But Tiger tanks were way more expensive to make and not very mechanically reliable. The reason the Sherman worked was the fact you could build vast numbers of tanks fast. The US built 49,000 Shermans and almost 5,000 up gunned easy 8 tanks Germany only managed to make around 1,400 Tiger 1’s and 500 Tiger 2’s. The Sherman was far from perfect but you can’t beat those kind of numbers.
