Bosch CM12SD – 12″ Dual Bevel Slide Miter Saw

Bosch CM12SD

Let’s get real.  We all know that Bosch makes some of the best Miter saws on the market and the new CM12SD isn’t any different.  Now don’t get confused with the GCM12SD as the G model is their Axial Glide saw.  This saw rides on rails.

So what’s new about this saw?  The main thing is this saw offers more capacity for cutting trim or molding.  This is a huge plus especially when you’re dealing with Crown Molding.  So how did they do this?  Bosch moved the gearing up a little higher which allows taller pieces of wood to be placed against the fence.  Besides increasing cut capacity, the saw is very easy to use and read.  The saw has all metal bevel lock lever for quick and easy changes.  There is a turret system that allows you to set the bevel cut by simply moving the turret and locking in the bevel lock.  So no longer do you have to reach behind the saw. The detent turret system is set to 22.5°, 33.9°, 45°, 47° for quick settings.

This saw has an integrated base extension which extends and supports up to 40 inches.  I have to say this saw seems to be very accurate, not that I should be surprised.  But quick checking seems like the saw cuts precise every time. This saw also has slot miter detents at 0°, 15°, 22.5°, 31.6°, 45° left right, 60° right.  Again, one item I really like is how easy it is to read the scales.  There are large dual-bevel and miter scales for easy setting and reading with miter angles of 0-47° left and right.    Another feature of this saw is the electric brake.  Speaking of features, this saw has a crown lock.  Just flip a lever, move the saw into position and you have the perfect distance for your cuts.

The motor produces a no load speed of 4,000 rpm and weighs 65 lbs.  As with the other Bosch saws, everything in red means this is something you can move to make an adjustment.

So the low down on this saw.  Bosch, as usual, did a great job with the design and implementation of this saw.  I always try to find some kind of negative, but with this saw, it’s hard to find anything I would complain about.  The saw is simple, provides a large cut capacity, easy to read and since it’s from Bosch, you know it’s tough and dependable.  What else do you really want in a saw?  Well maybe a laser.

  1. Would love to get a beast like this in my garage, such an awesaome saw,and the Bosch gravity stand is super sweet.

  2. Eric I am with you on the Bosch saws. I have the GCM12SD and it is a awesome saw. The glide motion is incredibly smooth and it was dead on out of the box. It does not have a laser but I am ok with that. Great review.

  3. This Bosch saw like their glide saw is a great saw. And it would make any diy’er or pro proud to own one. When you combine it with their gravity stand it’s an award winner. When I use it, I just love the quality. #tiacrew @Boschtoolsna

  4. I had one 2 years ago and it was a really lovely saw to use. I would say there were 2 minor drawbacks.
First was that it feels quite bulky to carry around up stairs etcs, I dont know if is actually heavy as much as a bit awkward. (the same reason I sold my 12 inch hitachi, nice saw but not really job site practical)
The second was that used to go everywhere, its not complaining that there was saw dust, all saws have saw dust, but is ejected in totally random directions out the front, out the sides etc and in a less controlled manner out the back than some other saws.
In actual cutting operation it is a lovely saw, and the glide is even nicer but the glide is really only a stationary workshop tool because of the weight

  5. I am currently in the market for a 12inch compound sliding (or gliding) dual bevel miter saw. I will need it in about 2 months for a major rehab project. Would you be able to do a review/ tool fight of the major brand miter saws in that time frame. The knowledge I have gained from your videos have influenced a number of my purchases and would love your help on this next large one. I only want the best if I am spending this much money.

  6. I have the Dewalt 12in miter but I wish I bought this one. I love the hole stand and the features this miter has. It’s an awesome saw. Love the Bosch saw #tiacrew
