My Experience with the Mesa II 415BZ

Here's an honest look at what works and what doesn't with the Monument Mesa II 415BZ. This isn't a first-impression review, it's an update based on regular use and real cooking.

If you want the full breakdown on specs, assembly, and features, check out my complete review of the Monument Mesa II 415BZ on Tools in Action. This article focuses on the honest stuff: what I genuinely like about this grill and what I wish was different.

No sales pitch, no sugarcoating. Just the reality of cooking on this grill.

What I Really Like

Monument Grill Mesa 415

Broil Zone Sear Burners

The two right burners hit 600°F in about five minutes and create a serious crust on steaks and burgers. The segmented control knobs let you dial in the exact heat level you need.

Monument Grill Mesa 415

Cast-Iron Cooking Grates

These grates hold heat exceptionally well and create deep sear marks. They're heavy, durable, and distribute heat evenly across the cooking surface.

Monument Grill Mesa 415

Pegboard

The perforated side panels let you hang tools, towels, and accessories right on the grill. Keeps everything organized and within reach without cluttering the work area.

Monument Grill Mesa 415

Foldable Left Side Shelf

The left shelf gives you 221 square inches of workspace and folds down when you need to save space. Great for smaller patios or tight storage situations.

Monument Grill Mesa 415

Side Burner

The 12,000 BTU side burner with a stainless steel cover handles sauces, sides, or anything else you need while the main grill is running. Keeping the cook in one location.

Monument Grill Mesa 415

Cast Aluminum Lid

Lightweight enough to lift easily but thick enough to retain heat. Resists corrosion and holds up to extreme weather without warping.

Monument Grill Mesa 415

Swivel Casters with Locks

All four wheels swivel for easy movement, and the locks keep it firmly in place once you've got it positioned where you want it.

Monument Grill Mesa 415

Mechanical Thermometer

The built-in thermometer with a bright red display is easy to read at a glance. No batteries needed.

Monument Grill Mesa 415

Electronic Ignition

Push-button ignition fires up reliably every time. No messing with matches or lighters.  Just turn the dial to light each burner.

What Could Be Better

Warming Rack Could Be Bigger - The 120 square inch warming rack does the job, but it could be larger. That said, making it bigger would cover more of the primary cooking area, so there's a tradeoff. It's fine for keeping a few items warm, but don't expect to use it for a lot of food at once.

No Rotisserie Capability - I wish this grill had a rotisserie setup, but at $399, I get why it doesn't. I had a grill with a rotisserie on my previous setup and only used it twice. It's one of those features that sounds great but doesn't get as much use as you'd think. Still, it would've been nice to have the option.

Drip Pan Design - The drip pan works, but I wish it was designed like the other Monument models that accept aluminum drip pan inserts. Being able to drop in a disposable liner makes cleanup way easier.

The Bottom Line: Is It Worth It?

Yeah, it's worth it. The things I like about the Mesa II 415BZ far outweigh the few things that could be better. The Broil Zone delivers serious searing power, the cast-iron grates perform like grills that cost twice as much, and the stainless steel construction holds up to real-world abuse.

The cons are minor. A bigger warming rack would be nice, but it's not a dealbreaker. No rotisserie? I barely used it on my last grill anyway. The drip pan could be better designed, but it's not stopping me from cooking great food.

At $399, this grill punches way above its price point. The build quality is solid, the performance is consistent, and Monument backs it with an 8-year warranty. You're getting a lot of grill for the money without sacrificing quality.

If you're looking for an honest assessment: buy it. The Mesa II 415BZ delivers where it matters.

FAQ

What's the biggest advantage of the Mesa II 415BZ?

The Broil Zone. Those two sear burners hit 600°F in about five minutes and create a serious crust on steaks and burgers. That kind of heat at this price point is hard to beat.

How does this compare to other grills in the $400 range?

The Mesa II 415BZ has better build quality and more features than most grills at this price. The stainless steel construction and 8-year warranty put it ahead of competitors that use cheaper materials.

Would you buy this grill again?

Yes. Knowing what I know now, I'd still choose the Mesa II 415BZ. It's a solid grill that delivers consistent performance without breaking the bank.

Are the cons you mentioned dealbreakers?

No. They're minor inconveniences, not major flaws. The grill still performs great despite the warming rack being smaller than I'd like or the drip pan not accepting inserts.

Final Thoughts

The Monument Mesa II 415BZ is a solid grill with a few minor quirks. The Broil Zone, cast-iron grates, and stainless steel construction make it a strong performer at $399. The warming rack could be bigger, I'd like a rotisserie option, and the drip pan design could be better, but none of those things stop this grill from doing its job well.

What I like outweighs what could be better by a wide margin. This grill heats up fast, holds temperature in extreme weather, and delivers consistent results every time I cook. The pegboard storage is smarter than I expected, the side burner gets more use than I thought it would, and the overall build quality is impressive for the price.

At the end of the day, this is an honest grill that does what it's supposed to do without any drama. Monument built something that works, backs it with an 8-year warranty, and priced it right. That's worth a lot more than a perfect drip pan or a rotisserie I'd use twice.
