Milwaukee Announced their Next Generation of Cordless Tools – M18 Fuel

18

Wow it must be my lucky day, another awesome tool from Milwaukee.  This morning we released that Milwaukee has a new Milwaukee Multi-charger that charges both the M12 and M18 at the same time.  I have to say we were pretty excited about that new product.  This time Milwaukee released a more ground breaking tool.  Milwaukee has a new design out for their power tools that is called the Milwaukee M18 Fuel.  The M18 Fuel is designed for extreme performance and has integrated three technologies together.

  • PowerState Brushless Motor
  • Red Lithium Battery Technology
  • RedLink Plus
We heard and saw first hand this new drill at the Milwaukee event.  All I can say is that we were very impressed and this is truly an awesome drill.  More power and lighter weight.  I can’t wait to get my hands on this tool.  OK so what’s so cool about the M18 Fuel?

Milwaukee PowerState Brushless Motor

Obviously the motor is brushless, but what does that mean for you?  It means more durability.  A brushless motor is more efficient at transferring energy.  So it converts power and torque better.  Since it can do more efficiently, you have less heat build up (also less noise).  Less heat build up means longer life.  So Milwaukee is providing a more durable and stronger tool with the PowerState.  A motor that can transfer energy better means less energy is being wasted and more is being transferred to the work.  An all around win, plus you should have a small tool.

Milwaukee Red Lithium Battery

By now you should know about Milwaukee Red Lithium, but if not it is one of the best on the market.  With more run time, power and recharges; you can do more.

Milwaukee RedLink Plus

OK you have the tool and the battery, now you need a way to make them work efficiently together.  That is where the Redlink comes into play.  Redlink bridges the gap and makes the tool, battery and charger all work together to maintain ideal conditions.

So we talked about all the positives to this new generation of technology.  Here is the downside, it doesn’t hit the market until Spring of 2012.  I don’t know about you, but I want it now.  Check out more about the Milwaukee M18 Fuel system.

  1. Well looks like the Dewalt 20 volt tools will be going back to lowes. I really like the feel of the tools, but Dewalt was really lazy on embracing new tech when they launched the 20 volt max aka 18 volt line. Makita and now millwaukee are both introducing brushless tools.

  2. I’m heartbroken! I just sunk over $1000 in the current line less than a month ago : ( I guess anything that boots Dewalt to the curb is good, but I wish I’d know so I could’ve waited on the new one’s. Oh well, progress is a good thing, viva Milwaukee!

    • Yeah that whats hard with technology, everything changes so quickly. Good news is the Milwaukee is still not coming out with them for a while, so the Dewalt is still new. We worked with the 20V and they are nice.

  3. Well also like the one guy on this site I really like the m12 line of tools. I just wish they could reduce the size of the impact driver on the m12 and m18 line of tools.

  4. However, I am extremely happy they didn’t change batteries again. Don’t see any reason Red Lithium shouldn’t be in for the long haul.

    • That would have sucked. I like the M18 line, never had any problems with the battery. It would stink trying to start all over again with the batteries. I am also glad they stuck with the M line.

  5. I have no problem with updating batteries as long as the system is backwards compatible. Also what’s with dewalt not having a fuel gauge on their tools is it another patent issue?

  6. Yea, I’m really hoping Milwaukee’s next generation batteries are backward compatible. I like what Dewalt tried to do with the Nano base.

  7. I have 5 year old ni-cad Milwaukee stuff. The new batteries are not compatible with my batteries. I was going to upgrade batteries and found out. So the Milwaukee stuff I now own is destined for the scrap heap before I wear them out. I’ve always bought Milwaukee stuff and liked it. I don’t know if I’ll do that again. Makita, Ryobi, and Dewalt are backwards compatible, probably ‘gonna go with one of those.

  8. Too bad the Makita brushless has been out for 2 years. The Makita brushless impact is a really nice tool and has some serious run time compared to my regular impact driver. It’s nice to see companies moving forward with the brushless technology.

  9. Couple corrections for the comments above.
1 dewalt has already introduced a brushless impact driver
2 dewalt has started putting a fuel gauge on the 20v batteries.

I have tested all 3 ( milwaukee, Makita, and dewalt 20v) and Dewalt is far superior

  10. Facts: I use cordless tools in the toughest cordless impact driver business there is. I have alway used makita for dependability. I would watch the dewalts and milwaukees break time after time. then the fuel driver came out by Milwaukee. It is far far better than Makita or Dewalt. I bought the new brushless Makita,Dewalt and Millwaukee. The Makita and dewalt both bit the dust. The milwaukee just keeps on going.
