They actually are, they beat fatmax in vertical blade length, they have self-centering and magnetic tips, and the new Powercontrol series completely prevents pinch points. Not to mention they can be double-sided, single-sided, and in whatever measurements you can imagine, from SAE to Metric to Engineering, and the numbers can read either vertically or horizontally, whichever you prefer. Quite literally the largest selection of tape measures in the world.

Yes, they just so happen to be sold by Apex Tool Group, and Lufkin is quite literally the #1 seller of measuring tapes in the world, just not all of them are the tape measures that the standard person would use.

like this guy had all this info on the top of his head just waiting to help someone about tape measures…….but he doesn’t want to talk about tools just get that 50% off code out there….

Lufkin: Not a Tape Measure for Standard People…..

what a tagline……..

Is it bad that I actually really have the urge to buy a lufkin now? I mean I knew I was susceptible to marketing ploys but didn’t know I am this susceptible. It’s not even what was said, I just need to know.

I know there are some that swear by them but the cost is not worth it in my opinion. You can better spend your money on other tools, in my opinion.

Love it, well done! Hello again friends! So since all my hard work and wonderful posts have been deleted, here is another reminder… 50% off great tools like this at store.apextoolgroup.com

Vertical blade length is a term that defines how long the blade can stand vertically before the tape breaks or bends (since all of you seem so knowledgable about the technicalities in products).

Example: Stanly Fatmax 25ft. has a 8ft length before the tape bends

Example: Lufkin Powercontrol Series 25ft has a 10ft length before the tape bends

So much hate, and yet “a deal is a deal”

Just out of curiosity, Stercorarious, where did you end up purchasing that wonderful Lufkin product from?

Love me or hate me, you can’t get rid of me!

Hey glad to see you’re still around partner. I picked it up at Lowes on my way to work. I’ll have to put it through some pretty intensive testing before I can comment on quality. I know that this is more of an entry level product so I won’t expect too much. As far as “vertical blade length” goes it is colloquially referred to as “stand out” among tradespeople. I’m confused as to why the self centering feature doesn’t go the opposite way so instead of me measuring and it telling me the mid point it should instead tell me what my measure is a midpoint of. E.g. if I wanted to center a 25 1/2″ chunk I would measure out untill the self centering side of the tape read 25 1/2″ so 12 3/4″. It really seems to be more likely to confuse me with two measurements than having to divide by two then add the fraction with the bottom number doubled to get the midpoint.

I’m a Fastcap guy. They make awesome tapes. I have a Milwaukee one, it’s nice. I also have a US made Stanley Bostitch Fatmax which is great. I keep a Kobalt tape in my truck which is actually a great tape too.

nothing ground breaking with a tape measure if you think about it if you find one that has the features you like your good to go, if it isn’t accurate it is pretty much useless……..

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Yeah that is true with the exception of the Fastcaps. I love e belt clip and the pencil sharpener built in plus the erase able scratchpad on the face of the tape. Works out awesome. Also I have the burn one tapes in metric and imperial. Great for laying out new pieces.

This doesn’t include the 25’er in my vest or the 12’er in my rain coat. Or the pile at home.

I have a drawer with at least 6 tape measures. Plus however many more I have laying around in other places. But my go to is the Stanley Fat Max 16′ and 25′. Probably close to a dozen or so tapes.

I have a couple of Tajima and Komelon tape measures. Both good value for the money. I never pay extra for a one with strong housing because that’s never the cause of a broken unit for me, it’s the ends that often break or it gets jammed up from rain water and sand/dirt in my cases.

35′ Stanly Fat Max for me too!!

StrippedScrewMember since Jun 2015

Quick questions guys. Did Stanley get rid of the Hi vis tape on the Fatmax extreme for the normal yellow tape? Reason I ask is because I was in the store today waiting to be served and was looking at the tapes and it seems the hi vis green is gone?

Interesting. Not the greatest but they were nice to have a few floating around for the price.

I’ve use a couple of Komelons and they were pretty decent. There’s just always a pile of 12 and 25′ Lufkins around the office.

For their price they are a no-brainer for me since I use my tape measures in all weather conditions, sand, dirt and even sometimes concrete gets stuck on it so I don’t believe a premium model would last any longer anyways.

No concrete on mine. Well, except for the concrete I drop them on. I totally understand the all weather conditions. Working in conditions where Rite-in-the-rain notebooks cry uncle can put the hurt on tapes.

overanalyzeMember since Oct 2011

Tried a bunch over the years. Keep going with Stanley FatMax. 25′ for framing and siding, 16′ for trim.

Milwaukee for me.

metaljunkieMember since Mar 2013

The best tape measure I have owned was a Stanley. It has long since died a long drawn out death due to mud and water since I used it in unfriendly conditions. Now a days I keep two or three cheap ones laying around because they have a habit of disappearing.

CATERPILLARMember since Jan 2016

i have a 25 ft milwaukee and a stanely and a couple hf tapes that i beat the shit out of 🙂 have a good one

comp56Member since Sep 2014

I have to say Milwaukee various lengths I have about 8 all over the shop……for some strange reason they all seem to gather on my computer desk in my office…..along with coffee cups…..seeings my coffee pot is upstairs in the kitchen I have a bad habit of grabbing a new cup when I walk past the pot…….

Just a reminder to not trust that HF tape measure, it’s off by about 3/8″ over a foot or something like that. It’s good for ball park measurements like “will it fit” but if you need to do anything else be careful.

FoneguyMember since Mar 2016

That’s the one that usually stays under the bathroom sink. The wife wants to see if furniture can be moved, she checks first.

Then we consider options…..

however I do like the end hook on the new Milwaukee ?

rrich1Member since Jun 2015

My new go to tape measure. Fastcap pro carpenter. I like using metric and this has both on it. Very easy to read with imperial numbers too. I have a flat faced one I like a lot as well. But this one will be replacing my Milwaukee, kamelon, and lufkin. I think the price is around $8 too. I forgot it even has a pencil sharpener on it.

You won’t regret it. They have another yellow one that has an auto lock feature as well. This one isn’t that one.
