Why not right? We are plenty of beef jerky eating fellows so why not review some dried meat we endulge in and start some chatty, lots of brands out there and more and more coming.
So I’ll start off with Duke’s Original Recipe Smoked SHORTY Sausages

These aren’t bad, soft and tender but fairly dry. Flavor is similar to a summer sausage with the right amount of salt. Definitely worth a snack, I wouldn’t eat them regularly but from time to time these are pretty tasty.

Haven’t seen those around here. You probably got them at menards. It’s hard to beat the jerky I received from wigwag.

Got this from target, and no you can’t beat tommys jerky!
I’m ready to order another bag of jerky from tommys!! Gonna keep my eye out for that jerky.
Good call Jimbo leave it up to you youngsters to think up these good ideas LOL!!

So in the above picture, out of all of those, I like the teriyaki the best, ive always liked teriyaki jerky but Tommys takes it to another level of awesomeness. It was the best teriyaki jerky I’ve had. Ever.
The “mild” hickory was not mild for me, it was a pretty strong flavor, but I still really liked it, would get it again in a heartbeat.
The house blend was excellent, it seemed the most dry, but had a nice, mild, pretty much a standard beef flavor, good for someone who is not sure what to get.
The sweet and sassy was a little on the spicy side, but again that’s my taste buds, I’m more sensitive to flavors, and like mild over strong (coffee being the exception) The flavor did grow on me though, but it’s not for me. It’s pretty much self explanatory, sweetness and spicy in one. It has been awhile so I’m losing memory on how I would really describe the spice, definitely peppery, maybe a hint of barbecue as well.

Something red? I don’t know protool, do you need any led lightbulbs in your house? A welcome mat for your front door? Bath towels? Lol

Lol yah I guess I didn’t catch that part!
I love those blue diamond almonds! Another thing I’m a sucker for is cornnuts and flavor twists!

First off I have to say the flavor is great, very peppery but you get a little sweetness to it, maybe a small hint of beer but if I didn’t read the name I wouldn’t even know it was there. Texture is horrible, it’s too dry and tough, as attractive as the package is I would avoid this one. That flavor is great but that’s where it ends. [emoji107]

So here is the verdict…
Teryake: It has a slight sweet flavor to it, and has a bit of a tang too, and its tender and good.
Hickory: It deffinetly has a hickory flavor to the meat which reaminds me of the days when my father smoked salmon in the smoker box back in the day. Its also tender, easy on the teeth, and I like it too.
Dude I love the Blue Diamond almonds! My family has an almond orchard in California so I always have plenty of almonds around the house! Have you ever tried Blue Diamonds Habenero BBQ almonds? Those are my favorites.

This is some good stuff here, pretty tender, good amount of moisture to it, it’s not wet but not over dried. Flavor for this variety is great, starts off a sweetness with a hint of orange and goes into a firery finish. If you don’t like spicy I would seek out some other flavored but this is some really good stuff!

I’ve had the original but these are definitely better. Same drier texture but it’s a good texture to it, pretty tender. This stuff has some heat though you won’t be disappointed, almost taste a little horseradish as well.

I just tried the regular flavor of the Duke smokies. They weren’t bad but just seemed to need a little more flavor profile for my taste. I did like the smoke flavor. If these are better I’m going to have to try the hot and spicy now!

Higher quality jerky from Jack links, thicker but more tender. Good average moisture. Flavor isn’t the greatest, over salty even though it’s teriyaki. Makes the mouth water a little, for the price there’s better out there.

Original, pepper, bacon
This little bag was 5.99 at a gas station
Might be worth a try but definitely only an occasional treat at that price.

Y’all know know I am not a negative person right? But I have to disagree on any Jack suggestions. I am a cat that will keep my personal opinions to himself. If you like how it tastes thats cool with me, cause in the end that is all that matters. Besides, Jerky is a personal preference, some like moist and chewy, but some folks including me, like it dry and pack it in like chewing tobacco LOL.

Love to hear your thought on jack links, negative or not! Thats the beauty of this forum and thread, what is it about Jack’s you don’t care for?
You are a very positive person indeed Mr. Wigwag, having been through your fair share of cloudy days, and seeing the silver lining beyond, so I believe you of all people are definitely entitled to disagree on a subject we know you are well versed in. Maybe you know something about Jack’s we don’t, I like getting input from different backgrounds and experiences, good or bad, so lay it on us!

