M18 Fuel Miter finally up on HD site…

Kind of funny, because all of the pics are of a corded model.

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

Yeah I almost didn’t notice it because of the photos but the caption said m18 fuel and the description is all the fuel too. I think it’s pretty preliminary because there appears to be some typos or possible inaccuracies, it says two batteries in the specs. That would be cool for $699 and TWO 9 amp batts but I’m not holding my breath that that’s not a mistake…

The model ends in -21, so I’m pretty sure it’s just a 1 battery kit.

I’ve used the corded model and it’s a pretty nice miter

I have the corded model and it is a beast……with power to spare……

lunicyMember since Nov 2015

I’m getting excited

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Gotta say I am definitely looking forward to this. Trying to convince myself I don’t need two miter saws but I tried to convince myself of that with drills… Impacts… Circular saws… Sigh.

If HD’s weights are to be believed then the FlexVolt is 11 lbs heavier than Fuel.

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

Well it’s a 12″ saw so I’d expect it would most likely be heavier than the 10″ Milwaukee…

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Naturally; just comparing portability on cordless miters for anyone who’s curious. Actually HD site and Dewalt site differ. Dewalt lists the miter at 44 lbs. A product page for the M18 would be nice for comparisons sake.

KnarlyCarlMember since Jan 2016

…and it’s gone, the page is’nt working now

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

Yeah it’s been gone for almost a week I think. They either jumped the gun or needed to revise it and put up actual photos.

JimboS1iceMember since Sep 2015

sounds like a combination of both lol

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Details are up on the Milwaukee site for the Fuel mitre. 45lbs. Some short videos on Instagram etc. looking pretty impressive.

JimboS1iceMember since Sep 2015

They definitely took the portability route for things

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Kruger construction Instagram claims 43 lb weight for M18 Fuel Mitre and 60 lbs for the sliding FlexVolt.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

That’s without a battery.

JimboS1iceMember since Sep 2015

The fuel is much lighter than the flex volt, but the flex volt is pretty much the corded model as well

That’s what makes them both so appealing. They target different niches. Makes me want both 😆

The flexvolt has two batteries and and the mains adapter too so it’s probably closer to 70 lbs full up.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Exactly. Gets out of hand quick.

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

Dewalt only makes the flexvolt in 12″ right. It’s listed on Home Depot at 73.33 lbs. It does like a great 12″ and battery or mains makes for a versatile tool but the 10″ Fuel seems like a great portable saw with just one battery to lug around and significantly lighter to boot.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Yep, just the 12″.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Mid-October release date from Canadian suppliers. The kit with a 9.0 is $900. The FlexVolt kit with 2 batteries and plug is $1100 and can be found with a stand thrown in… Milwaukee’s pricing model is really frustrating me lately.

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

Just a heads up – HD updated the page to show it DOES INCLUDE TWO 9 Ah batteries! They mention it in the text and a photos showing the extra battery included. $599 with the quick charger and 2x9Ah make it one of the better bargains now in Milwaukee’s product lineup and makes it far more competitive with the flexvolt. Two 9ers means you can go all day nonstop with this saw.

You figure the 9Ah kit with charger is $250 and another standalone 9Ah is $200. It’s like getting the saw for $150 😛

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Looks like a special promo to me. Model is still -21HD. Still. A second 9.0 could sell me on this saw even though I don’t want it lol.

keep in mind all stand alone batteries have been quite expensive by themselves….

Oh totally but having a big ass 9 thrown in makes it a pretty decent deal.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

I don’t know that we will see twin packs of 9.0 or even pricing on a 6.0 twin pack that will make them appealing compared to 5.0.

eventually they will, the week the 12’s come out….lol

khariVMember since Dec 2014

Didn’t someone somewhere say that this saw had a fair amount of twist / drift over the full length of the cut?  I’d love to get my hands on one to see if it does indeed cut fully square across the full slide range before I plunk down the $$$.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Toolaholic mentioned the tracking being poor on beveled cuts because the head spring is so stiff. The actual deflection from the standard position seems middle of the pack according to toolpig, but is worse at the fence, because like the Bosch glider, the rail system is reversed. I’ve seen several other sources confirm this.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

That’s the thing with Milwaukee they love to throw in something to make you want to buy it.

I think that’s their pricing strategy. Price at the higher end of the mass produced tool market to give them a more premium presence and a healthy margin cushion which affords them the ability to do bundles or throw ins to sweeten the deal.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Perceived value is a hell of a drug lol.

Sure enough……

Worksipaddict measured for deflection, I think just angled Though and not beveled and didn’t see any deflection:

I’m a toss-in battery away from splurging on two mitre saws lol. I need to remind myself I only need one and can use that money on other tools.

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

The saw is up on HD’s site for preorder now. I had a 10% coupon for my HD CC so I got it for $540 and picked up a 60t diablo blade and the Milwaukee miter stand while I was at it. $540 with two 9amp batteries is pretty good in my book.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

I would definitely jump in for that. Here $600 is what it costs for 2x HD9.0 and a rapid charger. $900 kit, in this hypothetical Canadian twist on your deal I would be looking at a $210 mitre. I would pull the trigger on that, like I said; perceived value is a hell of a drug.

Nice, I think that second battery might sway someone on the fence

Yeah, I already wanted to grab a rapid charger too so it seems like a good deal to get that and a couple of 9 Ah batteries. Kinda funny but those two battery’s combined 18Ah of juice are more than all current M18 and M12 capacity combined 😉

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

I got the stand and a diablo 10″ 60t finish blade delivered. The blade was packaged in a big box with tons of packing material that could have shipped 100 blades inside and the stand’s box looks like it went through hell:

That being said the stand is fine and built like a tank. I haven’t seen too many actual in depth reviews of this stand even though it has been around a while. No aluminum anywhere and looks like all steel everywhere except the red end caps. The steel quick release attachements for the saw are really nice and clamp on tight with a single tab on each side. They even adjust so if the tabs loosen over time you can snug them up to give a secure fit to the rails. The rollers are nice and even have a little shelf below so you can rest lumber on them instead of the roller making them function as an end stop. It’s pretty heavy and might not appeal to everyone but like I said it is built like a tank and very sturdy, 550 lbs. capacity, with one adjustable foot on one leg so you can quickly level it out on an uneven surface. The legs have beefy retention pins with big round red pulls so you can easily release the leg for deployment or take it down quickly. For me its just about perfect because I wanted a decently sturdy stand so I can quickly set it up in the garage most of the year to keep sawdust out of the house or use it in the basement in colder months. Now I just need the saw 😛

Just checked out the dewalt dhs790…. lets hope Milwaukee does better….. on the dewalt same hard head spring, crappy sticky slides and when I lowered the head all the way down the blade contacted the base of the saw.

I thought it was very similar to the highly regarded DWS780? That being said these cordless saws keep the batteries near the motors so the springs need to do more work than corded equivalents with the extra sprung weight. It might be worse for the Dewalt’s spring though having to support two batteries.
