Decent safety glasses

I am looking to upgrade my safety glasses soon and I wanted to know what you guys are using. My problem with the cheap ones I have is that they fog up when I wear a dust mask. I find myself not wearing a dust mask too often when I use my router because I can’t see. I made an air filter out of an old furnace blower and 3 furnace filters which helps cut down the fine dust and I have filters with the vent in them, but I don’t like blowing my nose all night after I work on a project. I also would like some that are somewhat scratch resistant. The last time I went to the range I grabbed a pair from the garage and when I got set up I noticed I grabbed a pair with scratches right in my line of sight. I don’t want to spend a ton, but I need to get something better then the $2 ones I have. Thanks

Hmmmmm. I use the cheap nemesis glasses almost exclusively. I wonder if some anti fog spray like you use on ski goggles and snowmobile helmets would help.

JimboS1iceMember since Sep 2015

I have a bunch of pics i got form my bosch nailers that are pretty good but i really like a pair of dewalts that wrap your face a little better, paid maybe 12 bucks for them on amazon.

BMack37Member since Sep 2015

I have only used 3M and Bolle…both have had fog problems. Thanks for posting this, I just realized I have some Oakley anti-fog that I bought for my hockey helmet’s half shield. I’ve found that the anti-fog sprays work ok if you apply them just before you use them.

JimboS1iceMember since Sep 2015

Yea my Wileyx sun glasses don’t fog but after the prescription for my glasses they cost about 350 with all the coatings and stuff

T75RMember since Jan 2016

I have been using these and no issues yet

Dano123Member since Feb 2016

Thanks for the input, I will try the Dewalts. Does Milwaukee make any by chance? They seem to have everything else… I will also look for some antifog spray. Wonder if a car windshield product would work? I feel like I may have seen a rain ex antifog product at one point.

I wonder if these will really work? They say anti-fog…

Old trick for antifog is clean glasses with pledge now and again.

I wear RX glasses so dont usually bother with safety glasses on top,but the top brands are usually  3M,Uvex,Elvex,Crews,Pyramex

I have some Uvex Stealtth goggles I wear when doing surface grinding and using cutoff wheels and such, best goggles ive found.

we stock these at work:  http://www.amazon.com/3M-Virtua-Protective-Eyewear-11872-00000-20/dp/B00RXH6L8S/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1457363891&sr=8-6&keywords=safety+glasses

all glasses fog, some more than others, just get what feels comfy. They have a bunch at HD you can usually tryout. to reduce fogging a respirator type of mask filter usually works better.

I think I’d try the windshield spray, the spray I have cost a lot…but it also says Oakley. I only bought it because there were reports of a delamination issue with using other cleaners on the shield, didn’t really verify whether it was a rumor or fact but didn’t want to risk it for the cost.

Dano123Member since Feb 2016

I will stop at autozone and see what they have. I am also going to run to lowes and get those 3m glasses to try. Unfortunately Home Depot is a 30 min drive for me, so I am stuck with Lowes most of the time.

Hey Fazz I have a big head so I was wondering how you feel the width on the Uvex Stealth goggles is. I wanted to get a pair but wasn’t sure how they would fit.

They are the best goggles ive ever used, ive tried others from Pyramex and such but they cant compare to the comfort the uvex gives. i think you will be happy with them. my head isnt small either 😉   I have the Amber lensed version –  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003U9VEAI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

Can wear them all day comfortably and they can be worn under welding masks and such too.  I got the nylon case to store mine in as well i keep a few lens cleaning wipes in there to keep em clean.

they were $16 on amazon when i ordered them   the clear lense one is $13  right now on amazon –  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003U9VE94?dpID=41aVQ6ZJU3L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_SL500_SR150%2C150_&refRID=33RBN4V5K5A091DE587E&ref_=ya_od_pd_dx_mr_1

Is the dust mask part of the problem though? Or even the ones with outlet valve cause fogging?

It helps pinching the metal nose bridge tightly, get the ones with the valve too reduces hot breathe escaping from the top of the mask.

I use a pair Pyramex vg3 glass they have foam seal around the eyes that helps with concrete chipping or even fine sawdust makes a nice seal and it comes with a optional strap

I’ll probably pick up a pair of those pyramex glasses.  Sound like they work pretty good

Dano123Member since Feb 2016

I pinch the nose strap and I have the masks with the vent. I guess I am just full of hot air!

