukee tapes were an extra impulse buy someone had left by the register.

great package you got there chris.

i hadnt any luck with my UPS package today.

went to the local ups costumer center and they couldnt really help me, from there they called the main office in the next city.

and i could talk to the lady….

the first package i received from KMS i already paid a brokerage fee from about $35, which included the complete invoice.

then kms send out the missing battery which is actually a free item and its on my first invoice…

so UPS put a COD on that package from about $50 to collect another brokerage fee.

i talk today to a lady from the main ups store here in town and she told me i have to contact the shipper that they tell the shipping company that the package is paid for, then they would contact ups and they can drop the charges and release the package….if i understood it correct. but i mind gonna call the office again on monday just to make sure or maybe the ups hotline.

im so mad with that bs, if KMS would have put the battery in the package inthe first place i wouldnt have all those fu****** problems.

lets see what KMS gonna tell me/ or how the gonna handle it….when they are not cooperative ill send the hole sh** back and get a refund.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

That sucks 🙁 That’s the big problem with international buying the fees UPS just gets greedy. That’s why the TIA giveaways have been USA only they got burned on international shipping a few times because of tariffs and brokerage fees. A free tool got really expensive fast

Geez Madman, sorry to hear about that. In my case, they kept trying to deliver during the early pm….you know….when EVERYONE is him instead of work. So I used the UPS program over analyze mentioned and had them ship it to an access point. When I talked to them she said “I don’t know why you owe UPS, let me call them” she called me back fifteen minutes later and said that I didn’t owe anything. She was as confused as I was.

Gotta love it when it works out like that Chris!

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

What ?! So you ended up paying nothing?

overanalyzeMember since Oct 2011

Sweet laser tape madman! I like that it is rechargeable with micro usb. Thats what all my phone chargers are.

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

chris do you know what she did to take of the charges? because i think its not the brokerage fee, COD is for KMS prolly.

the brokerage fee comes via mail.

overanalyze wrote:

thanks man – its a mini usb but not the same one like for phones…its a little bit bigger

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

i just called the UPS hotline, they told me that the shipper declared the package with 507 USD (thats the amount for the items in the first package i already received) thats why there was a COD on it – 44.93 bucks for duty and taxes.

so i called KMS but nobody was there so i left a message because there is just 1 person in the online sales department.

so the UPS guy told me that the shipper has to revise the invoice by calling UPS and then they will drop the charges.

even when KMS would put a normal invoice with the original price it would be ok….because everything below 200 is free of charge/fee

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Man that sucks MM hope they get that fixed quick.

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

ya still waiting for the phone call. literally that package is 2miles down the street waiting for me.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Let us know what happens Madman. I’m thinking I’ll icks nay on the purchase a in the future if this is a common issue. Depending on the saving it might not be worth it.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Anything shipping international seems to be risky with fees and such.

NERemodelingMember since Aug 2014

In the future ask for it to be sent normal postal service (between Canada and US I know that will work) I’m pretty sure, but not 100%, that there won’t be a brokerage fee. Another option would be to ask if the shipper would be willing to mark it as less than $200 value

Chris, hopefully you won’t get charged but don’t be too bummed if a bill shows up in the mail in a week or so.. that’s what happened with me.

Madman, I’m sure you will get that mess straightened out so good luck to you!
