HD deal (actually a steal)

Home Depot as we now know is doing a deal right now where you get 150 back for specific tools ect if you buy one of two kits. I bought the xr Hammerdrill and driver kit for 369 and I was able to talk the store manager into allowing me to get the new tough system radio for 150 less. It started with a phone call… I got the ball rolling and after speaking to him in store he had to admit the “wording” is very vague on the display! The display has 4 pictures form Dewalt and 4 from Milwaukee… Yet there are an assortment of tools beneath the display. So use that against them. It specifically states “any radio” and beneath is a Bluetooth speaker. Not a radio. So find the new radio and call them on the vagueness and wording. It worked for me. I also drove to New Hampshire (30 min) to get it all tax free! It’s worth a shot!

Petro, where you from dude?

Agh! Hahahaha glad you came over dude! I saw the Milwaukee rep and he was bashing Dewalt big time. Nice guy but has to get some facts correct. He did show me the next generation shockwave bits and told me the red band indicates the new generation.

Petro0311Member since Oct 2015

Where you from Chrisk? I have to say I like both companies… I think they both have their pros and cons. I actually already have the xr set. This one is for my father for Xmas because he always borrows my impact. He’s got the nicad drills and he is always amazed by how much more power the new dewalts have. The radio is all mine haha I’ve been waiting for this to hit the shelves. I have the new Milwaukee Hammerdrill too… Powerhouse. So I don’t think either company can bash haha both have strengths and weaknesses.

ShuutrMember since Jun 2015

I think that actually falls within the terms of the sale. I was looking at the Ridgid brushless set.  If you add that ($279) and the Ryobi 4V lithium ion screwdriver ($29).  The checkout total is $210 plus tax.

If you buy any of the included kits and any power tool / radio / cordless fan, you get $100 or 150 off your total.

Petro0311Member since Oct 2015

That’s what I originally thought but I researched online first and there is actually a list of all the eligible tools for each company… The new tough radio wasn’t on it… The store was right, I was just not giving up haha

Petro0311Member since Oct 2015

All the tools that actually are eligible ring up at the register with the discount… I mean, they showed me but I kept arguing the wording of the sign. The radio wasn’t even near the display…

I get a kick out of these young reps bashing the competition….I thought to myself how would you know how well or bad something is enough to bash another companies products……after listening to one guy for 10 minutes….I looked at him and said …….hmmm interesting……I would keep that to yourself cause you would sound pretty silly if you ended up working for them some day……..

Petro0311Member since Oct 2015

There’s a reason they’re all still in business. They all have what someone wants in a tool.

I live on the Maine border just up 16 from Portsmouth. About 25 minutes to the ocean, 25 minutes to Winnepesaukee, and an hour to the White Mountains! Now if I can just convince my Wife to not have us move to Florida when I retire in 3 years 😉

Petro0311Member since Oct 2015

Man that’s a great place to be up there. Florida is nice to visit… I’d take the mountains any day.

Yeah Comp. I was looking at the Dewalt XR set and he started going on about how they’re getting sued for falsely advertising assemble in the USA. I piped up about our site and that our guys actually built their XR tools in the USA along with Stuart over at Toolguyd. He went on about how much stuff from Milwaukee is actually made here but after that conversation he said the new drill bits are made here blah blah blah blah and I noted the box said China so I asked the question and he was like….well most of the blades are made here….. 😉

Nice kid though but I couldn’t help but think I knew a little more about Milwaukee than he did. He had not idea they make a premier miter saw. Sure it’s old but it’s one of the best mothers out there,

Brand loyalty is a funny thing. Super nice kid, just didn’t have all his facts right. But boy he started on his Anti Dewalt, Anti Makita and then he went on about miter saws. I said….well I’ve done a lot of research and I almost bought the Milwaukee. Then I told him I went with the Kapex. He said…”well you can’t beat that”.

I have almost every brand out there. I don’t bash Milwaukee outside of their stoic insistence on making trade specific tools which has made me switch to different brands. But I still love my two M12 Fuels. But I can’t help but get a little irritated on bashing. Especially by a rep.

Yeah I’m blessed. I love New Hampshire. Except when it’s -22 and there is three and a half feet of snow in my driveway. 😉

Petro0311Member since Oct 2015

Yea Last winter was tough for us down here haha but I got a lot of skiing in!!

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Yeah that’s funny. I don’t friggin’ ski!!!!!!!! I snow shoe but that’s it!!!!! I guess it’s like living on Hawaii and not surfing.

