SC 6WL-22 vs SC 30WL-22: Know the Difference

Hilti makes three cordless circular saws in the Nuron lineup, and we’ll talk about the third one later. But these two are the main ones we are focusing on. Both run the same Nuron battery and brushless motor platform.

The SC 6WL-22 is a standard circular saw with a 6.5 inch blade built for general cutting and detail work. The SC 30WL-22 is a worm drive style saw with a 7.25 inch blade designed for heavier framing and ripping jobs.

The SC 30WL-22 is engineered to deliver performance comparable to a traditional corded worm drive saw, with the rear handle and sight line that makes ripping easier. It’s not a traditional worm drive mechanism, but it’s designed to perform like one while using modern brushless technology.

If you’re doing general carpentry and detail work, the SC 6WL-22 is your saw. If you’re doing framing, larger rips, or work that demands that worm drive style approach, the SC 30WL-22 is the better choice. Both use the same Nuron battery system, which is what makes Hilti saws compete at a different level.

SC 6WL-22 Cordless Circular Saw for Wood

The SC 6WL-22 is the straightforward choice. Standard circular saw design with a 6.5 inch blade that handles general wood cutting up to 2.3/8 inches deep. This is the saw you grab when you’re doing typical carpentry, crosscuts, and detail work.

It’s well balanced, which makes a real difference when you’re working with it all day. Light enough to handle easy but solid enough that it feels like it can actually do work. That balance is what makes it so good for quick cuts. You’re not fighting the weight, so you can focus on the cut itself.

The base adjusts for bevel cuts up to 50 degrees, and the plate and bevel adjustments are smooth and easy to lock down. The rafter hook folds away when you don’t need it or flips out if you’re working overhead. It keeps you from dropping the saw and lets you use both hands for the workpiece.  Plus it’s great to hand off your saw horses after a cut.

The dust collection is built in. You can hook up a vacuum to the dust collector port and work pretty clean. No dust everywhere when you’re cutting indoors or in tight spaces.

SC 30WL-22 Cordless Worm Drive Saw

The SC 30WL-22 is built for heavier work. The 7.25 inch blade handles cuts up to 2.37 inches deep at 90 degrees and 1.93 inches at 45 degrees. That bigger blade and the worm drive style design make it the better choice when you’re ripping lumber or doing framing work.

The worm drive style puts the motor positioned differently, which gives you a better sight line down at what you’re cutting. You’re looking straight down at the blade and workpiece instead of looking from the side. For rip cuts and production work, that changes everything about how you control the cut.

The rear handle is key. It gives you real control when you’re pushing through heavier material. Top handle and rear handle together let you manage the saw with authority. When I’m doing long cuts, that rear handle is exactly what I need.

Here’s what I love about this saw: the slide switch for locking and unlocking. You unlock it once and leave it unlocked through your work. No need to press a button before every cut. You just go. I wish more saws did this. It’s the little things that matter when you’re in a rhythm cutting, and this saw gets it right.

At under 12 pounds with the battery, it’s still manageable for all day work. The power delivery at 4700 RPM is engineered to work like a corded worm drive saw but with better heat management, so you can push through bigger jobs without bogging down.

This one’s simple. If you’re doing general work and quick cuts, the SC 6WL-22 is your saw. It’s light, well balanced, and gets the job done without overthinking it. You’re moving fast and the saw moves with you.

If you’re doing ripping, framing, or production work where you’re making long cuts and need real control, the SC 30WL-22 is the better choice. The rear handle, the sight line, and that unlock switch make repetitive cutting easier. You get into a rhythm and stay there.

Both use the same Nuron battery, so you’re not buying into different ecosystems. Both get the job done. The choice comes down to what kind of work you’re doing most often.  If you want my opinion, buy them both if you are in the  trades as you will have days you will be ripping and other days you won’t be.  Nice to have the best too for the job.

The SC 30WR-22: Another Option

Hilti makes a third circular saw in the Nuron lineup: the SC 30WR-22. It’s a standard circular saw, similar in design to the SC 6WL-22, but with a larger 7.25 inch blade that lets you cut deeper. Max cutting depth is 2.75 inches.

The difference is the blade position. The SC 30WR-22 has the blade on the right side. The SC 6WL-22 has the blade on the left. If you prefer a standard circular saw layout and like blade right positioning, the SC 30WR-22 gives you more cutting depth than the 6.5 inch saw.
