Ridgid Cordless Vacuum Review

Let’s face it, no matter how well you perform your job, if you leave a mess, that is what the client will remember.  It’s important to clean up after you are done, but we all know this can be a pain.  We have to grab the large 5-gallon vacuum, haul it inside and mess around with the cord.  For those small messes there might just be a better solution so let’s jump in and check out the Ridgid cordless vacuum review.

Ridgid Cordless Vacuum Review Overview

Ridgid Panel Light ReviewRidgid isn’t the only manufacturer of a cordless vacuum.  In fact, all the major power tool brands offer some type of vacuum in their line up.  Ridgid now has two different vacuums on the market which both run off their 18V battery platform.

Ridgid offers a 3-gallon vacuum model WD0319 and this vacuum which is the R86090B. The vacuum we are covering today is more traditional to a Dust Buster but with a wand and other accessories.

The vacuum is a three piece vacuum consisting of the battery, the housing and the canister.

The Ridgid handle is your traditional Ridgid grip that has a nice rubber over-mold and is comfortable in your hands.

To turn the vacuum on or off, there is a trigger you can activate with your finger.  Once you pull the trigger, the vacuum is on and you no longer need to hold the trigger down.

The vacuum comes with three attachments.  The attachment above is the crevice tool and the extension.  Unfortunately, the vacuum only comes with one extension so some people will find themselves bending over more than they want.  I really wish it came with an extra extension for the taller people.

The crevice tool is great when you want to get into tight spots or clean along a baseboard.

The floor sweeper does a decent job and I like the rollers.  While the unit doesn’t hold a lot of water, I really don’t think it’s meant to.  This is for those quick spills or those times someone tracked snow in the house and didn’t wipe their feet.

The canister is large and will easily hold a fair amount of debris before you need to empty the unit.  To empty the unit, there is a latch on the front.  Pull the latch and you are ready to empty the unit.

The vacuum has a decent filter which is easy to remove and clean.

Ridgid Cordless Vacuum Review Performance

For the size of the vacuum, it does a great job.  Now it’s not going to compete with your 5-gallon vacuum, but it’s not meant to.  The vacuum is powerful enough to pick up small screws and small pieces of wood (as long as they fit into the nozzle).

If you are installing an outlet and you cut wire and plastic and it lands on the ground, it will easily pick this up and trap it inside.  For those projects where you go into a clients house, do some work and leave a small mess, this is perfect.

Ridgid Cordless Vacuum Review Value

While the vacuum comes as a bare tool, it’s hard to argue with an $80 price tag at The Home Depot.  You get a powerful vacuum with an extension rod, crevice tool, and a floor sweeper.  If you already own a Ridgid battery, it’s a great buy.  If you have to buy a battery and charger, I would make sure there are other tools in the Ridgid line that you can expand into to make it worth the extra cost.

Ridgid Cordless Vacuum Final Thoughts

Overall this is a great vacuum.  For $80 it’s hard to pass up.  Yes, it would have been a nice option to include an extra extension, but it’s not a deal breaker.  This is great for those small little messes where you don’t want to get out the big vacuum and try to find power. The vacuum is powerful enough for a small mess and clean up is a snap.

  1. Cordless is always good but I need a little more power for my truck. How does it compare to a corded vacuum? Nice review Eric.

    • I use it in my truck but only for quick clean up of the seats and floor. When I do a good cleaning of the truck such as under the seats, I break out my corded vac or my Milwaukee cordless since this was can’t really get under the seats.
