I’m looking for a quality se t of 1/4″ hex drive nut drivers for an impact driver. They don’t necessarily need to be impact rated, but that would be a plus. Magnetic vs. Conventional isn’t a big deal. What I want is a set that has to come in a decent permanent case and include a broad range of both metric and standard sizes. These will mostly be used for hose clamps and assorted other low torque fasteners.
I have Tekton, they are fairly cheap I’ll grab you a link…

I second Jimbo. I bought the Tektons a while back and they have served me very well. I would have liked a magnetic set but for the money they have been outstanding.
TEKTON 2938 Quick-Change Power Nut Driver Bit Set with Detents, 14-Piece https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007BLZ7TK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_p-AaxbKE35P6Y
Can’t beat 5.99

What do you guys recommend for magnetic sets? A few of my cheap set have lost their magnets on the most used sizes. I have a few Dewalt that are good quality, but I don’t have a full set.

Milwaukee shock wave aren’t bad just never seen a whole set…

I only really use 1/4″ and 5/16″ but I wouldn’t mind a decent set. I will check out the Milwaukee set, red always looks better than yellow anyway!

Too bad they have a gun metal finish lol
Ok, the red case looks better than yellow wise guy! Haha

I’m running out of bubbles to bust, but they don’t come in a case either lol, but one of them has a red ring!
For HVAC work, we go through 1/4″ nut drivers like water, and Malco or Dewalt are the favorites here. Milwaukee looked promising, but I go back to Dewalt when they started to pop off easier and wear out quicker. This was using impacts.
I used to like Jimbo too… haha. I have been really please with my dewalt bits, I just wondered what others are using. I use the 1/4″ the most for my metal roof screws and self tapping screws. I also use the 5/16″ for self tapping screws and I believe the timber lok lags I used are 5/16″ as well. If I need another size nut driver I use a hex to nut driver adapter and a socket.

You can get a set of drivers with 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8 nut drivers in a case, but I don’t think Milwaukee make any other sizes, i could be wrong
When he said shockwave I pictured them in a Milwaukee red case like the bits come in.

Yeah I thought that’s what you meant, you can get the three nut drivers in a case, just not a full blown set like the Tektons, which are more for automotive work, which is what @Stercorarius is looking for, and I rarely need anything bigger than 3/8″ drivers, that’s the largest self tappers I use on a regular basis. But it would be good to have a nice set. I think for me, magnetic would be a requirement because of things I work on sometimes need the fastener to stay with me and not get lost down a piece of ductwork if I didn’t have a magnet…..

Ip guess you can, forgot you can get the 4 in the bit set, the ones I bought just came in a blister pack. They don’t have a full set or come in a holder like the Tekton set does.
Nice find, I would prefer them full size though (the five piece set), because it can be a pain to pull those little guys out of the adapter if they have a real good grip and they don’t want to let loose. I also don’t have to have a separate adapter to hold the bits in, they can just go in the impact. Also, there are times when I use the shorter guys, that after enough use, they will pull out of the adapter if they get stuck on the fastener, that’s another reason I like the full length shaft to go directly into my impact.
Personally is recommend a 1/4 hex to square adapter so you can use sockets you already own and that way you can use deep sockets too. That’s what I do with my impact driver
Looks like I should pick up that 45 piece set. I could use a few impact rated drill bits too. I have a Kobalt impact bit set, but the rest of mine are not impact rated. I have yet to buy any Milwaukee bits though since we have a Lowes in town and the closest HD is 35 min in either direction. We did just get a Family Farm and Home store that I saw Milwaukee bits in. I assumed they would be over priced compared to HD or Amazon so I didn’t really look too hard at them.

I use the little guys, don’t own the longer ones because I wanted the five sizes.

I have a hard time finding smaller skze impact sockets, what smaller sizes you use?

It’s a nice set but I don’t think it’s worth the regular price of 40 bucks, 15 dollars is about all it’s worth IMO.
Its $29.97 in your pic, are you saying they go on sale for $15 or do you mean they are overpriced for what you get?
I’m sure that sunex makes them but I don’t own any in 1/4 inch drive. Regular sockets are plenty strong for my 12v impact driver. I mainly use it for interior work or light duty stuff like stercorarius most likely would too.

I was referring to the Tekton kit I bought on Amazon warehouse deals.
I don’t think you can beat the Tekton set on price and quality.
If you don’t mind the pricing, I REALLY like my Wera nut driver bits. When you feel the weight comparison vs other nut driver bits you’ll understand the pricing. I only needed a couple and tacked it onto an order I was already placing so it wasn’t a problem.

But 40 bucks regular price? I could see 25, maybe 30 but 40?? The case could be a better quality plastic for that

I know, I know but man, if you saw the difference, you’d get the cost…they are VERY robust and have a very strong magnet. They make other nut setters feel like they’re made of plastic.
…But low torque applications, Tektons easily fit the bill. In fact, I’ve been thinking of picking them up for a while.

I feel like we are talking about different kits… You talking about Milwaukee? I was talking about Tekton…
Makita makes a 1/4″ drive impact set of 9 sockets for relatively cheap, ill see if I can find. Otherwise I have craftsman ones.
Makita T-02369 1/4-Inch Drive Socket Set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L2E2LHI/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_HSDaxbY50W6AS
Those Weras do look nice. So do the Tektons. I’m looking to use them for hose clamps, large self tappers and little fasteners on electrical access panels. Sockets are usually too big for hose clamps. I do like my DeWalt magnetic ones that I use for all of my tin screws, they just don’t offer that big of a range. I may have to grab that Tekton set with my next Amazon purchase.
Thats not a bad little set

He’s talking about his Weras, which he’s doing a stellar job on his sales pitch lol
Makes sense now! yes weras are worth the pennies for sure!!

Yeah, haha. I honestly love Milwaukee’s power tools but I’m completely turned off their hand tools and bits.
The Weras are ridiculously nice but I don’t totally understand why they’re soo beefy. I bet I could torque my 1/4″(nut size) bit to 150 ft lbs and it won’t break. WHO NEEDS THAT? …but I like it! haha. They are a little shallower than most, as in the nut can’t go as deep into the driver.

How much is that set?

A lot, $60. 🙁

You can sorta see how robust they are in the Vine.
Found a cheaper option $45: http://www.alliedelec.com/wera-05073495001-869-4-m/R1003284/
@Stercorarius you figure out which brand to buy?
If you haven’t found something yet, I think these are what you’re looking for: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000VHXD8I/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1460611713&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=B000VHXD8I[External image (uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com), not copied]
There’s two of each size, one magnetic and one hollow shaft. I have them in metric and they are beautifully made, comparable to if not better quality than my Wiha set. This is also the most complete set I’ve seen and the case is very nice.
