My tools / ToughSystem Racking

Ok, this is not my entire set since most of it sits inside a van. I rather don’t take it all out for a picture.
Maybe sometime when I have redone the inside of the van.

In the meantime, here’s my new D55155 air compressor. I bolted some wheels onto the frame since I don’t want to carry this thing around too much. In the works is a retractable handle, similar to some of DeWalt’s wheeled compressors.
Why? Because DeWalt air compressors are discontinued in the EU and there weren’t any with wheels. Got lucky to got this one new from a DeWalt Center in my country. Pretty much the last one available.

Very nice! That compressor reminds me of a Battle-Bot!

framerMember since Jan 2011

i bought one of those compressors when they first came out, and it still runs good to this day…..although it could benefit from a paint job. 😀

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Well then, let it have a shiny new yellow coating 🙂

It’s actually pretty easy to disassemble to got the bare tank/frame to paint. You only need to cover up the mounting holes  so paint won’t hit the female threads.

Then get yourself the labelkit from DeWalt service. It has all the stickers in one kit. Will look brand spanking new.

After all, it’s a DeWalt, so you gotta treat it well 😀

Thanks!

It won’t destroy any battle-bot, but attach a nailer and it’s still deadly ;D

Very nice! What’s the black can in the first picture?

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Thanks! It’s a water/pressure tank that you use with wall saws or with diamond drilling equipment. That is, if no water connection is available (or too far away)

DeWalt has a whole range of diamond drilling equipment.

Or you can use it to water the plants in the backyard ;D

kanxrusMember since Jan 2009

I was unaware DEWALT made such a thing. It even looks pretty cool too!

framerMember since Jan 2011

is that a removeable chuck i see for the hammer drill?

and what diamond tools does dewalt offer over there?

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

DEWALTDUDE wrote:

And it’s one of the better ones available. There are a lot of plastic models, but the DeWalt is metal, has a pressure valve and pressure gauge. The modelnumber is D215824.

Yep. The chuck is removeable. It came with 2. An SDS+ chuck and a regular chuck for bits and stuff.

It’s a pretty nice line of diamond tools.

The D21853K diamond drill (there are 3 versions)

Or the D21585

Vacuum pump for drilling stand

Drilling stand (3 models)

[External image (images.toolstop.co.uk), not copied]

And a bunch of accessories for the above, like clamps or anchors

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

My weekly yellow fix ;D

Came in today. About time I got myself a decent pair of workstands.
Didn’t know the holes for adding a 2×4 are pre-drilled. Nice one!

I can’t decide what I appreciate more – your photo’s, or your tools!?

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

And that comes from someone who calls himself DEWALTDUDE ;D

Thanks! The pictures are shot with my iPhone 4. Works pretty well as I’m no expert photographer.

Gatorb8881393434512Member since Jun 2010

You’re not using photoshop or something to bring out the yellow?

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Ah true. I do that on the iPhone as well. There’s a nice app for that (ColorSplash)

I can do it with Photoshop but on the iPhone is much easier with great result.

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Came in today. The hose from Germany, the nailer from the UK.
Although I don’t think I will use the nailer a lot. Couldn’t resist as it was fairly cheap (discontinued tool).

I am currently redoing the inside of one of our company vans.
I’m halfway there. Already did the sides, doors, raised floor and divider.
Almost finished the part that holds my DW744 tablesaw. Thinking of adding an aluminum rail to hold the sawblades. I know you can store them on the saw, but I don’t like them to grind over eachother like that.

Also will be finishing up the back in the coming weeks I hope. This is the last week of work before the 3-week summer holiday. So 3 weeks to spent inside the van instead of outside 😉
Will be adding a custom build Toughsystem system. Ordered in several of the new cases.
Pics will follow when done.

that looks really nicely done.

Is your van really yellow!?

Gatorb8881393434512Member since Jun 2010

When I first saw a post by Mr. Yellow I thought it was a witty reference to the movie Resevior Dogs… Now I think that Mr. Yellow is his real name.

Yep. It’s just a coincidence though. Back in the day we used to have orange vans and a truck.

Then in 2003 we bought 2 new ones and had the others repainted. They changed the color to yellow. That was before things went all DeWALT 😉

Not my choice though. I opted for black.

Here’s the current update of my van rebuild.

[External image (f.cl.ly), not copied]

Received some aerosol racks a day or two ago. I’ve seen many, tried some but these are the best I could find. Made in the USA. In the back is my new DWS780.

[External image (f.cl.ly), not copied]

The other side. This is where I will mount aluminum rails. I drilled a lot of holes for the height adjustment of the ToughSystem brackets that go onto the rails. I can’t wait till the last parts come in so I can finally organize my cases. They are all over the place everytime. Edit. the parts came in today so I can start finishing the racks.

[External image (f.cl.ly), not copied]

And the side. Now with airvents on the left so the pressure when shutting the sliding door can escape through there. Otherwise the pressure has nowhere to go and the door just won’t lock in place.

kjonesMember since Oct 2010

That is a killer set up!  Amazing!

MadtecMember since Jun 2010

Sweet setup man

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Thanks guys! Nice to hear.

I finished mounting the rails and ran into a (luxury) problem. I am short on Toughsystem cases and brackets.

Here a (blurry) pic when I just finished the rails earlier today.

[External image (f.cl.ly), not copied]

deedub35Member since Mar 2010

Neat.  So there will be brackets attached to the rails and the cases slide into the brackets?  I assume that the brackets are adjustable to accommodate the different heights of the cases and there will be ultimately 3 banks of cases.  That’s a lot of cases!  Will look like a bank’s safety deposit vault.

