What’s the latest tool you purchased?

I couldn’t find a topic like this and I see this subject turn up on a lot of forums. TIA should have it too!

Not sure where to post this as tools can be handtools, powertools or accessories…

If there is such a topic already, please discard this one 🙂

My latest purchase, is a hand sanding block from Mirka. Known For their amazing Deros orbital sander.

I have a carbide sanding block, but I don’t like it that much. Due to the shape it frequently slips out of my hand. The Mirka seems a lot more ergonomic. Not cheap though, but hey, you can even attach it to a vac 😀

Oh and it’s yellow!!!

It’s a 70x125mm sanding block with velcro backing. Also got me a couple of boxes of their Abranet sanding pads. It’s not widely available but bought it at eBay from a guy in Germany. Just waiting for him to ship it.

Never seen these. This could definitely com in handy in my latest project.

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

I never heard of Mirka before until a while ago when I read about their new orbital sander. They seem to be a welknown brand in automotive… with pneumatic sanders and electrical sanders which require a power converter.

Now they have some models that no longer needs the convertor and have a brushless motor. It’s their Deros line of sanders. I’ve got one on my wishlist. It’s one supercool sander everybody is raving about.

Looks like this line of sanders will hit the States next month…. http://www.mirka.com/en-US/us/

Their hand blocks come in different sizes. I only got the small one though.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

They are selling a Mirka sander at my local Woodcraft in a yellow sustainer and I hear they are really really really good sanders but alas….no purchase. They also have a Mirka DC unit for sale too!

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Who makes the better sander Festool or Mirka?

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Festool comes out with a new one (or is it out already?) with a model that is similar to the Mirka.

All I know is that I will be buying a Mirka sometime next year. Unless DeWALT steps in…. (wishful thinking)

The DC units…well, they are smaller and lighter, but you have to drag a power convertor with it. Too much of a hassle I think.

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

I purchased a drywall lift – see new topic, just opened one.

and also purchased 15x storage totes from HDX which look really really sturdy

I’m not sure DR, I’ve got a Rotex RO90 and ES125 sander. While I’ve been in the shop l, Samantha has been upstairs with my Midi and ES125 grinding through the big bedroom pine knotty boards. I’ve never used the Mirka but supposedly they are the best. My two Festools are hands down and ten yards ahead of that, the best I’ve ever used and the DC is unbeatable. I might try the Mirka out next time I go down to Woodcraft but I can’t see buying another sander.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

As far as my newest tool purchase it’d have to be the DCD985 hammer drill and the DCS391 circular saw I bought last month. So far I’m really happy with my purchase and I added a 4.0 battery to the kit.

frankiegarcia19Member since Jan 2014

BigMikez, she told me the other day she was gonna take it into the kitchen, lol i had to draw the like tho..

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

looks like that im not the only one with the radio problem. my PB180 is in the bathroom, my wife uses it to get dressed etc or as well as cooking and cleaning. i might need to buy a 2nd radio lol. i just used it once since i bought it

chadlanthierMember since Mar 2013

I need one of the dewalt Bluetooth speakers.

comp56Member since Sep 2014

I got more than 1 Milwaukee radio….does that tell ya anything…….

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

just when you can charge your phone at the radio while using Bluetooth – I can imagine it will suck up your battery quick 😛

comp56Member since Sep 2014

I don’t have bluetooth on either radio I just listen to local stations…….as long as there is some kind of background noise I’m good…..

are these strictly orbital or can these be locked to spin also?

This looks like something I just saw

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

I’m wondering if the tech is the same Regopit. They used the Fein design Supercut for the basis of the Vecturo. Makes sense to base it on a high quality design.

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Funny. I didn’t know about the Festool one. Wouldn’t want it anyway. Wrong color 😉

Their latest ETC EC150/3 (and /5) orbital sanders look a lot like the Deros.

Can clearly see what they used as a basis.

@comp56. I believe it’s orbital only…

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Wow I’d like to respon intelligently to that but I guess it’s like telling a drunk dude to stop peeing on the street. Sometimes you just have to let the dog wag his tail…;)

Just kidding. I happen to like my new yellow tools. They’re kind of like a mentally challenged cousin. Sure he breaks a couple of things and picks his nose in public and then eats it….but he’s family 😀

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

I know I’m always bitching on Festool, but in reality I do like their tools. Don’t own any of it. I’m too afraid once I get one I want everything due to their system. But the color thing is honest. I like my yellow. It’s the sunshine in my life 😉

DR99Member since Nov 2012

The 3 big tools I would like from festool is the Kapex, TS55req tracksaw and one of their dust collectors. Their drills and drivers don’t interest me as much not saying they are not great but I don’t think their is a big of a bonus over other brands. Plus centrotec bits are not cheap

chadlanthierMember since Mar 2013

Chris u r such a snob. Your family dont tell u, but u r actually the cousin u r talking about.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

I’ve got all of those DR, as far as the drills…I can’t justify the expenditure other than to say (and I do have the ) the real advantage of the centrioles is that the large portion of the bit or drill shaft is ensconced in the chuck allowing the bit to drive very straight. The power is amazing in my T15+3 and my CXS is the cats smelly balloon knot. The bits are a$s expensive but the quality is really amazing. I will say the my Dewalt is freakin a powerhouse and it is the brushed models but I love it. My T15+3 is brushless and has the different right angle attachments so it’s quite the useful tool. But then again so is my B&D Autosense. I frikin love using that in the Kreg jig.

