My mini Wera screwdriver review

BMack37Member since Sep 2015

I really like that the Wera(and Wiha) have the thumb wheel, the Felo does not…I can push on the back to apply force to allow it to ratchet but the thumb wheel would make it even easier. i actually already have two bit ratchets, I have a cheap Neiko which is just super thin for really tight areas. Link to that: http://www.amazon.com/03044A-4-Drive-Mini-size-Ratcheting-Screwdriver/dp/B000XYOUS6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452490952&sr=8-1&keywords=neiko+ratchet

I have that same Wera mini bit ratchet, that thing is awesome,I also have a US made craftsman one too that isnt horrible. The Neiko one you posted is similar to the craftsman one,ill try and post some pics of the two later.

for pics on mobile get the photobucket app on your phone, then you can select all the pics and it gives you one link to post 🙂   makes it way easier.

Man, that Wera is sexyAF! I wish it had the angled handle like the Felo but man that thumb wheel and the finishing on that…straight up tool p0rn

FazzmanMember since Apr 2014

Yeah, angled would be nice but its so little it doesnt matter. These are awesome for getting into thompson linear bearing rails and such.

How has the lazer etching held up on the tips of your guys screwdrivers? Does it eventually wear off or does it stay on. This is what my ph2 screwdriver looks like after some use. Some of the gold coating has worn off but it still fits great so far.

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Thanks for posting pic Nicholas! You’ve been putting that Bebe to use!

BMack37Member since Sep 2015

Mine has been holding up but I mostly split time between the Weras and Felos.

JimboS1iceMember since Sep 2015

I’m assuming it depends on the depth of the etching…

What’s up gents! I posted about needing help with my screwdriver needs on another thread so I figured I would stick to the one that is on topic.  You guys highly recommend the laser tips.  How does the yellow set hold up? Which ones would be better for general use?

so far i love my laser tips on the weras. They have been holding up great with occasional use so far. I put in a kitchen sink last week and used a slotted driver for turning all of the clips to clamp the sink down. The screwdriver never slipped on 12 clamps.

The  chisel driver set does not have the laser tips. Im sure they will hold up great. The set I bought is great for general use if not using them as chisel drivers.

These would be a great set for the price. http://www.kctoolco.com/wera-334-6-slotted-phillips-screwdriver-set-rack-p/wr105650.htmI dont believe they have the hex bolsters though. Not needed but nice to have just because.

The wera’s grip is very subjective. I do prefer the grip on my wiha’s from a comfort standpoint but the odd shape of the wera’s allow for great grip and torque. I havent tried any felos but have hear nothing but good things. Like I said before if I hadnt gotten my wera’s I would have purchased that large felo set that kctoolco has on sale for today only.

Thanks Rich. I really appreciate the help. Valentines Day is coming up so I’m going to add them to my wish list!Lol

They are, even if you have big hands they work pretty well.  the Wiha one above is ESD safe too which is nice for messing with electronics and such.

That Wiha kit was on sale from KC for $60, heard they plan on doing it again because it sold well. Think their price on eBay is cheaper than Amazon.

Yeah, I think it was like Thursday and Saturday. I have to imagine they’ll do it again this month, even if they don’t theyre still $75 on KC Tool everyday.

It’s not a bad deal at all imo. I’m trying hard not to buy the Wiha set, also want this set: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002QV0FHO

Anyone ever use or heard comments about the DeWalt ratchet kit?

Here’s a pic

I know TIA did a video on it just wanted to hear some feedback from the crew

JimboS1iceMember since Sep 2015

Heard that they are pretty decent ratchets, just heavy

BMack37Member since Sep 2015

It’s just rebranded Stanley stuff. The problem is Stanley seems to have different grades of quality and no real way to tell through pictures at least. You might have something comparable to check out at Lowe’s or Walmart. Just look at the ratchets really good and if you see they’re exactly the same, then you know what you’re getting.

I’d say as an occasional use kit and not using it for breaking bolts, you’d be fine. I’d worry about the sockets more than the ratchets for breakage.

By the way, I learned something new about the Wiha and Wera ratchets, don’t think it makes much of a difference but they’re not made in Germany/Czech Republic, but Taiwan. Felo appears to be the only of the big three that makes their ratchet in Germany. Pretty disappointing how they aren’t more upfront about it.

I don’t see the issue with where things are made. Each product is built to the manufacturers specs nothing more nothing less. If the product is sub par the and the company wanted a better built product they would design it and sub it out but they don’t. If the quality is there what does it matter where it is made?

Metals that are used in Chinese and some other Asian countries, but especially China are a lower quality steel than what you get in the US.

^^^ true, having worked for shops who sold out to the Chinese,I can tell you by personal experience that the Chinese dont have a clue when it comes to quality, most Chinese steels, and alloys arent even made to proper spec most of the time.   Taiwan is an exception in that vicinity of the world, their products are actually pretty decent.

Whose fault is that? The Chinese or the company who is having the Chinese make their product?

There are plenty of quality products made in china. Ultimately it is up to the company, Milwaukee, Irwin, Bosch, whoever that has their product built to the way they see fit. There are plenty of products built in the USA that are pure garbage as well. To rule out a product just because it is made in china is silly (not saying that happened here but does). Some of the highest priced production pool cues are made in China. It comes down to how a company decides what is acceptable for their product.

. Awesome kit bro I have the 204pc set I beleieve, these have been use and abused at the shop I haven’t used any of my snap on or Matco tools in awhile I’ve owned them for about almost 2yrs and none have failed yet so if your looking at a kit like this for the house this is perfect I’m looking at getting one of the smaller kits to keep in wife’s car and my truck, the only cons I can find like Jimbo said they’re a bit heavy and bulky but for 80% of what I’ve used them for they’ve been great!

Thanks big mike. I can’t help it. For now I’m a DeWalt fan boy lol

While I agree that most Chinese metal is crap, I’ve seen tons of examples, there are some exceptions where the Chinese are able to source quality steel…but let’s not forget that the Wiha/Wera ratchets are made in Taiwan, which is normally produces some very good tools. My issue is that neither are being upfront about where they’re being produced.

If it’s sold in the USA there’s probably some lie to it. You could apply this to all products
