Ive noticed it has spring loose on the reciprocating shaft.  Have you guys seen anything like this before?  Hopefully the picture works…thanks.

looks like it may have broke and that is what is left of it.

Welcome to the forum, try ereplacement parts, they usually have just about everything.

It may just be there to help dampen the vibration of the shaft moving. You may not need it? I’d look it up and see if it’s something that you need. If not I’d just cut it off and keep cutting.

I agree you might not need it

Welcome to the forum Bem. I’d try Milwaukees site too. They have breakdowns of their tools so you can determine what the issue is.

Yea I’d get your hands on an exploded view.

I see. Try to repair this tool to their service center.

I appreciate all the replies.

The saw seems to opperate perfectly.  I bought it on ebay for 100 bucks shipped and the unit looks like new.

Ive looked at the exploded diagram and nothing is listed which looks like the spring on the shaft.

Bmack, my blade locking mechanism is working perfect, with spring tension, and this spring im asking about is too large to fit inside the lock…so I dont think it has anything to do with the blade lock assembled incorrectly.

Im just gonna cut it off and run it.

Yeah, I’m thinking it was taken apart and someone saw a spring and thought it went there. The spring looks more like a spring that goes inside a drill for the clutch.

That looks more like a retaining ring than a spring.  If you’ve ever taken apart a roto head ratchet, you know what I mean.  It is also used on the M12 Fuel hackzall to hold the quick change chuck onto the shaft.

MillerzconstructionMember since Dec 2015

It really doesnt look like anything that goes there. Maybe it’s something that some body eles was cutting off and some how magically rapped around the shaft.

Cary stuff like that happens to me.

It’s not a spring, it’s a retaining ring, a spiral retaining ring to be specific. If it’s in there it’s there for a reason. If you have a model number check ReplacementParts, you should be able to find it no problem.

KatoMember since Jan 2014

Sorry Jimbo, I just noticed you already linked to the same site as I did. I should pay more attention to things sometimes.

NicholasShetleyMember since Nov 2013

That definitely isn’t a spring. It is a retaining ring. That style is referred to as a spiro-lock. They are a huge pain to install. They are commonly used on aftermarket pistons and wrist pins in an engine. You can try and reinstall it but if it is bent much at all odds are it won’t work. If the blade change mechanism works fine I would just take it off.

I used to be able to do that.. let’s see.. try this

KatoMember since Jan 2014

I didn’t think it was a competition, but since it seems to be, let’s try something a little harder…

Seriously though, it’s not hard to do, and comes in handy when you have long links and don’t want your posts to look like gibberish.

After further review I think the loose piece may be 42 on this diagram.  Does anybody know what the retaining ring is holding into place?

Based on your original picture, I think you’re right.  It snaps on to the nose of #29 to keep it (and associated parts) from falling back into the tool.

comp56Member since Sep 2014

is it worth getting it to warranty?
