Well I am going to have big things coming up, im buying a BIG project. Hopefully Friday going to do the deal on a 1999 Dodge ram 1500HD, Has extended cab, 4×4 5.2 V8(for pulling fords and z71s) Its and SLT Laramie so had the bells and whistles for that year like cassete tape hahaha. It has 179000 and runs and drives like a top!!! The guy was asking 4650, went down to 3500 and i got him down to 3000 with the tool box. NO RUST needs a new a/c condenser, hardly any dings or sratches, no dents, has new brakes. The dash is cracked,(finding one that is not in the 2nd gen dodges is like finding a needle in a haystack….really it is. Well enough of this talking and here it is: http://daytona.craigslist.org/cto/4133508420.html
Now for the mods list: (when funds are efficient)
Flowmasters(true duals sounds like complete shit imo)
afe intake
chip
bedliner
37in superswampers
bushwackers
custom bumper(im going to weld!!)
winch
custom tool organizer of some sort
beef up suspension but not jack it up, it has a 1.5 in factory lift, it looks very good, with bigger tires it will look fantastic
nerf bars
new sound system
gooseneck
new seats
undercoat the whole thing
if i do all that i may not be a member any more, i would have to sell my computer to pay for it all hahaha tell me what you think, seems like most people on here likes milwaukee and drives dodges, the way it should be
I traded my Dodge in. I had 115,000 on it and needed something newer for the frequent long drives.
I bought a white 2014 1500 crew cab with the Hemi. My 09 was an SLT, but I bought the Express this time. It’s not quite as fancy inside, but I like the front fold down bench seat.
Go with a spray in liner. They threw it in at the dealership, but I’d made up my mind that I was going to do it myself. If you do it yourself, but the gun and do it right, don’t try doing it with rattle cans.
Looks good imo. Is 180,000 miles a lot? What’s the bluebook? My brother has one like that. Only thing he says it sucks gas.
I had a 97 with the 5.9 (360) in it. Son of a bitch got 12 mpg on its best day. The 5.2 (318) did a little better though.
12mpg. That could add up.
Chase, you better not put all your money into your truck. You need to save some for college.
Yes haha, thats why i am crying in joy because gas is going lowervbut who knows how long it could be till it jumps up, the guy that owned has owned it for 8 years just retired from.the army, hes a mechanic himself and took really good care of it, it is also his dailey driver(mechanic at sears) for fair shape in kelly blue book if you were to trade it in it listed 4200, i think im getting a good deal, 180,000 is getting up there but if you keep up with the required maintence it will run upwards of 400000 miles, i may fix this one up, sell for a profit and then do another one and have a side buissness going there, then maybe save up to buy a cummins diesel, then i will be set for life, the biggest thing is my daddy did not buy this truck, i bought it haha, i really want a diesel, but you cant find one that is in bad shape for under 4000. Conductor how did your 97 treat you? I know gas mileage is bad but if you want power, that comes at a price… I hopefully will gain some mpg with air intake, exhaust and a supe chip, some guys on a truck forum improved from the 12mpg stock up to 18mpg with the mods. The biigest thing is i need a full size truck! I will be pulling a tandem trailer and even a gosseneck at some point,
I liked my 97. It was a regular cab, short wheel base, Laramie. I had it about 3 years until I had to sell it. I was working in Kentucky and driving almost 80 miles each to work, so 12 mpg wasn’t cutting it. Never had any problems out of it though.

How about roll-on?

Yeah , the guy that owns the white truck was a mechanic in the army and now a mecahanic at sears, he has taken good care of the truck, and every possible preventative maintenance, the tool box should be called a parts box, he has all the fluids, replacement belts filters gaskets repair kits, back up headlights.
A Dodge, Really? Did you fall on your head when you were young?
“Those who say they’d rather push a Dodge than drive a Ford usually do.”
“How do you get a Dodge to accelerate from 0-60 in under 20 seconds? You push it off a cliff.”
“How can you make a Dodge look good? Park it between two Fords.”
“What is it when you see a Dodge drive to the top of a hill? A miracle.”
“How do you make a Dodge worth $50? Put gas in the tank.”
I am just joking, I had to put my dig in. That’s a really nice looking truck. My buddy has a Dodge and has about 130K. He loves it. They are mean looking trucks. OK one last one. “How is a golf ball different from a Dodge? You can drive a golf ball 200 yards.”
I know a couple of you own Dodge’s, so I might have just dug my own grave.
Funny funny jokes. But I do think you’ll get it. 🙂

Lol, You had a gmc correct? Im glad you got rid of it….gay man’s chevrolet haha
Oooooooh snap.
LOL, ok I deserve that, but you will be thanking me when you break down and I have to pull your truck home.

