Bosch GSA18V-125 Reciprocating Saw Review

Bosch is one of the top professional power tool companies around.  They are known for producing quality power tools such as their rotary hammers.  While Bosch isn’t always first to market, you can be assured that when they do bring something to market, it’s perfected and is made to last a lifetime.  So when we heard about the new cordless Bosch Reciprocating saw coupled with their new Core Battery, we had to try it out.  So let’s jump into our Bosch GSA18V-125 Reciprocating Saw Review.

Bosch  Reciprocating Saw Review – Overview

When looking at this saw, the first thing you will notice is the unusual design.  While Bosch isn’t the first to have this design, it is definitely a separation from the normal longer reciprocating saw, such as the Milwaukee Sawzall.

Some users might be taken back and a little hesitant at first especially if you are familiar with the traditional design, I know I was.  However, after you use the Bosch 18V saw, you will be wondering why more manufacturers aren’t using this style of design.

Bosch  Reciprocating Saw Review – Features

When Bosch set out to design a new reciprocating saw, they didn’t want to just create another saw, they wanted to pack in a quality motor and features so a user can tackle any job.

Bosch didn’t waste any time and started with a quality brushless motor to provide increased run time and a longer life for the tool.

Then Bosch wrapped the internal parts with a tough outer shell that is only 19″ in length with a weight of 7.7 lbs (without battery).

On top of the tool sits a dial where a user can adjust the orbital settings from 0-1-2.

Staying on top of the tool you will notice a variable speed dial that is within reach of your thumb so you can match the speed of the saw to your work.

The front not only has two LED lights to help provide light, but also a shoe that pivots and is adjustable.

The tool free blade change is one of the best we have seen.  Even with gloves on you can change the blade.  Now it doesn’t offer a spring to eject the hot blade, but you can be assured once you insert the blade, it will stay there even under extreme conditions.  So sit back and enjoy your 0-2,500 SPM with a 1.25″ stroke length.

For those of you who like to hang their tools up when not in use, you will be happy to know there is an integrated hanging hook.

Bosch Core Battery

The saw runs on the Bosch 18V platform.  However here is the cool thing about the 18V platform.  Bosch has a new battery to market called the Core.  The Core isn’t just a rebranded 18V battery.  Without going into too much detail, the new Bosch core battery has bigger cells, which means it can hold more energy.  More energy means more run-time and more work.  There aren’t many companies using these new battery cells, but Bosch happens to be one of the few.

There is a lot to love about this new battery such as more power, a smaller size, backward capability with all 18V Bosch tools and more.  Instead of me telling you about it all, check out Bosch’s page regarding the Core Battery Technology.

Bosch  Reciprocating Saw Review – Performance

Since this is designed for the professional, you would expect it to be a top performer.  Well, this saw won’t disappoint.  The variable speed trigger is responsive and very easy to control.

Not only is the saw powerful, but it appears the built in counter balance system does a great job at reducing vibration.

Ripping through wood and metal is effortless and easy to control.  The one item I noticed with this saw is I never felt like I was fighting the tool.  I always felt like I was in control, no matter what speed I was in.

Bosch GSA18V-125 Reciprocating Saw Review – Final Thoughts

The $299 is a hefty price tag and that is the bare tool.  While the saw performs, it is still an expensive investment compared to its competitors.

If you are looking for a demolition tool, Bosch is a company you should consider.  If you are looking for a cordless reciprocating saw, then the GSA18V-125 should be a high consideration.  The saw has a great design, packed with features and performs at the top of its class.  This tool has great run time which is due to the design and the core battery technology.
