Husky Compressor Review

What comes to your mind when you hear Husky?  No, I am not talking about the dog, I am talking about the tool brand.  I can’t say for sure, but if you ask someone, I am pretty sure they will describe Husky as a brand sold at The Home Depot, that is inexpensive and designed for the homeowner.   At least that’s how I think of the brand.  Recently we were out in New York and had a chance to visit with Husky and some other brands.  While we were looking at the Husky products, this compressor caught my eye.  We have done some compressors in the past like the Husky 20 gallon and the Husky 3 gallon.  While they were great compressors, you know they were just made for the homeowner who needs a reliable compressor.  As I was looking at this new compressor, I could tell right off the bat that this was something different and not your normal homeowner compressor.  This compressor was made to be a workhorse.  So I was happy when we had the chance to do a Husky compressor review.  So let’s jump in and see what this is all about.

Husky Compressor ReviewNow I am not saying a homeowner can’t buy this compressor, but this is made for the tradesman and for a reasonable price.  This is designed to be used by a trim crew all the way up to a three man framing crew. So how do they do it?  Husky built this compressor with a 4 gallon tank which means it’s not big and bulky when you have to carry it around.  They attach a 1.7 HP soft start motor to help this bad boy compress air.  All this is nicely bundled in a protective roll cage.  The cage even has a nice cord management to keep your power cord stored when not in use.  So get this.  This is 225 psi which makes this hold over 3x as much usable air as a 4 Gal. 125 psi tank, which means you can fire 3 time as many nails at any one time.  Pretty cool isn’t it?  The max output is 150 PSI.

All sounds great, but what about the SCFM?  Here is another whopping stat.  This compressor is 5.1 SCFM which means it will run a ton of different tools or even run a bunch at the same time.  So are they first to market with all this?  No.  However they did create a compressor that is 25% lighter and up to 25% quieter than it’s competitors. Now don’t get me wrong because I love all the stats I just mentioned, but for me, I love that it’s oil-less and best of all, it will easily start up even at -20 Degree F.

The tank is steel, which means you should be draining the tank to expel the water build up.  Lucky for all of us, it has a nice 1/4 turn ball drain valve which is easy to get to.  Still not enough?  How about a 3 year warranty to help you sleep better at night.

Husky Compressor Review – Final Thought

Okay, now that you know a little bit about this compressor, let’s get down to business and what do we think of it.  As I said before, we have had Husky compressors in the past and they have been great.  For the price, they are worth every penny.  Now that Husky has this extreme compressor out, I think it’s worth every penny.  You can pick this up at The Home Depot for about $270.  Having the capability of more usable air means less junk on your job site.  Using one compressor instead of two or three, means less noise, less amp draw, less to carry around and a savings in your pocket book.  While the unit isn’t the quietest we have heard, it is definitely not the loudest.  We love the maintenance free where we don’t have to worry about oil loss.  Best of all, it will even start when the outside air is -20 or higher.  These are the times you just want your stuff to work, so you can work and warm up.  The only question is whether your other tools will be able to perform at this temp.

  1. Husky makes quality stuff, especially their tool cabinets. I’m really here for the Metabo grinder giveaway though #tiacrew

  2. Wow sweet compressor, I love my husky compressor, I have the silent flow and as nice and quiet as it is i just wish it had more CFM, but the aluminum tank in Chicago weather is a blessing. Hopefully this post goes through I’ve had issues in the past! #tiacrew
