New stuff heading our way

I was roaming DeWALT’s website and found that there are listings for the tool connect stuff now. I found out the bluetooth adapter to convert non bluetooth tools is non removable once installed. It appears DeWALT has ditched the current switch like on the dcd996 and is going with a button switch like on Makita impacts and onekey stuff. Appears to have 4 modes on the drill. 1, 2, 3, and one that looks like a house. I’m surprised DeWALT didn’t include tool connect batteries with tool connect tools. I was unable to find the tc impact driver or the non compact tc drill driver.

I initially said it’s probably a gimmick, but after reading Dewalts site….the tool connect Bluetooth stuff  sounds real nice….I’d pay that 19$ a month to gps my stolen tool and go get it….sensors,locks….really looks good…thanks j man

it has gps? That would be nice if it did then you would have a better range than one key and tick stuff.

Framer joeMember since Nov 2016

Ya .real .gps on the Verizon network…so true gps locator to get you within 50′ of your tool..it said…19$ a month. Anywhere in the Verizon coverage area..which is the USA..and covers up to 10 tools……

…………..ALSO you can disable the tool by…..TEXT message EVAN if it doesn’t have a battery on it…

JronmanMember since May 2016

oh wow this sounds nice. 50′ precision seems like quite an impressive claim.

JronmanMember since May 2016

I did one last check on the website and found a dcd997 with 2 tc 5.0 batteries. it is the tool connect successor to the 996. Back when tool guyd released the tc teaser this wasn’t in the picture of the tc drills. Also appears the tc drills have 3 customizable rpm settings. I would guess the modes on the base are for switching between the customizable modes and not the light. I’m still curious what the home mode is for. Also found the dcf888. Precision drive mode returns but for those who don’t like it, it is customizable.

Cr8ondtMember since May 2016

Maybe it’s just me but I kinda like the good old mode select switch…. But hey who am I to complain… I want em!!!!

Framer joeMember since Nov 2016

Ya I’m gonna return my 996 I just got and get the new 997 …cuz I just need to try it out…plus it looks cool

you should give us a review when you get em. You getting the dcf888?

AnonymousJoeMember since Sep 2015

Strange I found the 997 on dewalts website yesterday and today I can’t find it anywhere on there

BremonMember since Dec 2014

That happens frequently. Things get posted too soon sometimes lol lucky for us! The 888 is the one I’m most interested in.

Framer joeMember since Nov 2016

I’ll give a heads up when the 997 comes in….when I can order it….not getting the dcf888 @Jronman …..or dcd792….I love the 887 and 791..especially the 791….I know tool connect/Bluetooth will allow some (3)? Rpm change or something but I’d have to hear that it’s sooooooooo much better then the 791 or 887 …….I assume in a couple years they’ll be a newer 791 or 887 …I’d prob wait for those…………..

………….maybe Dewalt catches up and gets impulse?

DPSEliasMember since Mar 2014

I’m glad I got my 996 for “free” or I’d be really disappointed.

Based on DeWalts track record, I’d say that’s 2-4 years out…. They either innovate with new class products at breakneck speed or drag their asses meeting the competition…

BremonMember since Dec 2014

So we can expect one in a couple months on the innovative new 16V Max platform? (Please God, no!) lol.

Framer joeMember since Nov 2016

I hear that @Cr8ondt…I love em and hate em……what I don’t understand is with all these guys on here that supposedly have inside info but “can’t talk” right now…..and other guys that are privileged to see and try new tools……..why don’t they tell Dewalt insiders that customers are pissed off with their tool strategy……why doesn’t TIA Dan and Eric say something to Dewalt about ……

… start expanding existing lines instead of starting new ones

….add new tools that other companies don’t have to existing lines

….release tools to preorder customers first, and dedicated tool suppliers not HD

….stop focusing on gadgets and build long lasting quality tools

….release accessories for tools at the same time ,not months later to get it

and if guys are saying this to Dewalt why doesn’t Dewalt give a shit about losing customers……….Happy Mothers Day

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Well to be fair a lot of what I’ve heard of guys giving feedback to companies is “they know the market best” “they know what they’re doing” type hubris, and that’s from multiple colours. My understanding is Dewalt is finally doubling down on 20v Max and FlexVolt is here to stay. 40v and 12v I’m less convinced of. Milwaukee is finally coming around on 2x batteries I believe after 2 years of “18v can do it all!” head in the sand attitude. They’re losing market share, hence all the 9.0 promos. Dewalt is aggressively establishing FlexVolt marketshare with their promos as well.

My opinion is Makita has done it best, even though I’m not a fan of 2x battery use, it’s still awesome to keep guys on one platform Milwaukee-style, but have huge power FlexVolt-style.

JronmanMember since May 2016

I heard Makita is working on their own 60v battery. I don’t see 40v going quite yet. flexvolt just doesn’t have the runtime to make it a viable replacement for pros who use ope to make a living.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Won’t be discontinued but I don’t see it getting extensive R&D money.

Framer joeMember since Nov 2016

Flexvolt is a definitely a viable option Jman….the runtime and cut capacity of the flex circ with a 3/9ah beats any other cordless tool period ….it easily lasts all day with two batteries or 1 and put it on the charger at lunch…….it is easily more powerful then most corded circ saws except worm drive …and maybe the 2battery Makita…….

…………….I should know ,, been framing over thirty years and as I said before no one has built more houses then us ..including neighborhoods or large customs

………….PLUS I use it to frame decks every weekend with my deck company..