You know what ford really means is ford owners recommend dodge, i will be laughing when you tranny gos when you hit 100,000
Oh no dit-ten…… Are you going to take that?
When is someone going to say your truck wears combat boots.
Harold Wray wrote:

Lol, ford designs there fenders extra small, so you cannot fit a larger offroad tire, there for you cant take it off road so you wont break the truck the first puddle you go through so you won’t have to warranty the truck…..hahaha
The one thing that dodge could not figure out in the 94-2002 model year in the ram was the dash, damn near every 2nd gen you see has a busted up dash. A replacement is $300+!!!
I don’t know jack about trucks. But since it is your first vehicle I assume, it reminds me of my first car. I remember I felt the need to soup it up. Didn’t get to since it was always needing to get fixed. Glad I didn’t spend money on stuff that I really didn’t need like bumper kits or chips or neon lighting and all that other junk you don’t need. I’m not saying don’t fix it up, if you got the money go for it. But if you do fix it up atleast start with what it really needs first and then get all that extra stuff. I see too many kids with 22″ rims, don’t get me wrong some are pretty slick but then you look at the rest of the car and it needs a paint job, had a ton of dents, etc.
Man I sound like an old geezer and I’m only 30 lol

Couldnt agree more, im keeping it stock and doing things gradually.

😆
Only had one mopar vehicle an Jeep Cherokee classic it was ok except for electrical gremlins. I just wasn’t a Dodge truck fan until the came out with the latest Ram body style. My F150 was much better than the Silverado except for the motor. The old 5.4 was a lead sled next to the 5.3 in the chevy.
My truck, or will be in 24hours is a 5.2, but has hd package, so it has beefed up frame and 1 ton leaf springs for a gooseneck, basically the 2500 frame with the 1500 badge and motor, but then when looking at payload and tow capacity, it is the exact same as the 5.9!!!
It’s a nice looking truck. Is that a box in the back? If so what kind? I like that acronym of GMC, I never heard that one before.

I Belive a uws, after your weatherguard review i want to find a used weather guard.
Sorry Chase but you must be bad luck for Dodge. They announce a recall the day after you get your truck. Good thing it isn’t your model year, bad thing is it’s a ton of other model years. 12 million is a lot of trucks.
http://www.wxyz.com/dpp/money/auto_news/chrysler-announces-recall-of-12-million-ram-trucks
It’s nothing personal recalls happen all the time.
Ford really stands for freakin old rebuilt dodge. Just kidding. No one around here drives a dodge really. It is chevy country here and I can’t really blame them LOL. In all seriousness if you take care of it, it will take care of you.

A little over my budget but cash talks. 🙂
I remember when when that body style came out in 93. It really did change how pickup trucks looked everything was super square back then. I think you you suggested a body curve at ford or gm back then they would have stuffed you in a gas tank.
When the 92 Dodge’s came out they were the best looking trucks possibly ever. Even the interior styling put everyone else to shame. I never even considered another truck until Ford changed the Super Duty body style in 98.
Old Dodge for yah
Dead On Delivery Go Elsewhere 😀
or Doing Overhauls Daily Gets Expensive
LOL, I heard good things about UWS also. Never owned one, but have a buddy who has one and it has been good to him.
Well you dodge guys are going to kill me but i may be joining Eric and Dan on the ford crew, there a 1997 Ford ext cab long bed f250 7.3 powerstroke diesel, In mint condition, has 200,000 miles which if you know diesels is nothing, i bet this truck could pull a house! This is a heavy duty truck! Has a 5th wheel and gooseneck in the bed, along with i believe a weatherguard toolbox, also has an extra overdrive for when you are going 55+ you can get 27MPG Means i will average 20-23!!!, i have figured out with diesel being more expensive than gas, i will still come out on top with the diesel mpgs. The interior has leather and all the goodies, also is equipped with an f-450 suspension and a pac break. Heres a picture:http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p776/chaserogers911/ScreenShot2013-11-13at50607PM_zpseb5ac991.png
Just remember parts aren’t cheap for them. Let us know how it goes
NicholasShetley wrote:

