Not even close.
Battery diagnostic tool.
Jobsite charger with usb charging port, 120V pass though, and Bluetooth speakerphone capability. Or a charger that also doubles as a low power 120VAC power source.
How long you gonna keep us hanging?

Pretty much there. Charger w/pass through and speaker phone. The idea being it’s on the drawing board and allows for conference calls. It’s actually a design from 2011 and I’m not sure it’ll ever make it out now.
Is the patent pending or issued? If the patent was issued in 2011, that means Makita submitted maybe around the 2005 timeframe, before smartphones really took off… I think Bluetooth was just starting to get traction then. That also means the concept or idea may have been generated 2 years prior, unless their lawyers are really aggressive. Didn’t Makita introduce the 18V LXT batteries around 2002? Who’s the history buff?
I guess my point is that we might be looking at an idea that is 14yo…
Anybody knew about these releases? Had no idea…
Subcompact impact wrench 3/8″

Power head

Interesting attachments…
Being the impact wrench connoisseur I am, I’m a bit jealous I’m not in the Makita line. After buying the m18 mid torque I’ve found that I along with the rest of my crew like to use the smallest possible tool that can get the job done. For us that’s a compact impact wrench for 90% of our work and this sub compact looks like it would have about the right balance of size and torque. I really like how sleek the head and body of the tool look for being able to get into a tight corner.
I knew about the wrench but I must have misunderstood something about the power head or forgot specifics. I thought it was going to be part of the 4 stroke gas line but then again the x2 line for it sound familiar.
I also found this. Maybe something to make a tool AWS compatible?
9,700 RPM for the string trimmer, that’s in gas territory! No other cordless, even Ego, goes over 6,500-7,000 RPM.
RPM =/= Torque. A Dremel spins at 30,000 RPM, try mowing your grass with it.

You can’t really compare a dremel to a string trimmer. The mass of the dremel head is minuscule compared to a trimmer (much less force and momentum in its rotation).
Manufacturers should quote torque specs for trimmers. Strange they don’t.

That is the motor rpm not the head rpm. The trimmer attachment model EM400MP has a gear ratio of 14:19 so the head rpm is about
7150 rpm.

Thanks, good info. I didn’t consider it from that perspective.

That makes it look like the bluetooth compatible tools actually require you to purchase it before being able to use the bluetooth.
Which is a little annoying because a) they can’t just do it out of the box even though you’re paying for it, and b). that would suggest you can’t make the Bluetooth features backwards compatible with other current tools, many of which won’t likely be replaced/updated for years.
Personally, I would like something that extends this functionality to any tool you feel like hooking it up to. I have the router, ORS, and plate joiner and would have really liked to have been able to enable this feature for all of them.
I just checked the product pages for the AWS supported tools and it appears this dongle or auto-start wireless unit is included.
Still waiting for word on a cordless framing nailer(that is good)…. dont really want to get in the hitachi platform. A hybrid x2 compressor would be an interesting option too. Just my wish list.
ps. 99 percent sure the aws chip comes with the tool. they are making it serviceable and upradeable acording to a couple WOC videos I have seen.

That sounds nice. Saves time too if you have replacements on hand.
I took advantage of the Makita promotion and purchased the Makita XPS01Z track saw kit. I didn’t open it yet because the weather is not permitting, but now I’m starting to wonder if should return it and hold out for the XPS02Z. Will they begin phasing out the non-AWS versions? It seems to make the most sense from a manufacturing perspective since I can’t see AWS adding that much more cost to justify manufacturing both versions. I also doubt that I will be spending $500 on a freaking vacuum unless they come out with something at a lower price point, but it would be comforting to know that I have the option. Decisions, decision on a luxury purchase.
Some new light designs would also be nice. Similar to Milwaukee’s stand light

Some discussion about how Makita implemented their AWS and how certain design decisions will likely keep these new AWS tools forward-compatible as the system gets updated. Although I kind of can’t help but lament that it can’t be retrofitted to the cordless router I got a couple months ago, their decisions make a lot of sense.
Also can’t help but drool at the X2 miter and plunge saws. Two purchases I look forward to.