Haha exactly

Did you mention the first gen bits were crap 😀

RickyMcGrathMember since Oct 2014

The website shows it is valid on multiple DeWalt radios. So the term “any radio” is pretty clear. Why would the tough system radio be exempt. Clear as day to me.

Yeah. I offended him 😉

I told him the M18 Recip (non Fuel) was absolute rubbish as was the M18 (non Fuel circular saw) and the shockwave bits were pure crap. I then elevated him by complementing the three Milwaukee tools I do have. But….if the guy is gonna talk crap he better be ready to hear about it!

Petro0311Member since Oct 2015

Yea Ricky when I read that it seemed that way to me… But I have 4 HD’s within 20 min of me and today for shits I called two and went to one. They all told me it wasn’t included. But The sign seems to paint a different picture. I’m just glad I got it haha

Ha ha……when you screw with our tool quality your gonna answer to the crew LOL!!!

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Right?????? Like I said, nice kid. Needs to get his I formation straight. Really polite, definitely wants to move along with Milwaukee but I walked away thinking, man…..I could do that

“Milwaukee Rep” as in the ones inside Home Depots? Those guys aren’t reps. They glorified merchandisers. All the tool reps that handle Lowes and HD’s are. TWO Makita “Reps” knew nothing about the 16″ beam cutter when I asked them last week at HD. I always see them and they never see too informed.

When I bought my DeWalt pressure washer, the TTI reps, one wearing Milwaukee and one Wearing Ryobi, were both giving me crap about it.

Nah this guy is actually a rep he had the Milwaukee truck and a TTI card. Nice guy actually. Definitely drinking the kook aid though!
Petro0311Member since Oct 2015

I’ve only seen the guys Ricky mention… The ones that are all wearing different brand name shirts and walking around the tool area.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Hey Petro how’re you liking the XR set anyways? I know this one is for the Dad in law but are you really happy with yours?

Petro0311Member since Oct 2015

Hey Chrisk yea man this one is for my dad but this is a great set. Usually I can find something I’d change but this set is seriously great. I’ve had it a couple years and had nothing but good luck. My new Milwaukee has more torque or whatever but honestly, it’s an 18 volt drill (20) how much torque do you really need ? Haha I mean if I was drilling concrete all day id get something bigger. They’ve held up in the dirt and rain… 4.0 batteries have been fine. The chick is quality. It comes with a bag but I bought a tough box and used a 5 dollar piece of foam to cut a place for both drills and two batteries in the middle. Works out great. Also I’m pretty sure my lowes just marked the set down… Maybe there’s a new set coming out.

I love this set, can’t wait to upgrade the impact though, not worried about the drill, the little of improvement and light won’t make me upgrade. Nice it came with a tough case shows a little more caring for the customer than giving just bags.

No way man I had to buy the case and cut the foam myself! It came with a bag!

JimboS1iceMember since Sep 2015

Looks good, some of the newer kits are shipping with tough boxes, maybe after they release the new xr drills and impacts they’ll change their packaging.

Yea they have a few sets like that now. I bought my compact 20v recip in a tough box. Honestly not so happy with the saw. I wish I had gotten the fuel sawzall.

Which model did you get?

I got the DCS387 20v max compact recip. The model number on the kit was a little different because it was a kit but that’s the saw. I mean, it works but I wish I had a fuel.

That’s the one diligent to pick up, not looking for something as big as the fuel, for that I have the super sawzall

Yea that’s why I got it for the smaller size. For that it’s good. I guess I could get a super sawzall and have he best of both worlds haha.

I know the major marketing dewalt did with that was you could fit it between two studs in a wall.

I tried at two HD’s and no one budged. How would you feel about sending me a copy of a receipt? I’m sure I could persuade them that way.

Did you have an issue with getting the $150 promo to work with the ToughSystem radio?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Renner_constructionMember since Jul 2015

Kinda sorta only because the computer wasn’t automaticly discounting the 150$

Just stay calm and explain what the sign says !

Eventually I had 2 of the tool guys, cashier and store manager on my side.

77FordMember since Dec 2014

Just picked up a second radio and the $150 came off when I rang up the DeWalt kit.

Maybe HD realized they screwed up!

Last week the promo did not come off when I bought my first one!!!

That’s the problem I had but the sign specifically says ANY radio!! Glad you guys were able to get the deal I got!
