Hi, I know that for a drill, there is no need for a torque setting. However, what would happen if a driver has no torque setting? In this case, is the torque limiter in the driver still useful?

I guess it depends on your use so you don’t strip anything or should say hurt the tool. Did your break or did it just not come with one.

Drills without torque settings are a bit like teenagers without grown ups around.

Things might go great for a while but you just know sooner or later its all gonna end badly LOL ๐Ÿ™‚

I had a big powerful drill with no Clutch/torque control at all, I was reaching through a gap high in a building to drill through some steel sheet for a pipe when the drill bit jammed the drill spun and broke my finger.

That day I learnt a lesson NEVER have a drill without a clutch/torque control.

And screwdrivers with no clutch. If you are putting in 2 screws, then you may not see the benefits, but if you are putting in 200 or 2000 screws you deffo will. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ouch. Yeah I never thought about the danger of of not having a clutch

I didn’t either at the time LOL

Stuck up there 20 or so feet in the steel with a broken little finger finishing the job and then the drill flew a good 100 yards never to be seen again the first time I got chance LOL. ๐Ÿ™‚

Is it an Impact Driver?

Hi Tool Boy,

Mine was an old drill I had for years.

Sorry about that Wayne, I was directing that question @ Joan.

Most drivers without torque settings are limited by the the tools own maximum output. How useful this would be would depend on whether the tool reached its maximum torque before or after the fastener is driven all the way.

Hole Hawgs have no clutch…. A little caution goes a long way.

A drill with no clutch is an accident waiting to happen.

You can’t always tell when it is going to snatch and whip round on you.

Just like a gun, always assume it’s loaded.
