Were in the process of looking for a new house, I don’t see a two car garage I see where can I squeeze the wife’s car in my new workshop

Gotta go with a 3 car garage slice, It’s the only way to go. Well worth any extra money.

I agree but for now that’s unrealistic but once we decide to buy our keeper home I want a hunk of land I can build a dedicated shop

Mrs. Conductor came to the realization years ago that parking a car in our garage was a pipe dream. When it’s cold, I go start her car for her. It’s well worth the sacrifice.
Once in awhile she gets pissy about something totally unrelated and gives me the “(insert random friend) doesn’t have half the garage we do and she gets to park in it!” To which I usually make some degrading comment about random friend’s husband’s questionable manhood due to his lack of excessive amounts of tools and forget about it.
Decided to try and tackle a restore on one of my hand planes. I’m still new to planes and how to use them/set them up properly. I think my sharpening could use a little work. Im pretty sure there is still a slight Burr but I’m not completely sure. Handles still need to be redone though. I chipped off any loose pieces from the front handle and put 1 coat of shellac on for the heck of it. Here are the pics.

Size comparison vs the Hitachi. Kinda hard to tell but the Bosch is smaller and doesn’t need to be out from the wall as far. [External image (uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com), not copied]

thats awesome dude, bosch is a lot more compact than the hitachi, its a sweet saw though, the glide feature is insanely smooth
The additions continue. My love of old tools is really starting to show. I purchased a late 40’s to mid 50′ Delta 6″ jointer this week. It is all cast iron and solid. I’m not yet sure if it is a slight mutt or not though. I love the art deco style and it will match great with the drill press and somewhat the grinder. At some point I will do a full restore on it but today it got the cutter head cleaned up with a nylon sanding wheel brush. Cuts really nicely for what I did. I’m sure I will get blades at some point but this will buy me some time. I need to find the correct knob for the fence though. The one on it isn’t correct. The switch cover is also wrong. I found a reproduction on eBay I’ll probably get. Here are the pics. I did find a crack in the back cast piece of the base today which makes me sad. I’ll look into what to do with it.
Love your old tool restorations. Nice jointer!

Thanks. Becoming the norm for me somehow. Lol.
Keeps you at home. I tell the wife it could be worse. I could be out drinking on a bass boat or hanging with trashy women 🙂
But seriously, I love watching your restorations.

@rrich1 how do you like your Grrr-iper? Looks like the blades cleaned up nicely.

Love them. I highly recommend them. They have a gravity drop piece in the back to help push the piece but will rise up if used on the top of a board.
I finally bought a wire wheel and a buffer wheel for the grinder. Not sure what took me so long. Here are a few pics of a part from the jointer. A few minutes of a wire wheel on the drill press vs seconds on the grinder and then lightly polished out. You are not supposed to wire wheel your gloves.

I laughed, that was too funny ahhaaha
That sheen tho!! The high speed of the grinder really helps that application, its like using a drill with a sawblade vs an actual circular saw haha

True. Save me some money in gloves.

No room for that. Honestly I like the brushed look more so won’t be using a buffer all that much. I won’t be restoring the jointer right now. Part was easy to get off and just did a few pieces to clean them up.

I did it again. I bought a Sargent 414 plane (Stanley #5 equivalent). It was a little rough but not bad. Took about an hour and a half to restore. I still need to redo the handles and sharpen it though. I forget to get a pic of the sole before I cleaned it. It looked like the side though. Used my new fit pliers from @kctoolco to hold all the bolts for cleaning. Did a great job of gripping them. I got a Stanley sweetheart #4 plane 1925-1928 to restore for a father in law gift. I had a wardsmaster #5 I’m going to pair it with as well for him. I’ll keep the Sargent I just redid along with the newer record for my use. The wards was already in great shape. Just cleaning it up a little and getting the blade done right. The Stanley is a little worse off but should clean up well.[External image (uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com), not copied][External image (uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com), not copied][External image (uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com), not copied][External image (uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com), not copied][External image (uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com), not copied][External image (uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com), not copied]

Thanks! The saw has been really great so far. Adding the extra storage and router table were simple projects but were excellent additions to the saw/shop. If you have the room I suggest the bigger saw. It is more stable and I believe has more capacity. It really doesn’t take up any more space than the job site saws. Check for Lowe’s to do 11% rebate weeks. At least it will save you a little bit of money.

Got refinished the handles for the wards master plane. Turned out really nice being able to see the grain. Before they were solid black. The wards master and Stanley were gifted to my father in law this week. He really liked them. Working on a Sargent low angle block plane now. Should be finished today. Started and finished a Sargent 5307 low angle? Block plane today. Started in pretty decent shape. Apparently when you sharpen with 2500 grit you get a mirror shine. Whoduthunk. Started on the Brodhead Garrett vise today. Had to break out the knipex duo cobra/pliers wrench to get the rods and nuts off. The larger Milwaukee wrench just couldn’t handle it. Currently soaking in a purple power and simple green mix right now. I found a friend that has a sand blaster which will really help to clean this up. Need to contact him about a good time to use it.

So awesome catching up on what you’re up to, the old stuff was meant to last, and here’s proof, so cool! I still have my old Delta scroll saw on my list, that thing is not going anywhere, can’t get stuff that incredible anymore!

Thanks knarly. Some old tools are worth redoing.
I took the vise to my friends house today who has a small sand blaster. Did an ok job but there was multiple layers of paint it just couldn’t get off. Got the pieces in paint stripper right now. Hopefully it will do the rest of the job. Might take a couple of times though.
My friend had a dust collector he had never used. He got it from someone else a while ago and I saw it in the corner. Offered it to me $25! Yes please! It’s a 1hp jet. Will be a step up from the dust deputy and small shop vac I have now. These were some before pics of me cleaning it up. Looks a lot better now. The bags are currently in the wash lol.
