Smart phones are tools too right? I would think most on here use a phone so I wanted to share one I found. Cat or caterpillar has been making phones for years. And they are tough and not cheaply made. The newest one they came out with has a flier thermal imaging built in. And this past January they teamed up with Verizon wireless here in the US. I had the s50 for a couple days when it first came out, but AT&T shut me off cause it wasn’t a approved phone by them. Check them out guys.

thanks for the info stainless, i have the casio comando now which is mil. spec, but is getting quite old, and being casio got out of the phone business, i was wondering what choices i had, didnt really want to go to the “pretty” smartphones
these days it seems smart phones are main stream Samsung has a rugged model not sure it will fit the bill…
The phone is shockproof and IP68 certified, meaning it is dust and water resistant up to 1.5 meter and 30 minutes. It’s also MIL-STD-810G certified which means it can withstand salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shock.

I saw those a few weeks ago but I don’t think I could give up my iPhone I just like it too much
I wish my phone had thermal imagining! That’s an awesome idea to include it in a phone.
Looks like an awesome phone but I’m not sure it would be as capable as most other comparable phones
Cat has stepped up their smart phone game. The built in flir is awesome. Good thing I don’t need anything that rugged but glade their is opinions for people who really need them. What’s the price point for the S60??
Is there a price line on that phone yet?
Very James Bond-ish! I don’t know if the caveman in me could stray from iPhone…it’s the dumbmans smartphone.

I went from iPhone to Android back to iPhone, the reasons: The Apple app store, no major bloatware and the speed of charging. I like Windows 10 as a mobile OS but the app store is horrendous, just no support.
I have the rugged version of the S5 and it works pretty well. It can call, text, open Tapatalk, and run periscope.
I’m not sure if the 60 is out yet. But that flir is a really cool feature. I don’t think I would use it to its full potential. But it is nice to know that the technology is out there for the guys that could use it. It bugs me that most other phones are so brittle when you know they can be made so much better.
I would love to see more durable phones on the market. The amount you spend on them they should be. I like iPhones just because of simplify of use. I hate to say it but it just works for me.
This article says later this year with a price of $599.
I just worry about long term OS support as its really just some company selling the phone with CAT branding on it

Same here. Is it an Android based phone or do they have their own OS?
It’s probably some flavor of android with their own UI on top I bet
That’s my assumption as well, I really can’t imagine it not being Android.
I’m an apple whore, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad and Mac book air, they work together seamlessly which is really awesome. Had a bad experience with android early on in their life with an HtC, I’m sure it’s better now but why switch. Flir in that phone looks sweet would be pretty awesome to have.

I would define seriously consider one if they offered it with At&t.
did some research, its an android 5.0 [lolipop]. only proplem i ever had with android was with the carrier itself, verizon, they load it with a bunch of shit you cant take off, ubless you can can re-root it and unlock it.
If I didnt have a Samsung S5 already and didnt have to switch from Tmobile I might scope one out. S5 does everything I need it to do.
I know it’s still new yet, so maybe in a year or so we will hear more about it.
they all have their pro’s and cons…….when I had Apple I hated how they wanted to be my best friend by asking security info all the time……enter this enter that……I’m a small time guy in the middle of no where who the heck needs to get into my phone so bad….what is with so much security…….I’m happy to just pick up the land line and call someone but no one whats a phone call any more….our land line rings 3 times a week and 100% it is some kind of telemarketers ………..these smart phones are not phones anymore I don’t know why they call them cell phones…….dial this number remember that?……
I think there is definitely a limit to what a phone should do. But I guess they try to appeal to everyone so they add so many features.

I use one of those and I love it. Sometimes you have to get a tool that can stand up to the abuse instead of trying to baby it.

Phones don’t last a year, they have new models way too frequently.
I love the idea of the Cat phone, but Android is way too fragmented and support is terrible. Samsung may release 400 phones a year, but very few of those will ever see updates, and those that do are several months behind.
If Android got their sh!t together and stopped the manufacturers from releasing phones without proper support, or at least made the android experience consistent from device to device, they would own the smartphone world. They still can’t fix wakelocks after 8 years.
