I have a ton more M12 tools, but I actually USE M18 stuff more, mainly the 3/8″ impact wench. 18v Makita is a distant third.

M18 and M12

Bigger tools like impacts and saws are M18 and smaller skill/accesory tools are M12. Since the company I work for uses Dewalt and we work out of a van the only everyday personal tools I take for me are M12 Fuel driver/drill/hackzall, radio and multitool. I’m either putting up trim with the van/miter saw or doing some touch ups,low voltage/speakers/painting and the M12 Fuels are more than adequate. My personal corded tools like routers/planers/sanders are Bosch. I’m trying to stay one company for battery tools. Everything else is corded.

Primary is Hitachi 18v, with DeWalt 20v Max as my secondary. I have Hitachi’s KC18DBFL brushless kit which I love and received an amazing deal on, then bought the DeWalt 790+886 brushless kit a few months later in a comparable deal. I recently picked up the Triple Hammer and as long as that tool’s in my inventory I will never part with Hitachi. They’re my go to for heavy-duty work while the compact size of DeWalt’s 790 is perfect for medium and light-duty tasks. I also own lights and radios for both (Hitachi’s BT radio has amazing clarity).

I’m heavy into both the M18 and M12 platforms. I have a DCD985 I keep in the truck that sees a lot of use and I like it a lot. I also have a couple of AC/Delco 12V tools.

I’ve been very happy with my Milwaukee stuff, but I will say this, if I were going to replace my cordless tools today, the choice would be a lot harder than it was when I chose Milwaukee 6-7 years ago.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Agreed with conductor. I have a pile of Milwaukee and it was the obvious choice in late ’13/early ’14. I’ve been impressed enough by Dewalt lately that if I started today I might have more yellow. Happy to have both though.

Dewalt has really answered to some awesome tools but they still somewhat ignored what users want, blade left brushless circ saw with hook, compact brushless impact wrenches,  not needing a different battery for a brushless sawzall, although the compact recip is coming out on 20v, no company is perfect but they just seem to complicate things sometimes.

No argument from me there Jimbo. For every success they have they have something else that makes me scratch my head.

That was what lead me to exit the yellow line, i was pissed id have to invest more money in batteries to have a halfway decent recip saw and a brushless circ saw, just not right… oh well they still have awesome tools

BremonMember since Dec 2014

But in automaker fashion, they want you to get the Cadillac (FlexVolt) to get the latest and next year it will be in the GMC/Chevy (20v Max). Crappy but that’s the way it goes sometimes. The circ saw guys will still get their small sidewinder, but it’s sad that it’s 2016 and they are still waiting when the 2730 was out years ago.

Rumored yes

BremonMember since Dec 2014

😀 man Makita marches to the beat of a different drum. I like what they’re laying down. I feel Milwaukee has a lot of ground to make up if they want to wow me at NPS17. Plus I have almost all the tools they make that interest me so I need new hotness lol.

JimboS1iceMember since Sep 2015

im sure well see a few more impacts before the x2 hypoid comes up for air

That’s been rumored almost since the brushless recip was tentatively confirmed.

Who knows, it might already be released in some country I’ve never heard of.

Main platform for me is Dewalt 20v Max. For now I have about 6 tools but that will change, lol.

Secondary platform is Milwaukee M12. I got the 2404-22 Fuel hammerdrill kit  on clearance for $99 at my HD this past spring. I had been wanting to get into the M12 for awhile so I jumped on it and love it!

FordgasmMember since Jan 2016

M18, selling off all my Craftsman C3 stuff after two of their batteries died right after the year warranty was up.

M12 is just barely beating M18 for main. I had a lot of M12 and just started bulking up my M18 this year. I think I have one less M18 tool than M12 unless I’m missing one while trying to go over them in my head.

My main platform is Milwaukee M12 because that’s what most of my tools are. I’m slowly upgrading to M18 tools and adding in tools from other brands; I don’t think I will invest in another 12v platform except maybe just a Fein MultiTalent. My brushed M12 drill will probably remain my only drill until I have a need for a hammer drill or it breaks, however I’ve replaced the brushed M12 impact with a brushed Makita 18v version.

18v DeWalt XRP.

I have a ryobi 18v impact and the ryobi 18v drill and 18v hammer drill. They work great and have survived falls 40ft up in the crane so no complaints.  All the one plus tools i have are great.  I don’t use any other battery tools.  Everything i do is mostly in shop so corded tools line my tool boxes.

Wow I am the only Kobalt user, but I finally started to invest in the newer cordless equipment and I wasn’t sure I was going to like it as much as I do. I have the 24v drill and impact and love them. At work I have a M18 drill and impact that I use and they supplied, honestly like the new Kobalt stuff better. Now there is 1 M18 fuel set that I have tried and it is probably the nicest set I have ever used, but that being said I paid $169 for my set and another $50 for a 4ah battery. $500 is a lot of money for me to spend on a drill/driver kit. Hopefully I will not regret  my choice.

I like Kobalt’s 24v line a good deal and owned the whole collection, but I worry about Lowe’s supporting it long-term (see the Kobalt thread I just posted in). I ended up returning it since I already owned Hitachi’s brushless 18v combo kit and the others in the collection tended to be better corded. Did you pay with cash or credit and do you have the receipts? The Kobalt line has a year-long money-back guarantee.

I paid with my lows card because I got extra money off. It was a sale they had going on at the time. I have the receipt plus it is on my, my lows card. I like them and for what I paid I will take my chances. I am thinking about also investing in another battery line for more variety. At work they provided me a m18 drill and driver plus they have some boch drills both are nice, but older. Early li-on stuff. There is 1 m18 fuel set that is sweet, but those are pricey. I have a m12 ratchet that I love, but not sure I want to go full blown Milwaukee.

Well that sucks, that’s a big step up moving to the m18 line
