I’m a huge fan of the Dewalt tapes, they have fractional numbers on them that make the job a lot easier, after that probably my milwaukees.

Sometimes you they just jump in your cart, I probably have just as many but when I’m working in projects I usually have a few laying around by each spot in working yet I still find myself reaching realizing all of them are in the same dang spot lol.

ya at my age it is cheaper for me to have a tape measure hanging at every tool station than to clip it on my belt……..basically i forget about it if I can’t see it…..

I have one in each tool bag. When I’m welding and have my welding gear bag with me I don’t want to dig through my other bags and get grease and manure over everything to get to my tape in my electrical bag. That and I’m a tool addict and I buy ones that are on sale to see if they’re worth their salt.

Ha, well I guess my job is just too clean then! Except for the times I’m in a trench fitting together sewer pipes. …. buuut I can see myself buying more tape measures in the future ☺

Fat max 35′ all day. But I also have the fat max 16′ and 25′ they just feel tiny after years of needing the 35′ for commercial skylights

I’ve dealt with cast iron septic pipes, never sewage pipes though. At least not human sewage anyways….

MillerzconstructionMember since Dec 2015

I like Stanley. Fatmax for long measures, Stanley levellock for everything else.

chadlanthierMember since Mar 2013

I have a Milwaukee in my pouch at the moment. Probly switching back to a fatmax or stabila. I have tapes in every corner of my truck and garage but never seem to find one when I need it most.

overanalyzeMember since Oct 2011

Stanley FatMax 25′ is in my tool belt always. For finish trim and cabinetry the 16′ FatMax comes out. At the shop we have a few different brands scattered around for general use.

LoganMember since Jun 2015

Mine is the fastcap tape measures

rcarnes911Member since Jan 2016

I have a bunch of old fatmax tapes I use, I also have a Bosch 75ft laser tape I use. I am thinking I need to replace the fatmax’s soon they don’t stand out like they used to

I grab either my Milwaukee 16 ft or 25 ft.  I do own several other brands but I normally go for the Milwaukee.

Im looking to get a Bosch GLM one of these days.

StercorariusMember since Dec 2015

The Bosch glms are nice, less so if you have shakey hands.

FazzmanMember since Apr 2014

I can imagine that would affect accuracy, good point. Note to self, dont use when old lol.  🙂

It really doesn’t matter though if you have something solid to butt up against.

Funny you started this thread. Was just looking into picking up a new tape measure and was debating between the fatmax and the DeWalt. Any suggestions?

Kamelon or Milwaukee

Can’t go wrong with a Stanley, they’re a staple in every tool belt. I can’t speak for DeWalt, but they do have a pretty good reputation.
krutonMember since Jun 2015

I generally just reach in and grab one. Here lately I have been using the Fastcap and the Bosch laser measurer.[External image (uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com), not copied][External image (uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com), not copied]

But in all seriousness are your lufkins actually that good? If you can sell me on them I’ll go buy a couple as I’ve never worked with one before. Never even seen one actually.

I’ve got a couple of Milwaukees and I’m trying to like them, but they just won’t stay securely locked. I like everything else about them, but the break loose too easily.

I have a Stanely Leverlock that is close to I bet 25 years old and it’s great, but starting to show it’s age.