Mr Yellow….what can I say. I wouldn’t touch that yellow brand for the life of me! Now….? Planer….DW745….DCD985….20v saw….!!!!!!!

Chad…..I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to insult you. I read your post and was like “that poor kid probably wears a helmet full time….wow….I AM insensitive” you just keep picking and eating young man….. Yukka Yukka Yukka! ;). Just kidding 😉

You are just getting started I can feel it..
ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Well to be honest KWC, I really do like what I have. I wouldn’t mind adding a new stand for my Kapex and relocating the Ryobi to the DW745

DR99Member since Nov 2012

I have seen the CXS in person I do like how small it is. Festool punches you in the gut with the prices though. If you can get the refurbished tool deals when they have them that is the way to go. It just never seems to jive when I have extra cash 🙂

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Yeah I paid $177 for the set. It includes the Jacobs, Centrotec and Eccentric chucks plus the batteries and charger in the systainer. Honestly, it’s the coolest drill out there. Not brushless though and no fuel gauge. Crazy amount of torque for such a little guy. If you could swing it, I’d get it. The rest of the drills…..meh. I love mine but truthfully, the CXS does all the stuff my T15 does just a lot less power.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

That new 4 speed drill they sell in Europe looks pretty awesome. Hilti has a new bad ass 18v drill coming out soon 4 speeds and tons of torque. I bet for 2015 the original Milwaukee Fuel drills and impact will see a performance update though. The competition has better specs than the Milwaukee drills and impacts out now.

comp56Member since Sep 2014

my m12 or m18 fuel line of hammer drill and impacts are enough for this old goat to handle……….be awhile before I would even think about upgrading those….. they are probably twice the tools I need as it is…..

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

I cannot disagree with Comp. I really love my blue and green guns but I don’t think I’ll get the quad drive drill when it comes out. Really good product from what I’ve read and if it’s anything like my T15 or CXS it’s going to be a powerhouse but other than upgrading my packs to 4.2 at some point this will be it in the drill department. My Dewalt is crazy powerful and although heavy, super comfortable for heavy drilling. I will say I can’t wait to get the IDH fro. Bosch! I got to handle the non wireless one at Lowes and it is really a sweet machine!

regopitMember since Feb 2013

I like the festool 15+3 but I’ll wait for Milwaukee 12v+3 to come to the US

AnonymousMember since Jan 2014

My latest purchase is a blue point 3/8’s drive ratchet used off ebay.  I really want a set of mac combination wrenchs but those puppies ain’t cheap.

I’d really like to try that out especially with the standard bits. My CXS is a-okay for me though!

What particular Mac set are you looking for?

cjanderson_90Member since Dec 2014

My latest purchase was some snap on wrench holders. I didnt know they made a reverse tooth one so I got it and it saves a bunch of room in the drawer. Very cool purchase

No pics?

chadlanthierMember since Mar 2013

I love dewalt, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t want to get my hands on some festool tools. Especially the carvex and the planer. I have the domino and mft3 table and I’m impressed at the quality.

Northern RebelMember since May 2014

Some Bosch jigsaw blades made to cut laminate flooring, worked awesome.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Those are nice wrenches and $230 is actually cheaper than I expected them to be.

If I needed a set right now I’d grab those in a heartbeat.

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

This time off work is bad for my wallet…

Just bought 4 of these Winbags. Should be really helpful when installing door/windowframes.

Shims do work, but anyone who’ve done this kind of job know how frustrating it can be to hold the frame in place. Especially when you have to readjust them and fasten them in concrete or the likes..

Some DeWALT stuff. From Germany (eBay) because they don’t sell the cut-out tool yet in the Netherlands. Think this month or the next. Will launch together with the drywallgun.
Got the bare tool though as I will add it to the drywall screwdriver so I don’t need extra batteries for it.

and the DWH050 vacuum thingy. Still need the DWV902M, but later…

Seller also got the DCR002 bluetooth adapter which isn’t available here yet either. Don’t want to keep my phone attached to the radio all the time so this is a no brainer.

And recently I bought a new level. The Stabila R300 in 200cm. I really like it. So sturdy and well build and easy to read.
So I got myself the 61cm, 81cm and 122cm now as well. I like the DeWALTs, but will buy them if I can spare the money (cause buying them from overseas/no warranty) or if they will become available in Europe.

Sorry guys heres a picture of the snap on (or rather blue point, they made no mention of this in my purchase) wrench holders. Freed up a lot of space so now this drawer looks empty

I hope they stored it correctly too! A buddy of mine got his dads click type torque and it was stored at 90lbs for a few years. He snapped a head bolt off when using it so check that out

what is the correct way to store a torque wrench?

It should say in the manual. They say the recommended ft/lbs or in/lbs to store it at after use

NERemodelingMember since Aug 2014

just a few smalls,
