That’s been around for a while. Great idea… its like a Roomba, but with industrial power. The only downside is that you need to swap out the batteries. All the other systems (of which there are many) recharge themselves and need little attention apart from emptying the collection bin.
As for whats next..Hard to tell… Anything that needs power… Car tools (jacks, compressors), boat tools, bicycle tools (washers, wrenches etc). The thing is that the battery system has become so good and so flexible that it can be used way beyond just tools… It could become the centre of a whole portable system…
I’d like to see one of these with a Makita battery: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ae/en/mobi-v-15-portable-bike-pressure-washer/rp-prod34761
18×2 brushless 9 and 7 inch grinders are coming this year
Probably they’ll slip to next year according to my Makita rep. 16gauge nailer is for this year. Brushless cordless plunge saw is for this year 🙂

*drool* Makita cordless plunge saw and I suppose it will be a x2 battery.
16 gauge nailer also sounds sexy. I wonder how it will compare with Dewalt’s 16g nailer. That said, I have yet to see a tradie or a contractor rocking a Makita cordless nailer.

it must be regional/local, because NOBODY around here uses Makita, nobody carries Makita in store, any local place is either Milwaukee or DeWalt, there are a few contractors i’ve seen with Hilti, but you would find a talking dog before you found a Makita tool onsite with a tradie here.
The robovac has been floating around the internet for some time, it’s cool but not sure how popular it would be even…
It’s predominately Makita teal here in NZ unless you are a sparkie or plumber. I’m one of the odd chippies investing into Dewalt cordless tools. That said, Makita’s cordless nail guns rarely see the light of day because Paslode is a far superior choice. But I am keen to see what they do with this upcoming 16g brad nailer.
Milwaukee is a growing choice with a lot of new apprentices in NZ because Placemakers (a popular supplier) phased out brands like Dewalt and mainly replaced them with Milwawukee M18 line.
Makita ‘older’ cordless nailers sucked before 🙂
The new Pinner seems very capable. I’m hoping they’ll continue that quality to the 16 gauge
There goes my patent filing…

Do you have a part number for the plunge saw yet? Ive been looking for any information on it.
will the saw be 6 1/2 in or 7 1/4 in?
You’ll not find info yet online i’m quite sure 🙂
Making naming should call it ( in EU atleast ) something like DSP18….. . Probably DSP180.
D since it’s a battery tool. SP because thats how their corded model is called. 18 Since it’s an 18volt tool. And it being mostly likety their first design should give us a 0 at the end. DSP180 is my guess 🙂
Mostly likely base it on the brushless 6.5 DHS680. Giving it 55mm depths of cut just like their corded plunge saw.
I think Makita should really be looking at sorting out their batteries. I’ve seen cheap chinese knock off companies selling batteries that are higher capacity than what makita offer.
I’ve seen a slim CXT 2.5ah pack and I’m sure I saw a 3ah battery in a 2ah body.
And you expect that these Chinese knock off brands have the same quality cells, and with thesame amperage discharge as the more commonly used 2 or 2.5 amp cells used by most brands ?
ive been wanting a track saw. If makita comes out with a cordless one this year ill probably bite the bullet then.

I don’t see why not, AvE had a knock off milwaukee and it out performed a genuine battery.
found a 2.1 gallon x2 HEPA vac.
127 CFM and 75 decibels corded
74 CFM and 64 decibels cordless

I wouldn’t trust those batteries its not worth something burning down because the battery shorts out

Of course you wouldn’t. That’s why Makita and the other big brands get away with a 60% profit margin on what is essentially a few lithium cells spot welded together.
I’ve had enough batteries in pieces to realise there’s just as much chance as a genuine battery failing as there is a knock off.

I disagree but hey on eBay there are pretty good deals on genuine batteries.
Consumables are were the money is.
If you really think 5x Lithium Ion 18650 cells and a small circuit board are worth $100, brother, I have got some land you may be interested in!

Exactly.
Just for argument’s sake, you buy a snide battery at half the cost of a genuine that’s sold as a 5ah but turns out to be a 4ah, it’s going to cost a damn lot less than a genuine 4ah.
It’s not really an argument I can see that isn’t baseless in reality. Most knock off gear is just a replica of genuine and the Chinese are very good at it. All my batteries are genuine, would I write off copies? Not at all.
Infact I’m starting to see more and more people using copies over genuine in the field. A guy I’ve been working with the last few months uses copy makita and Milwaukee batteries and he said to me he’s very unlikely to buy genuine again.
But my original point which has been overlooked which is if third party manufacturers can offer a higher capacity (granted on paper) battery for less money, the tool companies have to start producing either a higher capacity battery at more competitive price or they’ll eventually lose out.

Depends what you consider to be a good deal. Best deal I’ve ever had on batteries was 4xBL1840B batteries with a Makpac and inlay for a twin charger at £225, but by best deal I mean slightly better than getting mugged at knifepoint. Genuine batteries are overpriced no matter what ‘deal’ you think you’re getting.

I won’t ever buy non genuine for my lithium I just don’t trust them for my older 14.4 v nicad yes but I don’t use it to much but u get what u pay for in my opinion genuine battery I would trust vs Joe smo that u have no idea where it came from or how good they put it together

I thought I had just made my up my mind on the 12″ FlexVolt – apparently not! Do you have any kind of date for this?!
Wow thats a lot of tempting new tools! Makita strikes back! 🙂
Ive been wondering if Makita is going to introduce new high-draw cells for their packs just like Metabo did with their LiHDs or Bosch with Eneracer. Kornomaniac, you must be the only person who can cast some light on this do you have any clue?
