Most of the Ryobi stuff I have is power tools, so I guess this is where this vid should go. Did a quick run-around to show my Ryobi stuff, and yes I shot it vertical. Oops, sorry…
Nice collection. I just bought my step dad a Ryobi 18v one+ combo kit to get him started.

Great Video! Thanks for letting us see around your shop. I’m curious about your hanging system for the power tools. Have you made a video or described how you hang your tools that way? I really couldn’t make out from the video what was going on there. False Batteries screwed to cabinet?
I can go out and make a video on how it’s done. Basically it’s old NiCad batteries that I strip out the battery cells. I then drill a couple of holes in the shelf and drive some drywall screws through and into the battery shell.
That makes complete sense now that you say it. Thanks for the info!
I have a short vid on the way…
Nice videos Kato, I like the hanging system. You definitely have a love for the Ryobi tools lol. Very nice setup.
Nice collection Kato. I have the same planer and have never had any problems with it. I think that they have stopped making it.
Great video Kato! True Ryobi nation right there!
Something tells me you would be the guy to ask which Ryobi 18v tools use the same batteries? Do the older blue tools still work with the 18 one+ batteries? I go to auctions frequently and I would like to pick up tools that work with my step dad’s kit.

Pretty sure they all can be used with any of the batteries
All batteries work with all tools, new and old…new tools work with older batteries, new batteries work with older tools. Best part is that if you have older “blue” tools, they will definitely run on new Lithium batteries. This is one of Ryobi’s biggest draws…that you never have to worry about switching battery platform like all other brands
I had heard that but I wasn’t sure. Thanks

That’s the best thing about ryobis is they didn’t change their battery style
My own little Ryobi show off:
Sweet video, I haven’t seen that thickness planer… that still floating around or do they have a updated green version?
Nice set of tools and a nice setup you have there thanks for sharing
From a fan of tools with lots of assistance from Siri #TIACREW
Nice shop set up Kato. I recently picked up the ryobi sander that TIA reviewed recently and I’m very happy with it. How’s that air strike nailer holding up?
I don’t think they make the thickness planer anymore. It’s still on their site but it’s not at HD anymore. They might be making a new one, who knows. Sometimes they are really tight-lipped about product coming out so you never know what’s up their sleeves. If you were interested in one I’d head over to HD and see if they had any left in stock, they might, and it’s a great planer. I have the Ryobi 1/4 sheet sander, this one is the seoncd one after a recall they had. Always liked using it, and never had any problems. I’d like to have an ROS but for now the 1/4 sheet has done fine for me. I have a Skil belt sander that’s crazy good, so if I need to remove a lot of surface quick I use that.
The AirStrike is doing great, just used it last night. Made a little iPhone holder to mount to a tripod
Kato, how is that little stapler? Do you think it would do good for upholstery? Also awesome videos.
That’s a lot of what I used the stapler for, putting new upholstery on our kitchen chairs, on office chairs, etc.. It takes staples and 18g nails, so it does have some versatility…
Edit: Forgot to mention, it runs a lot better with the Lithium batteries versus the NiCads.
Great vid & tools Kato !! Thanks !!

Thanks Kato, I’m thinking about doing a chair build (Morris style) and will end up upholstering it myself. I’d like to use something along those lines as opposed to tacking stuff in.
If you can find that nailer/stapler and have batteries it’ll be perfect for stapling upholstery. I’m sure their AirStrike stapler is better but that’s gonna be more money. If you only plan to use it randomly then the old “blue” will be a better choice
Meh, it’s okay, if you’re into that sort of thing. It’s green for Pete’s sake, how nice could it possibly be???
It would be nice to have more depth but it does what I need it to do. If I need more depth I use the press to make the first 2″, then switch to the other drill. With the first 2″ made I can run the regular drill through without worrying about the hole being out-of-line…I use the press to make a “guide” as it were and then finish with the regular drill. So far it’s been perfect

Can’t complain about mine either! I love it!
Like I’ve said before, even being the die-hard Ryobi fan that I am, I kinda half-expected that it’d be sub-standard. I was very impressed with it, even after seeing quite a few “bad” reviews on it. The quill isn’t sloppy, it drills straight, the action runs smooth…that’s all you need. It has a great range of speeds, and I’m not bothered in the least by changing belt positions for speed changes, I’ve done that with almost ever drill press I’ve ever used. People bitch about it but I think if you haven’t done it you probably haven’t had enough experience with a drill press to bother using one.
Electronic variable speed is nice, but then your price goes up.

That sir is an ingenious idea!! I’ll have to keep that one in mind.
I’ve always thought that was a pretty sweet idea since the first pic i saw of your shop…only thing is you would have to accumulate A LOT of batteries, ones for hanging the tools and ones for running them!
I wish I had all of the shells but I threw some away. At one time I had 24 batteries, threw a bunch away before I had the idea to use them to hang tools.
Kato your shop and videos are awesome. Really enjoyed watching. Thank you very much for sharing.

Your old drills might qualify for a recall Kato they had a problem with the switches.

Thanks DR99, gonna send my two “blue” back and get them replaced. Just talked to the recall center about 20 minutes ago.