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Yes, the brackets (from DeWALT) will go onto these rails and the cases slide onto the brackets.

Similar to the Toughsystem trolley.

I drilled holes on the back of the rails with 25mm between every hole. This is for the height adjustment.

The brackets have a little pin inside which slide into the drilled hole. This is for easy height adjustment. Then you tighten the bolt on the bracket. Yep, 3 banks of cases. Quite some cases, but I have a lot of stuff to carry around.

deshiMember since Jul 2011

That’s a brilliant set up there mate. I really wish some of the UK/EU stuff would make it over here.

framerMember since Jan 2011

what kind of van is that?

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Thanks Deshi. Same here. I wish we had some of the US stuff here.

This is the current status. I ordered some more cases but will have to wait till next week untill I get them.

Then I can finish the rack and sort everything.

[External image (cl.ly), not copied]

It works great and can really recommend it. Even for home or shop use. Put some rails up on the wall and mount some brackets. They hold up well 🙂

deedub35Member since Mar 2010

Wow. Awesome.

kjonesMember since Oct 2010

That is freaking awesome!  Great job!

kanxrusMember since Jan 2009

If your willing to put that much effort in to the organization of your tools, I can imagine the work you do with those tools is pure immaculateness!

Nicely done, I’m very jealous!

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Thanks for the nice comments!

I’m really happy with the result. I’ll add some more pics when all is done.

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Today they delivered the remaining cases and I just finished my “Toughrack”.

This is sick.  I am in awe.  Looks great.

Gatorb8881393434512Member since Jun 2010

As a rep for Dewalt, I feel like I need a truck like this!

dano_ukMember since Dec 2011

wow

now that is amazing!!

as soon as i see the tough system i had that idea, you really have inspired me now to do this. just got to try and warrant the cost now.

how are you finding the cases? i want to move all my routers ect into case but my only consern is the lack of inserts in the cases. does anyone know if dewalt will be bringing out inserts?

dan.

(p.s check out my other post for items for sale)

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Thanks for the nice comments! This coming wednesday DeWALT will pay a visit. They are also gonna take pictures of my “toughrack”.

@ Dano

They are great. Really, they are very strong and are very well build. I’ve literally jumped on them to test it out.

Not a single cracking noise or such. I really like the seal around the lid which keeps dust and water away from the tools. Also the system with the brackets is great. At first I was skeptical if they would hold up well due to the forces on them while driving. Especially on bumpy roads and fast braking/cornering. I’ve checked it multiple times, but they hold up very well.

As for inserts. I’ve got the premium XR 18v XRP hammerdrill which came in a toughcase. It had a foam inlay, which is nice, but I removed it to make room for more accessories. Some 18v XR combokits come in a toughcase with plastic inlay which is really nice. So I think DeWALT will eventually come up with more inserts.

dano_ukMember since Dec 2011

How did you get on with dewalt today?

where abouts are you based? i would love to see this racking

ive been justifying the price to myself, when you think about it its not that bad compared to getting a racking system by sortimo or similar.

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

It was a nice visit. Learned some more about the company.
The end user specialist had a really nice van too. Not so much for the racking as his interior suits a different purpose, but the van was fully equiped with all the latest DeWALT tools. He demonstrated the new DW089k crossline laser. They also took pictures of my van and the rack.
All in all it was really nice to meet them and because I was the 1st to make use of the Toughsystem in a van, DeWALT / StanleyBlack&Decker gave me these tools and a lot of goodies.

dano_ukMember since Dec 2011

whats in the big box? is it the pole for the laser?

your gonna have to buy another tough case for your new bits now lol

i would love to see other examples of what others have done, i wonder if they would now bring out a system for vans now!

i was in d&m tools today looking at the cases they really are tough! just trying to work out how many i need now.

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Yeah, it’s the telescopic pole DE0882 for the laser. Very nice improvement over the older model

Well, actually I had 1 empty case already reserved for the DCF885 Impact driver as it was on top of my wishlist. So that’s no problem 😉

The laser will stay in the case it came in as it fits perfectly and putting it in a toughcase without any insert would mean it would bounce around while driving. Not recommended. Maybe if I could make a foam insert for it…

A system is in the works actually. I think both for vans and for wall mounting.

Maybe next year we will see something. This year was the initial launch and now they can build upon the system. I am extremely happy with it. Even though it’s quite an investment if you make the change at once like I did. You could always do it in steps ofcourse.

If you are gonna build a system, keep us informed about the progress. I’d love to see how others put it to use.

Russ1393434539Member since Nov 2011

At this time I only own one Dewalt tool, but this tool is very handy and I bought this item at my local Home Depot.  I Dewalt DW20646  Impact Ready Magnetic Bit Holder.  I took several pictures of them, but please bare with me as I am still somewhat new to posting pictures in a forum setting.  In fact this would be the first time I would post a picture on  forum, so I am still not sure how exactly to do that.  I’ll learn soon, but for now it will have to wait until I learn.

anadeviMember since Nov 2011

I would like the DE0882 laser pole but Dewalt does not offer that here. Nor does Stanley.

Seems like a gap in the line. I recently bought a Bosch telescoping laser pole but would have got the Dewalt had it been available.

I really like your tool rack setup, but am I the only one that quickly noticed the GOJOW pic in the background?  It seems you have good taste in more than just tools.  ;D ;D

It’s not an uncommon accessory. Even Stanley offers one here in EU.

Wonder why DeWALT doesn’t offer this in the US. I’m sure you could get it from eBay, but with shipping and taxes it might be a bit too much.

@ Steve1616. A DeWALT powertool in one hand, a beautiful girl in the other ;D
