It’s not going to be a table saw as metabo have a 36v table saw

I think it is odd that Dewalt is getting so angsty about early release information companies will often intentionally peak snippets into the media to help build excitement and anticipation. Having a heavy handed approach to fans of the brand who are excited about an announcement seems a way to create negative feelings and sentiment towards a company rather than building excitement and positive forum banter. I find it rather an odd approach to fan/customer relations.

I have needed to upgrade my larger tools for awhile. I LOVE my Bosch 12v tools but still need an 18v/20v setup. Had some 18v Bosch and loved the impact but hated the saw. Sold it. Been a long time Dewalt fan but haven’t done anything yet…anxiously waiting to see if this is the push I need to go into the 20v line.

What are you trying to say here? Dewalt won’t be releasing a cordless table saw because of Metabo? I mean it’s in the video, it’s happening whether you think so or not.

As for the grinder size I didn’t literally mean a 4in grinder, I think of it more as a “class”, where a 4in grinder runs anything between 4in and 5in blades. That looks like a update for the 20v tool to me but brushless, or like I said it’s freaking huge if it’s 7in.

No I mean it won’t be what they are classing as ” worlds first”

In that case you’re thinking about it the wrong way. The table saw is part of this release, and it for sure is a world first in ways the Metabo can’t even fathom.

What do you mean ? All I’m saying is a few people on hear are saying this worlds first thing may be a cordless table saw and I was just saying it won’t be as metabo have one and that means it’s not worlds first that’s all

I don’t even think Metabo was first with that, the 8 in 1 workshop beat it I think. Won’t be the first cordless, you’re right about that.

Yea, the conversion against 3 different voltages for 18v vs 20v is going to get rather confusing while discussed at length on the forums.

Just think you will all have your answer in 3 1/2 days or is it half a week??

Oh my gosh how are you ever going to stand the suspense???

Is the release going to be 9 AM Eastern or some other time?? It doesn’t really matter to me, I will be at work busting my butt until 4 PM so that I can buy whatever toys I want. I expect the team red fans to hate it, declare it a P.O.S. and a knock off of somebody else’s idea. Meanwhile team yellow will begin praising the concept. I am hoping whatever it is is, comes out of left field and is a better mouse trap. I hope all this speculation will end up giving them ideas for the next “big” thing…

StercorariusMember since Dec 2015

Can we get NPR booted off the air for a live audio broadcast of this event instead? I don’t think I’m going to accomplish anything at work next Wednesday.

Ha ha yeah team red will hate it I like that lol but maybe with all the led lighting they have produced recently they will just say they saw it coming !!

So I found this interesting and something that I had not heard of before. This is NOT leaked information. This is merely a link to Amazon.com for a item they will be selling soon. Enjoy

This is exactly what I’ve been calling for. I’d wager that this here has the capability to do something that nobody sees coming. What if this right here, with a 4 bank charger, was capable of using 1 battery to run the generator to charge 3 batteries or 1 extra to charge all 4? It’s the missing link in all of the cordless industry, the charger is still tethered to the wall. Well what if it wasn’t?

Dewalt is blowing my mind every day, I keep thinking this is it, nothing more to know…boom! just kidding. I’m stoked at the potential to finally have a completely cordless jobsite from screwdriver to 12″ SCMS. I bet the rest of the tool manufacturers are shitting their 5th pair a jeans this week.

Not sure I follow. You’re not suggesting it can basically charge itself…

Why shouldn’t it? It’s a 2 function system, 4 bank parallel charger AND portable power pack using 4 batteries in series. But what if there were a port to plug in another battery to charge the 4 batteries that are in series with one 20v battery, meaning cordless charging?

wildroamerMember since Apr 2016

Physics.

Hugh JassMember since Feb 2015

Keep in mind I may be mental on that note, pure speculation on my part. I just see Dewalt making a movement to completely go cordless across the entire spectrum of jobsite tools in one giant swoop, which leads to only one thing left that requires a cord…the charger. If it could be done, they should totally do it. The implications of not requiring a power source ever is massive.

