Bosch or Dewalt table saw

So i recently purchased the Bosch 4100 table saw. I had been up in the air with that one vs the Dewalt DWE7491RS with the rolling stand. After looking at the Dewalt again (store displays) the Dewalt seems to be sturdier and have a more reliable and consistent fence. I am debating taking the Bosch back to and getting the Dewalt. Any thoughts? Links to both below.

I dont know if its me or the table saw but I can never seem to get the fence to stay straight so that dewalt gear driven fence seems really nice.

I love my DeWalt. The fence system is amazing.

JimboS1iceMember since Sep 2015

yea the dewalt has a very good fence on it

I would buy the Dewalt on the fence alone.

I would say that too, but the fact that it is yellow and says DeWalt on it may have been a bigger factor in that.

Yes to the Dewalt. The fence is great.

I don’t have that model. I have the larger and older one, but the fence is the same.

Beyond the fence, mine has worked hard and continues to do so.

No complaints

Dewalt all the way 😉

I too have the older DeWALT (DW744), I do love it’s rack and pinion fence. It is definitely easier to adjust and stays parallel to the blade. The reason it may feel more stable is the fact the DeWALT is setting on 4 legs while the Bosch is on 2 feet and 2 pneumatic tires while the saws are set up. The Bosch on the other hand may be easier to set up. The one complaint I have heard about the newer DeWALT saws is the noise level. I haven’t  heard a 744 setup next to a 7491, so I can’t really compare the noise levels.  A little research finds the older saws like mine and the Bosch spin at 3650 RPM, while the new saws turn at 4800 RPM or about 30% faster. It probably makes for smoother cuts and feels like more power at the same feed rate, after all it is taking smaller bites but a lot more of them.

Dewalt. Rich the Bosch is a good saw, I like Bosch, but Dewalt is all over that Bosch. The fence is amazing. If you’re in for a compact saw I was running the small Dewalt, sold it for the same price I paid for it when I got my Sawstop but that little machine was an awesome saw. I ALMOST when’s with the Bosch but the JLC did a great comparison that swayed me.

I know the first one from this is carpentry is relative to the smaller table saw but the reading on the Dewalt is pretty good, hope this helps, Chris

I have the 7491 and can testify to it’s quality of build and cut. Great saw.

rrich1Member since Jun 2015

Thanks for the links. I think this is a big contender for me now. I can push it against the wall/garage walk out door. Be a lot more stable and a lot more of a table.

Well there you go. If your going to step up from the contractor grade and step into woodworking and furniture building I have checked the Delta out and it gets a lot of good reviews. Also has a solid fence. Fit and finish is pretty nice and this was a real contender for me when I was in the market and truthfully it is a solid performer. The Ridgid saw is also very solid and well thought of but I was seriously looking at the Delta for the fence set up.

I love that delta that thing is pretty cool

Returned the Bosch and got this. For the same price I am getting a lot more saw and I have no real need to take the saw anywhere anyways so this should work out a lot better, just take up more space.

Nice choice going with the Delta. If you have the room and you don’t need to move it,  it’s better then the portable I would say.  You can now use Dado blades! That box does look pretty beat up though, make sure you check it out pretty well

The display unit had seen better days but I know it will be more than enough for me to last a long time.

Thanks. The Bosch would accept dado blades as well. Ya as I was putting it onto my dolly to move it into my garage the two silver cover bottom pieces fell out. Going to double check everything before I start putting it together.

Congrats on the saw. I think your going to be pretty happy. The mobile base on that is actually pretty sweet and I think if woodworking is your thing and it kind of sounds like it your going to be much happier with this one.

JimboS1iceMember since Sep 2015

I really do love that saw, its pretty much an entry level cabinet saw with the size of the table even though they call it a contractors saw.

overanalyzeMember since Oct 2011

Looks like a nice choice! Did you get it setup yet?

I got it mostly set up before I had to come to work, I’ll run home and snag a quick pick. I was trying to get the base to go Mobil and it was being finicky. I don’t think I had the wheel the right way. I was in a hurry to get into uniform so probably my fault.

I agree. Made it a no brainer if I was already spending the money on the bosch. This will allow me to roll it into the corner while no in use.

Actually, it looks about the size of the old school contractor saws from before the days of the compact job site saws. They usually had the motor hanging out on a bracket behind the saw versus inside the cabinet of a cabinet saw.

I bought the Delta from Lowes but I’m really kicking myself now. Its a great saw thats well built but I really wish I would have went with the DeWalt or the Bosch so I could store it downstairs when I don’t have a use for it. The Delta is always in the way. The way the wheels are set up its easy to move around the garage but I’m always moving it out of the way.

luckily for me i will be storing it against the wall. where the bosch would have been anyways. itll be in a corner so not so bad.

I do have a question for you or anybody else. The back side of the fence (opposite of the handle) scrapes against the cast iron top some. It has scraped away some of the finish on the bottom of the blade. The rails seem to be good and it doesnt do it against the wings and not all of the cast iron top. Is there a way to fix this? I was thinking of taking a playing card and putting it above the white plastic part that slides on that side to raise it.

Pretty sure there’s an adjustment on the back end of it, where it should ride on a rail on the back of the table. That’s how they all are I believe. Or the rail in back can adjust up a little

I’m with @KnarlyCarl and also check the front of the beisemeyer fence. Many time the adjustment screw are located by the clamp in the front and often take the form of a couple of Allen screws.

Here are a few pics. I have the fence adjusted fine except for the rear rubbing. I don’t see and adjustment unless these two screw will allow it to make some space somehow. You can see where it rubs on the bottom of the fence. I think a card between the white plastic and black metal piece would do the trick just fine.

Huh. Any advice in the paperwork? I’m sure you checked that first….. I wish I would have seen this sooner and checked my dad’s when i was there over the weekend

rrich1Member since Jun 2015

No. The delta instructions are apparently notorious for being awful. From my blurry pics you can see the rub marks to the right of the white plastic piece in the first pic.

I checked and I don’t have the rubbing issue with mine. Everything was pretty dead on from the factory.

sadfkjnbbMember since May 2016

I took another look at mine and the only way I can find to adjust it so it doesn’t rub is by using the two nylon screws in the front by the handle. By adjusting those screws I can get clearance in the back. Of course it puts the whole fence at a slight incline from front to back but I don’t see an issue with it.