Makita also just released a compact version of their die grinder. I DO want a Makita product more directly akin to a Dremel, and would have preferred something more along the lines of what Milwaukee has in their M12 line, but this would have some advantages too staying compatible with my current battery platform.

The track saw is the best tool purchase I made last year, and I made some amazing tool purchases last year lol. It was my first Makita tool and now I’m a believer in what @kornomaniac preaches.
Ls1219l up on website. 65 lb monster. Probably best suited for shop or large trim jobs.
Makita should have gone the Festool route. In addition to AWS tools have an AWS battery. Another idea is they could have an AWS adapter. Could be similar to the tool connect adapter.

Is it compatible with Dremel bits?
Jronman wrote:

not sure if it comes with it but the instructions list an 1/8 collet as an accessory.
Note if you have a festool extractor their module will work with any tool.
Jronman wrote:

Yeah, as Brad M points out, they have a 1/8” collet available. This may prove to be better for my actual needs than a Dremel-sized tool, since it can also handle 1/4” fine and using my Dremel on projects that aren’t all that small has come up more than a few times. There is an approachability that the Dremel’s small size brings when working on really little things though…
Now if only Makita could release a cordless soldering iron…brilliant idea by Milwaukee doing that. Not sure how Makita would go about doing one of their own since they seem to be stepping away from pod-style batteries. I don’t fancy the idea of buying into an additional platform just for one tool, but I’ve had SO MANY occasions where a cordless soldering iron would have been a godsend.

They should have a cord between the battery and the soldering iron. Either clip the battery to your belt or put it on a bench. It would still be cordless and would allow for a very slim and lightweight soldering iron.

It’s a short nose die grinder. It’s been out for a few years now. They are bring a brushless die grinder out this year, probably only a long nose version

I don’t know if you just ruined my day or made it. The short-nose only just appeared on Makita’s US site, so maybe they don’t think these are as worthwhile to offer here or something? Same time I LOVE the idea of picking up a brushless model…that is if they even release it here in the States.

Nothing more. But still has been repeated to me multiple times by Makita reps/managers that it should be coming 2018.

If a brushless is coming then Makita Japan is pushing remaining stock to countries that didn’t sell it yet. That’s how it works

With mid-March approaching, do you think there is hope for a couple of new OPE tools? I remember reading rumors about a brushless version of their top handle chainsaw. A better 2x18v mower would be on my personal christmas list too.

That chainsaw is out in Japan. Check www.makita.co.jp. But I’ll be some months before available in other countries I guess 🙂
Mower no change yet
Makita has the new system out where you buy the main unit either gas or x2 then buy your attachments. It seems to cover most of the OPE needs. Not sure what else they could add for the system. Maybe a power brush or tiller attachments? I wouldn’t mind a new Makita mower that looks more like the EGO. Maybe even has a steel deck option and/or a self-propeled option. I would also like to see it in x4 setup. Maybe a power mode that uses all 4 batteries for when you need more power then a low power mode that only draws from 2 batteries for more runtime.
Only downside is none of the Makita ope is sold in stores

I tried to check but decided that I will just take your word for it ^_^, I tried to download the outdoor catalog but it failed due to a script error. I could not find much on that JP site (except confirmation that Makita sucks at designing websites).
@Jronman
That multi tool system is indeed a very nice addition, can’t wait to read the reviews. As you are saying, the current Makita 36v OPE line is *very* varied, with a better-than-average option in most categories imho… Only their mower seems to be seriously lagging behind. As I am watching Dewalt, Stihl and Husqvarna releasing their 36-40v models (including self propelled variants and a dedicated mulcher), I feel like Makita may need to even the score.

Yeah Home Depot does suck for Makita ope, I’ve been into a fair few depots on my travels around the US. Here in a Australia Makita ope is everywhere. I have about 20 big tool shop within an 1 hour radius of where I live