Yeah when something breaks on a diesel, its expensive, but the upside is the maintenance a normal gas car or truck goes through at 100,000 i wont go through till 300,000, but the biggest thing in vehicle maintenance that not many understand is preventative maintenance. One of the cheapest maintenance items on vehicles are oil changes, they are also the most dragged out, passed by, forgotten about to where you are running on fumes, if you pay the small price here and there now, you will not have to pay the big price later.
I had a 99 F-250 Diesel. Great truck, but if you don’t need a diesel I suggest you think hard about it. $175 to fill up, forget 27mpg because that ain’t happening, $150 for an oil change, 10 ply tires cost big $$, you can’t put it in the shop for under $1000 and it’s a lot harder to find an Indy diesel shop.
If you don’t need it it’s hard to justify.
Wow. that can be expensive.
I agree with conductor. My dad has an 81 chevy one ton with a big block and we have pulled 25000 pounds with it. I would be surprised if you get 20 in that ford. My truck has 270000 on the engine and it still runs fine today. I get 15 to 17 mpg in my truck. I honestly don’t see any advantage of a diesel truck.

You have had your share of trucks. A diesel teuck is my dream to have. And i have done some thinking, a gas engone with 180000 miles is high, soon, a rebuild of both the tranny and the top end of the motor is in the near future, vs a diesel, at 200,000 will be good till about 350,000, it all has to do witb preventative maintence which i am a true believer in.Conductor562 wrote:

I got around 19 mpg in my 7.3. With a diesel you get f$&ked at the pump. Semi’s make up 90% of the diesel market. They jack the price of diesel up the big trucks don’t care, they just pass the cost along. It’s the guys with the pickups and RV’s that take the real beating. When I bought my diesel, gas was $2.25 and diesel was $1.40 something. When I traded it in gas was $3.50 and diesel was $4.85. When I started going over $150 for a tank of fuel I was done.
A diesel will go 3X’s the miles of a gas job, but they need maintenance just like everything else and when they do you’d better have some cash. Even basic work is 2-3X’s what it is for a gas truck. If you can afford the added expense then go for it, but I just wanted you to know what you’re in for.

Damn! 1.40 for diesel, that had to have been nice! I know what im in for, but between that and tools, thats what i spend my money on, i have a good job with a great boss, which im not afraid to work. Some kids like to spend money on there video games or motocross, my toys are a little more expensive but i plan on keeping this for a very long time, this is going to be my ongoing project haha
Yea, I had a boner for a Diesel truck at one point but reality sets in unless your doing some crazy towing you don’t need the added hassle a Diesel motor has they are not built for short trips or stop and go traffic plus like conductor mentioned the fuel isn’t cheap anymore and in the usa we pay a premium for diesel motors in Europe its the other way gas engines are the premium power plant. If I won the lotto you can bet I am probably running the the nearest Ford dealership and getting a loaded King Ranch F450 superduty. With the power the new V6 pickups have its more than enough for 95% of the people that use pickups on a daily basis. Unless your towing a skid steer on a gooseneck even contractors are better served with a gasser.
Ford diesel engines are junk, but the trucks are solid. Dodge trucks are junk, but the cummins is the king.
I don’t play around when it comes to building trucks. I only drive the best.

Fummins!! Thats what im talking about, I have made a new best friend! Damn thats a purty truck. I love the 97 and older ford f250 body styles, like you said a ford truck is great, same thing with a cummins best diesel you can buy. Maybe down the road i will stick a 12v in haha that would be something.

I think dodge has a winner with the new 3.0 liter diesel dor the 1/2 ton trucks get great fuel economy with plenty of power and torque.

I love cummins trucks. Once you go diesel, you’ll never go back to a gasser. Even old 94 to 98 dodges are pretty cool in my book. The ford is my play truck. Here is work truck. 81 cab and chassis GMC with a 95 12 valve conversion.

My uncle has an 85 chevy four door with a 12 valve in it. I would put a picture of it on here but I don’t know how.
