New tool releases from Milwaukee

FrosBros82Member since Feb 2015

After watching the video again, I must admit…. I am coming away more impressed with the storage system. For $280 It doesn’t seem to bad when you consider your normal method of storing your tools. For independent contractors who are going from job to job, this system would be the way to go, in my opinion. Similar to their nail guns and out door stuff, I will be waiting for others to buy so I can see some reviews.

The videos (A Concord Carpenter’s) are what changed my mind and justified the price. I hope they come out with boxes with drawers.

I agree. It’s interesting that they actually came out with new storage solutions. I talked to my Milwaukee rep about storage and he told me there is minimal money in it… because the shipping cost that come with the boxes… which at the time made sense in my mind. With that, I think it’s more of a product to try and counter what Dewalt is doing…. in my opinion.

Not sure if it’s a regional thing or what. There are probably 20 sets of Ridgid boxes floating around my shop at any given time.

On stage all you see is different departments using Ridgid. I can’t recall the last time I saw a set of Dewalt boxes.

One feature that is seemingly missing is the ability to have the same functionality as the tough system cart and wall rack. No wall rack or cart to hold the packout boxes were announced. Seems like a missed opportunity to not have the ability to mount on a wall rack. Milwaukee may have something up their sleeve. Hopefully they will unveil it in their next wave of packout releases. Thats the one feature where tough system still has the upper hand. Maybe could call it the “UnPack Rack”?

With the way they attach and the bracing on the corners, there’s a LOT of room for innovative design. Heck, they can make small bags that hang off the side too. I’m sure that their are tons of stuff in the works, surely a radio as well.

Kind of a bummer that the new high torque pin detent impact wrench doesn’t get the same 1400ft/lbs.  Not that I really need it as the first gen ever was short on power for what I do, but if I’m going to “justify” getting the new one it better be the biggest and baddest and I work at heights so the the pin detent is a must.

FrosBros82Member since Feb 2015

@Biggie yeah, I noticed the same thing. It looks awesome… but not sure what I would ever get into that would need that much power. lol

If they’re going to have an issue with the torque breaking the pin detent they’re going to need to find a way to reinvent the wheel. I’m not in need of the high torque or a pin detent but that was still disappointing to hear.

Not quite, they don’t have them yet, they simply were checking them out at the NPS17…

Has anyone looked at the new Milwaukee screwdrivers and compared them to the Irwin screwdrivers? They look awfully similar.

You sure?

This certainly looks like it was shot in their garage and not at NPS.

The Packout system looks really nice. Just wish it would have been out a few years ago. I’ll be sell off all my tough boxes once I get my trailer finished.

Wherever this was shot and they were checking it out, I would not consider this their review, simply a first impression look…. And as you can see, the comments of that video share my sentiment[emoji51] [emoji42]

Forgive me if this has been answered already, but when are the new 12v Fuel drill/impacts due out? Semi-OT, but I wish Milwaukee would release a new 12v tuning radio w/BT. Their 12v radio has been out for 7 years and is a bit long in the tooth.

The new headlamp made it to my HD, though it’s the other lights I’m more interested in. The headlamp seems very nice but I just don’t know about a non-focus headlamp. The headband looks really nice and thick.

I got the LED Rover light from my rep last week, I personally like it a lot. I just keep it in the door of my truck in case I need a quick light, plus I like that I can recharge it and that the charger works for other devices as well. Also, the charger seems pretty nice too… not like my iPhone one that takes a crap on me every six months.

How is the magnet on the back? I heard early reports that it wasn’t as strong as the magnet on the bottom. The one on the back is the main reason I’m interested in it.

I just received a set of these. Haven’t got any time on them yet, but from feel and appearance, I would say that they are a bit of a downgrade from the Taiwan-made prior ones, which I’ve been very happy with.

Looks like there’s a more pro-grade set coming to HD soon:

Magnet on the side clip is pretty poor, it will hold, but slides down on surfaces quite easily.

The one on the top is quite strong, even holding it horizontally off a surface is no problem, it’s definitely the strong one!

I think the clip itself should have protruded from the body of the light so that it can clip to metal lips or whatever without getting tipped back if that makes sense, it only works good to clip to your pocket

Thanks Brad. Sadly with that issue there is no real need for me to upgrade over the Craftsman lights. I spend $3 with $3 back in points for all of those so I can add my own magnets and modify it without guilt because they were soo cheap. Damn, I was hoping it would be good and strong, half the time I’m holding the Craftsman light because there’s no good spot to stick it.

I think they did that for the magnets, they probably should have put the clip on the side…it’s pretty rare that you’d use the clip and the light at the same time.

Wait, I think I have an idea. L-shaped bracket, magnets on the long side of the L and stick the light to the short side. Then it can be attached and rotated!

Sorry for the late response. The magnet is alright, I don’t think its amazing, but it’s not poor either. My major complaint with it would be the actual pocket clip. It hasn’t happened yet, but I question if it will break easily if caught? If that makes sense. I agree with @KnarlyCarl that it could be improved… as I would like to be able to clip it to other things, oppose to just my pocket. (Stole his whole sentence, I know)