I have a pair of the dewalt goggles and believe or not the mike holms glasses they sell at HD work very well

Chase ShoffnerMember since Nov 2015

I use the DeWALT Crosscuts with the indoor and outdoor lens (DPG100). These are great safety glasses and as for the fogging with respirator…they do fog but it is easy to see with the fog compared to most cheaper glasses, These feel very nice and provide substantial shade for work outdoors. for under 9 bucks you can’t beat it!

i always have such a hard time buying safety glasses i can never find a good inexpensive pair

noopsMember since Mar 2016

My solution isn’t cheap but after trying maybe a dozen pairs of glasses and goggles I gave up and tried a different approach. I found those all gave me a headache. I have very good eyes and at the time (2010) the safety glasses were concerned about protection without caring about optics. My solution was Oakley. Their clear lenses are certified for shooting ranges and I’ve never had a problem on a job site. I can wear them all day without any ill effects. With others I’d usually start to get a headache as quickly as 30 minutes. I don’t like taking things on and off and on and…. I find that’s how things get broken or lost.

Aside from the cost I can’t think of any other cons. They’re light, different frames should enable something that fits you well and is comfy, great optics, and some frames have swappable lenses so you can get different lenses and use them for more than just “work”, and you can usually find good deals St an Oakley vault or online from there too. Cheap imitations are just that tho.

That’s not a bad idea, I switched from Oakley to Serengeti in sunglasses so I might look there also.

Does anyone make transition lense non RX safety glasses? My eyes are sensitive to light so I always have sunglasses on. I always buy the safety sunglasses at tractor supply so I am good outside, but I have to swap to clear usually when I come inside. I would spend some money on them if they made a decent set with transition lenses for sure.

Not safety glasses but Serengeti lenses darken/lighten based on light, it’s not as drastic as transitions…but they’re the only non-RX sunglasses I know of that darken/lighten. The optics are very good also, I like them better than Oakley and Maui Jim.

Best mechanics gloves? You got it. I’m a fan of the $15 fingerless style http://m.homedepot.com/p/Husky-Large-Fingerless-Mechanics-Glove-67123-16/203607124 but if you like full coverage go for the $20 pair http://m.homedepot.com/p/Husky-Large-Heavy-Duty-Mechanics-Glove-67113-16/203607118 if you want something a little more heat resistant and durable, but won’t padd your knuckles as much these are $25 and have to be shipped http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00547HCOG/ref=mp_s_a_1_17?qid=1458217260&sr=8-17&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=lincoln+electric+gloves As far as safety glasses go, these are my go to. $8 and are offered in any shade. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0007ZDHXU/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1458217371&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=nemesis+anti+fog+safety+glasses&dpPl=1&dpID=41i57YnNfdL&ref=plSrch

I like mine a lot, there’s also a coupon code for 15% off. Which I can find if you want. They keep restocking them if your size isn’t in stock, basically for the same price as the HF mechanic gloves.

Jimbo I liked those Milwauikee gloves you were wearing, do you think they would hold up working on engines?

They seem kind of think and like they would absorb and hold too much liquid, they have kind of a liner to them as well, so I would think after a few dips in motor oil they wouldn’t hold up.

Thankyou for the recommendations guys! Ya my old gloves are torn, and my old safety glasses are worn from use, so it be nice to have a new crystal clear pair. Bemack, those gloves don’t look like they offer me much for dexterity. Your opinion? I have to be able to grab small sockets, screw drivers, will those gloves you recommended work out?

I don’t think you’ll have an issue but it depends on how small you’re talking. Give me some examples and I’ll do some testing. They look pretty bulky but they fell a lot like baseball batting gloves.

I just put one of each glove on. Put a 6mm combination wench and a 1.5mm hex wrench on a smooth surface, could pick up either first try. The yellow pair has thinner fingertips so I could easily feel the hex wrench but I could have used it with the black/red pair also.

Their $4.97 a pair, shipping is $5.99, then comes your surprise $1.00 tax, so out the door I got them for $17.00. I would have preferred their shipping to be lower for just a couple pairs of light weight gloves but what can you do? I should be able to get at least 4 years between the two pairs, especially if I am careful and don’t cut the gloves on sharp objects or get corrosive agents on them lol.

Ive gone through a couple pairs of those they are nice gloves for a cheap price