First off, my favorite Jerky was King B, I grew up in Wisconsin. It’s hard to explain, the area I grew up in, and the fact I am the youngest of 7 kids. With that being said, I am not good at expressing, explaining or telling a story using a keyboard. but here is a news article, and maybe we can talk using voice, instead of words. lol
Wow… That’s crazy, pretty sad story

[External image (uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com), not copied] With all of this jerky on the forum I decided to branch out with some jerky brands I’ve never tried before. Got this at Walmart. Pretty good really, just a good mildly moist jerky flavor. Not overly salty. The price per ounce wad cheaper than Jack Links. I like it, good stuff.

Wow @WigWagWorkshop that was quite informative, and sad, even ridiculous, but such is for the love of money….
I never cared for JackLinks stuff, could never quite like it much after the first few bites, maybe just where I bought it from, but i haven’t had any for years now…
Well time for updates!!

.
Found these at Menards, the world’s kitchen brand was 1/2 off for that size, and it still is possibly. I bought these Friday.
..
My least favorite. Smelled like a combination of fish food and dog food, plus it tasted like it too. Also is hit or miss pulling out a good piece one time and the next is bad. The few pieces that were decent pulled apart nicely and I could chew easily, OK flavor if you plugged your nose lol… Then the next piece was wafer thin and tried to cut your mouth up when biting into it.
[External image (farm9.staticflickr.com), not copied]
..
Next up is jack link’s Matador
It’s OK, I don’t like the dry crumbly combination of beef and pork, but at least it didn’t leave a nasty waxy aftertaste in my mouth like their regular beef jerky does. Not for me, I want strips of beef. Flavor was lackluster too
[External image (farm9.staticflickr.com), not copied]
…
My favorite of the three, plus they had 1/2 off so I got two and I’m glad I did. Pulled apart great, just how I like it, ever so little pepper kick to it but I really like it, no tough parts, I was able to chew everything without a spot of sinew or whatever it is that I hate running into, always have to spit that out.
Delicious, but not quiteTommys!

Don’t remember the brand but the stuff I get at the ranch and home is the best. Wanna say it comes out of Idaho or Montana. Also found a great (be it expensive) brand that I loved even more that is made in Idaho at a gas station. Wish I could remember the brands. I’ll have to pick some up again. Another brand of spicy venison sticks that I can’t remember that I can’t get enough of even though I’m not the biggest fan of the taste. I’ll do my homework and get back to you.
LOL, Trails Best – the dog treats of the Jerky world, actually my brothers dog, wouldn’t eat it, and that dog is like a garbage disposal.

Yes, that is well put! I had to throw most of the bag out, pretty nasty stuff, just couldn’t stomach it…
Also that World’s kitchen brand is on the sweet side I would say
Time for some more Tommy’s ….
Funny I was just thinking of ordering some jerky the other day, was talking about it at work

I like really dry jerky that shreds into delicious strands. I used to have a source years ago of the perfect jerky and haven’t found anything that’s half as good since.

That is the style of jerky I enjoy most also. Guess that’s why I dislike 99% of store bought bag jerky, it’s way too moist
WigWagWorkshop wrote:

Yea, I like it nice and brittle, with a bit of heat. I settle sometimes for jack links sriracha, but as said just too much moisture for me to really love it.
For moist Jerky, I lay it on a rack in my mini fridge, for a few days to dry it out.
Unfortunately my 2 favorites are somewhat hard to find near me.
1) Taylor Beef Jerky, they were sold in local Shell stations for years but haven’t seen them in a while.
2) Roberson Hickory smoked Jerky, they are sold at Love’s Truck Stops under Love’s brand, there is a Love’s about 1/2 hour away and when I can I grab some but doesn’t seem often enough.

Man that looks delicious. This thread has me drooling, need some jerky asap.
I get mine from the butcher shop down the street. All those store bought ones taste like dog treats. Have a good recipe for homemade using the oven to dry it its just kind of pain so never do it lol
My favorite jerky comes from a butcher shop as well. It’s the best iv ever had. It has good flavor and is nice and thin.