……The complete Flexvolt system is the Best System (except the sawzall…FUEL wins) ….Many Framing companies now use the complete system….DIY not so much, nor should they buy into it………

……Nothing is better then being cordless !  Not fighting for power..or plug space,,tripped breakers…….

Flexvolt does more then just ….make a living …it creates wealth

BremonMember since Dec 2014

My woodworking tools are mainly for DIY and I’m perfectly happy with FlexVolt. Didn’t realize I did something I shouldn’t ?. Plus @Framer joe he was talking specifically about the OPE; the 40v has more watt hours, an awesome multi charger and a wider range of OPE.

Framer joeMember since Nov 2016

Ah, 40v isn’t leaving,18v isn’t leaving,20v isn’t leaving,60v either……..crazy when guys say the platform is going away….agree 60v  ope doesn’t last but also not powerful enough compared to other brands…..the DIY thing…Bman…I wouldn’t call you the avg DIY guy,, with tool forum talk and tool knowledge…..90% of DIY guys at HD know absolutely nothing about tools or tool safety and Should Not be buying Powerful Flexvolt Cordless Tools……and Ego is Best……more POWA

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Lol all good @Framer joe I’m just kidding around. I could see double battery pro OPE coming out though and 40v not seeing much for releases. 40v isn’t disappearing but it may end up like 18v which sees approximately 0 releases per year these days.

Think about it slightly differently. They could introduce Double 20V battery OPE, and offer a very similar item item using 90-95% of the same parts with a different battery mount to use the 40V OPE battery. Homeowners who have 20V tools could then buy one item, landscaping contractors could buy a very similar item, for example both could be happy with a 20-22 inch mower that uses a battery they each have in their inventory. To me that would be win win right there.

Fluffy .the comic .in Chicago funny shit I just watched ……2 battery stuff i.e. Makita is awkward ..usually heavy…on a stationery tool ok…..

Does OPE need a tonne of releases though? I have Ego OPE rather than DeWalt, but even their line is, what, eight tools? It seems pretty complete too (On the other hand, this). They could start releasing riding mowers maybe, but they would need “more POWA” (credit to framer joe).

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Think how many OPE lines have a cordless mower. Ego and… Makita? Ego has pole trimmer, edger, etc. attachments, self-propelled and standard push mowers,  a snowblower, a backpack blower. Most brands have a token release of 3 tools. 3 tools doesn’t make a line. Ego is deeper than 40v Max, which is meant to be a dedicated professional OPE solution. I’d say nobody but Ego does OPE properly.

I’m still tossing the idea of getting the Dewalt string trimmer.

I’m impressed with it. Don’t regret not getting an ego at all. Not sure what direction I’ll go with the blower.

I’ve got the first generation blower from Ego and love it. My 20v Dewalt blower is great but the Ego has quite a bit more power. I’m really impressed with the Wgo mower special. That is a fantastic mower. So yes to the Dewalt!

BremonMember since Dec 2014

FlexVolt trimmer is awesome, blower seems much better than M18 but still not Ego territory. 3.0/9.0 have far more utility for me though.

3 tools don’t make a line, but I think you will find most folks with OPE have a string trimmer, a blower (maybe it is a leaf vacuum too) and push mower, beyond that some might add a hedge trimmer or a chain saw. Not everyone needs a pole saw and most people I know don’t touch an edger and snow blowers are a regional thing. So if a business is going after a market share the smart thing to do is to sell the items people that people are going to buy the most of first and introduce others later.

So a mower is a good idea you’d agree? You’d also likely agree that 40v max is lagging behind customization options Ego and others have?

Yes a mower makes sense and I can see where you could consider the 40V line lagging behind other brands. In my eyes mowers and their options are a rabbit hole like the infamous blade left/ blade right, sidewinder/ worm drive arguments folks have over circular saws. People will argue what is the best size, discharge, self propelled versus big wheel. I just figure you have to be able to get it through a normal size gate, trim where a rider or bigger walk/ride behind mower can’t go and do small yards would be the optimal size for starters.

I showed my Ego stuff to a good friend who is a pro mower. He really liked them. He is using only gas stuff right now but is looking into the Ego trimmer.

Ego has a lot of tools. I could see many more coming. Pole hedge attachment for the multi attachment trimmer for example.

Ego …new for 2017 a hand held blower with 575 cfm  at 149 mph ..variable trigger brand new…..ego constantly tries to top itself as the king of ope…cordless/gasless

I figured this out when I got the HD promo blower, I posted on IG and Tool Pig had the 575 one, looks like they improved the control a little bit, trigger lock and a better variable speed control

There was a post on the forum about a possible new mid torque impact wrench and when I asked my tool guy about a compact 1/2″ brushless he said his source said something was coming in June.  So I guess my question is has anyone else heard of any impact wrenches coming out in this next tool release?

BremonMember since Dec 2014

All I read of the mid torque was it wasn’t meant to be shown or spoken of. Hopefully it’s not a joke like the XR 3/8″. As for release window, I have no idea.

The.HandymanMember since Aug 2015

Mid torque is due out this year. When? Who knows with DeWalt. It will probably look like one of the MAC impact wrenches.

At least we know the rear handle circular saw will be quarter 4.

Nah they’ll probably come out with a cordless worm, show it go through 4′ long timber, cooks a 9.0 at 4.1′ and act like they’ve re-invented the wheel, in the mean time Makita puts 4 packs on a 16″ saw

Poor Bosch guy couldn’t bring his Eneracer battery with him so he’s hacking by hand
