Dremel Combo Kit Review

Dremel’s roots date back to the 1930’s when Mr. Dremel founded the Dremel company back in 1932.  In 1934 he invented the Dremel rotary tool which is similar to the pneumatic tool used by metal workers, the die grinder.  In 1993 Bosch bought the company and has been not only creating rotary tools, but they have introduced a couple new tools such as the Dremel Saw-Max and the Dremel Multi-Max, which brings us to this article.  So let’s jump into the Dremel Combo Kit Review.

Dremel Combo Kit Review Overview

Over the years Dremel has been a hot item.  They have been releasing new versions of the original rotary tool.  While they still offer a corded version, they have ventured out into a cordless version.  They have created new tools like the Saw-Max which is a small little circular saw.  They have even released their version of the oscillating tool the Dremel Multi-Max.

All of these tools are extremely helpful to the homeowner who is doing DIY projects and hobbies.

Since these have all been hot sellers, Dremel decided to create a pretty cool kit that features all these tools.  No longer do you have to buy each tool.  You can now just buy the kit and be on your way.

Dremel Combo Kit Review

Dremel offers a wide range of rotary tools.  Dremel included one of their top rotary tools in this kit, the Dremel 3000.  This is an upgraded version of tools with some pretty cool features, such as replaceable motor brushes.

You can control the tool uses a slide switch on the back of the tool.  You can turn it on or off using this switch, along with controlling the speed.  The tool features a variable speed of 5,000 to 32,000 rpm.

While you still need a wrench to loosen the collet, you can actually use the nose cap for this operation, which is pretty cool.  There is a spindle lock located towards the front of the tool, but it didn’t get in the way when we were using the tool.

The rotary tool has a 6′ power cord.  As you can see, they beefed up the cord where it connects to the tool since this is where a lot of flex happens.

We did a little sanding and some grinding with the tool, plus sharpened a chisel.  Overall this is a great rotary tool.  I have used other, less expensive tools over the years, but I keep coming back to the Dremel.  While I wish it wasn’t as wide around the grip part, it’s smooth and very powerful.

Dremel also included the Saw-Max SM20 with one wood blade and two metal blades.  Dremel does offer a better model, the model US40.  The SM20 features a 6 Amp motor that spins the blade at 17,000 rpm’s.

The saw is extremely versatile as you can make cuts, but you can also make flush cuts.

On the top of the saw, there is a blade lock which you will use anytime you want to change the blade.

You will have to use the included hex wrench to change a blade.

One great feature of this saw is you can adjust the depth of cut by using the guide on the side of the saw.  You can cut up to 3/4″.

On the bottom of the tool, there is a paddle switch with a safety feature.

Dremel designed this with a 7′ power cord and reinforced it where the cord meets the tool.

Looking at the saw, you wouldn’t expect much, but this saw does make quick work out of cuts.  This is a great saw for a variety of projects.  We ended up getting a lot of use out of it.  I am working on my attic and we just installed spray foam.  I installed a bunch of plywood over the floor and this tool was great for making quick cuts.  There are a bunch of tight spaces and this is where the saw really shined.

Dremel has a couple of different models of oscillating tools.  The one they included in this kit is the MM30.  The tool features a 3.3 Amp motor.

The oscillating tool can be turned on/off from the top of the tool.  There is a blue slide switch to control the operation of the tool.

While the handle is a little wide, it’s pretty easy to grip and the rubber helps with controlling this tool.

On the back of the tool, there is a variable speed dial.  You can adjust the dial from 1-10 which is equivalent to 10,000-23,000 OPM.

To change a blade, you do need a wrench or tool.  Dremel found a very creative way to store the wrench on the tool so you never lose it.  There is a quick release button and you can slide the wrench out and make the change.

One great feature of this tool is you can use your common oscillating blades, so no need to find specialty blades.

The oscillating tool comes with a 7′ cord.

While it’s not the best oscillating tool we have ever tested, for the size and price, this is extremely competitive.  There isn’t a ton of vibrations and it is perfect for a wide range of projects.

Dremel Combo Kit Review Value

The kit retails for about $230 on The Home Depot website.  Overall I think this is a great value.  Dremel is a quality name that has been producing these tools for a number of years, so they are not new to this market.  With the backing of Bosch and the quality that company puts into their tools, this is a great value.

Dremel Combo Kit Review Final Thoughts

Anyone looking to get into the Dremel line, I would go with this kit.  All three tools are solid and will make your life much easier when performing tasks around the house.  While I love all the tools, I really love the Saw-Max.  All three of these tools offer versatility you can’t get anywhere else for a price tag of $230.  Dremel is a quality product and these 3 tools show why people love the Dremel tools.
