When it comes to concrete, Hilti is one of the top dogs.  While Hilti offers a wide range of tools and products, their bread and butter is the stop solution for concrete.  Not only do they make some of the best concrete tools on the market, but when it comes to anchors and fasteners, well who else can really compete on their scale?  At WOC we saw the new Hilti TE 6-A36 cordless rotary hammer.  We had a chance to use one of their older versions and it impressed the heck out of us.  I still have a couple of buddies who are in the trades and work on skyscrapers in downtown Chicago.  When I got this tool, I texted them a picture.  Each one said the same thing, I bet it kicks butt.  They are still using an older generation and love it.  They have told me it makes their job so much easier.  One guy is a sprinkler fitter and is hanging all day.  He uses the older version along with a dust collection system and it rocks.  Another labor told me that he has to chisel up over pours of concrete for flooring and the same thing, the TE 6-A36 rocks.

Well as you guessed this is new to Hilti, well not this line, but this is their fourth generation.  You may ask why do they need another generation when they are the market leader?  Easy, they own concrete and if you can make something better, why not?  So what is different from the previous generation?  Bottomline, it’s a little lighter, little more compact and they increased the overall performance.

These types of tools are made to be workhorses, any concrete tool needs to be tough because concrete is tough.  So when Hilti designed this, they designed it with Active Vibration reduction to help reduce user fatigue.  If you look at the picture, you will notice a long black line that goes down the tool.  This is just one system that helps reduce vibrations.  There is a predominant dial on the side that is easy to change even with gloves.  There are three settings, drill, chip and drill hammer.

Hilti TE 6-A36Even though this is compact in design, it packs a powerful punch.  This delivers 1.8 ft-lbs of impact energy and 1050 rpm.  Enough power and speed to get even the most demanding jobs done efficiently.

While this is good for light chiseling, this really shines for people setting fasteners, anchors or both.  Couple this along with the Hilti TE DRS-6-A (which we will get into in another article) and this system will outperform and make your life easier.  As you probably know this is powered by their 36V line of batteries.  With this line, you can get two different types of batteries.  The 5.2 Ah battery which is bigger and heavier, but will increase your work time or you can go with a slimmer smaller 2.6Ah battery.

I am not here to be a sales rep because I am not.  Hilti is a brand that has been around for a long time.  They don’t just make tools, they make tools for demanding jobs.  Talk with any serious contractor who works in tough environments, big jobs and jobs that require precision and they will even say how good Hilti products are.  Well, those are just my two cents, but if you are getting into concrete work, I would take a serious look at Hilti as your tool line.

  1. I just toasted my friend’s Ryobi P221 and they don’t sell it in my country. But they do sell this hiliti. Do you think it’s a viable replacement?