Perhaps. I don’t know what kind of requirement would be needed to charge 3 or 4 batteries from 1.

wildroamerMember since Apr 2016

Never gonna happen. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. It can only be transformed from one form to another. The problem is, there is no such thing as a completely efficient transformation. Some of the energy gets transformed to another form, that is not the goal. For example, heat.

wildroamerMember since Apr 2016

Otherwise, for example, you could charge an electric car by going down a hill, then use that charge to go back up the hill, and so on and so on, never stopping. Impossible.

wildroamerMember since Apr 2016

Not saying it wouldn’t be awesome, however! Maybe Dewalt and Milwaukee got some alien tech or something!

Hugh JassMember since Feb 2015

That wasn’t what I was implying, but that might be the reality of it anyhow. I was thinking more along the lines of an actual generator. If 4 20v batteries in series can run a saw for instance because of the step up from the generator, why wouldn’t one battery be able to run enough charge from the generator to power a few chargers? Maybe I’m nuts I don’t know.

EDIT: If a 12v source is enough to run a charger for instance. Put an inverter on a 12v source and you can run a few chargers from the same source. No?

wildroamerMember since Apr 2016

Sure. You just won’t get the same amount of power out, as you put in. You can’t use one 12v source to charge 3 of the same. That would be creation of energy.

That is essentially what regenerative braking does. Like you have noted, with anything you won’t have 100% efficiency. Going down hill might provide 70 or 80% of the energy needed to get up the next hill. On old school electric railroads, the Virginian was one that was partially electrified, when a train went down hills and engaged the regenerative braking it actually sent current into the system instead of consuming it.

If it has 1 battery turning a generator, then that energy coming out of the spinning generator goes into other batteries, how much energy could the first battery produce? If that makes sense.

According to physics apparently, always less than 100%. I guess I’m thinking about some kind of amplification that isn’t possible. I must be missing something about watts, current, etc… that has influence on the duration of time the original source can produce power to continue the charge.

On the extreme end, take this inverter for instance:

[External image (www.rvhvac.biz), not copied]

A little extreme for this example, but for demonstration sake. The source of this inverter is 12v, I could plug this into my truck and it would run until the fuse was exceeded (10A or 15A I’d guess), but it would do it all the same. So then is it a limitation of battery size that prevents you getting enough out of the system? The draw on a battery charger is very small, even with 4 of them it’s not very much. Why would a 20v battery not sustain the length of time to charge the batteries? Or I guess I could make it more simple even, if I used a 20v battery to run a single outlet inverter to charge another 20v battery, the second battery would never reach full charge? Meaning the 4 in series would never reach 25% charge before death?

Seems goofy even though I think I get it.

What the hell is that chainsaw looking thing though? Is it chain or a giant reciprocating saw?

Also spotted a hammer drill, wondering if they’re going to 1up the new 20v releases already.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

I’m not sure, it is really hard to tell. Kind of a cross over like tool? Also that circular and miter saw looked pretty sweet. And maybe the recip will be brushless? I’m sure there is more but as long as we keep seeing it from Dewalts own leaks…..leak away! I for one am pretty stoked to see where yellow is going!

It’s known that the entire line is 100% brushless.

Hugh JassMember since Feb 2015

Did more digging, and I’m shocked by this one. It’s a reciprocating hybrid saw that cuts different material based in the blade installed. Even masonry! Looks to be 5 or 6 different blades for different materials, very cool.

energy is not created or destroyed it can just be transferred from one thing or another or you can change the form. A battery can only charge anything to a maximum of the amount of energy it has stored. Any time you transfer the electrical energy some of the energy will be become heat sound etc and will be lost . It is impossible to design a 100% efficient system because as soon as you have any heat friction etc you are losing your energy. If you could charge 2 batteries off one you pretty much have a magic system and no one would ever need petrol nuclear power etc again if Dewalt achieved Tha they have both broken physios asked pretty much solved most of the worlds problems

I don’t think anyone is suggesting Dewalt have created an infinite energy loop. Guys are just trying to figure out what it means to have 4 batteries as a power source.

To all, there is no doubt that this will either be charged from a powerpoint or contain a generator. The big question is whether t will have its own inbuilt batteries AND be able to somehow use 4 batteries when it’s empty(?) or whether the 4 batteries are the primary power source.
