I know roughly what everyone uses but this will be cool to see the percentages

Firmly entrenched in M18. Some M12 stuff that’s mainly accessory oriented. After years of chirping yellow I now have a small XR collection. Hoping to keep it to 2 colors/3 systems. My main problem is I can’t bring myself to buy much that isn’t brushless lol. In fact, I don’t think I have any brushed tools beyond a cordless fan?

BMack37Member since Sep 2015

M18 and wanting to dig deeper down that rabbit hole!

I may actually have more m12 than m18..

thats the hilti voltage!i knew it was an odd one, thats why i put the + behind it lol

HiltiWpgMember since Sep 2015

Every 18v battery is 3.6v X 5 = 18v (even dewalt 20v Max BS),

Hilti is 3.6v X 6 = 21.6v

More electrical pressure, high capacity, more watt hours baby!

I’m constantly tempted by them. The lower prices on them makes it so easy to justify the extra purchases lol

Turner85Member since Jun 2015

I’m nearly half and half dewalt and makita. I’ve one more dewalt battery so chose them

I read an article recently about a mechanic using a DeWalt for three days without having to charge or change the battery. I haven’t used the cordless impact from them yet so I was wondering about you guys’ experience with it (I’ve been using other brands–only used the DeWalt for woodwork).

Brushless, I believe it. Milwaukees are absolute powerhouses, I’ve used some impacts before, pneumatic and battery powered but the compact brushless feel more powerful than anything I’ve used before…and I don’t have the big Fuel 1/2 “High Torque” impact. Lithium and brushless are really astonishing technologies, game changers.

The thing is, with lithium, you want it to be fully charged. Just because you can go three days without charging doesn’t mean you should. Topping them off will extend the life of the battery.

Also keep in mind that this is impact wrenches, it’s not a reciprocating saw in demo or a circular saw building a house. Who knows how many times he used it. A mechanic might go as little as 8 uses for a brake job, as little as 4 for a tire change(using a powered ratchet and torque wrench to put it back on), some jobs he wouldn’t use it at all…some days he might blow through a battery(also will depend on the Ah of the battery). You’d need to find runtime numbers and do real-world count of how many uses and how long each use lasts. It takes virtually no time on the trigger to remove one lug nut, one tire might only be 3 to 8 seconds on the trigger.

I cannot comment on how good the Dewalt impacts are but I’m sure they’re great.

Tore apart three JD 500R rotary platforms and rebuilt them over a course of two days plus several days of routine field blade and nut guard/accelerator changes on one 4ah battery without emptying a battery. Also run several of the M18 compact fuel impact wrenches that easily have all day run time. DeWalt DCF899 beats the 2763 on paper but Milwaukee underrated theirs because of typical shenanigans and it will consistently outperform the DeWalt in shear breakaway torque. M12 ratchets have runtime measured in days also.

Yep, it’s not the specific brand, it’s the brushless technology.

Who is using B&D? We don’t see a lot(or any) posts about B&D, might be nice for some of the lurkers/new members/found-in-google-search users if an owner posted their experiences with the brand. I mean it is a popular brand, owned by another popular brand, we should see more posts about them.

The only B&D thing I have is the 20v trimmer. I had an autosense drill and a reciprocating saw that I got a great deals on but I sold them without much use. The recip saw was useable but I bought it for $20…$20, new from Lowe’s on sale. Regular price is like $40 for the bare tool, crazy cheap.

Craigh9916Member since Oct 2015

My main platform is bosch 18v I have a lot of it and it’s bomb proof also I have bosch 36v sds

Metabo 10.8v impact and drill with 5.2 ah batteries which are very good and just recently bought into the dewalt 18v ( 20v max ) with the dcf 887 but my main line is always going to be bosch as I’m heavily invested in that line

I still miss my Autosense drill. I gave it to another member in need but that was a heck of good assembly drill. Believe it or not!

Haven’t seen anything out of that member in quite a bit actually. Just curious if anyone has heard from Nate?

I picked Bosch in the poll, but Metabo is catching up. I haven’t got any new Makita 18v tools since I bought the brushless circular saw. I guess I’ve got.3-18v Ryobi tools as well.

Was just thinking about a number of members this week I haven’t seen post in ages. NER, torontotoolman, protoolnut etc. The community feels smaller when we don’t hear from some of the (former?) regulars.

Yeah, I miss seeing NER. John is a good guy. I really miss Wayne Burgess too. He’s been busy as heck but i still wish he had time for us guys on this side of the pond!

havent seen Conductor in a long time either. Red too. Members ebb and flow on the site though. I took a leave of absence for a few months when I was having some personal issues. Coming back is always fun though.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Yeah some quick digging and I realize who Voldemort is. Damn. And yeah, I’ve taken a break from the site too but it’s hard to find people to talk this much about tools with lol. My girlfriend just nods and tunes out and most people at work are content to leave the stuff they use at work…at work. NER I believe had the Festool vac+sander setup for spray foam cleanup which at the time really blew me away. One of the first videos I’ve seen of Festool in action as well.

That said, we do have a ton of great members still around. The amount of great videos from the likes of Dwain, Jimbo, KnarlyCarl, etc. blows me away, and everyone is always so willing to give helpful tips, tricks and advice. Look at my thread on hole hawg chucks; sparky and others chimed in so quickly the matter was settled in a day haha. Plus we get new members from time to time like wild who dive in head first and become positive contributors from the word “go”. I really ought to start making videos etc. to give back to the community a bit!

1: sorry dude forgot festool!

2: just today NER popped up on my Instagram, I followed he followed back, was going to send him a message and see what he’s up to

Well i have batteries for each tool… I don’t have a main battery platform as I buy the tool that I’m most comfortable with and if its in another battery system I buy the batteries and charger or a kit.

But as of now the most tools I have in any system is milwaukee.

but i have 4 milwaukee batteries

5 metabo batteries

5 dewalt batteries

2 hitachi batteries

2 ridgid batteries

2 bosch batteries

4 makita batteries and ONE makita tool. I didnt realize how long a 4.0 ah battery lasted on the new brushless grinder so before i even used it i bought 3 4.0 batteries …

its a pita to have so many systems but I always buy my tools cheap or on clearance so in turn its not that expensive.

It’s not really worth talking about. It’s in the past and we have moved on. We still have some great members on the site. I don’t think we should talk about someone that isn’t here to defend themselves anyway.
