You’ll never “see” penny deals. It’s A LOT of work. Checking BOD on clearance tags. Knowing what SHOULDN’T be on the shelves any longer. SEARCHING SEARCHING SEARCHING.

Also picked up a couple boxes of nails. [emoji16]
Awesome PennyRicky, looks like you’ll be nailing anything that’s out of level for awhile
which Paslode nail packs are those? I can’t quite make it out from the picture (my eyes aren’t what they used to be) and I’d like to see if I can find a similar deal around me.RickyMcGrath wrote:

16ga Angled finish with one fuel cell.
They’re clearanced out in most regions. They should be a penny, but hurry. They’re going quick.
Damn those were a penny too I knew you wouldn’t have bought that many at 6 dollars a piece. Do you ever spend more than a few pennies at HD..lol

Any computer in the store.

So once you manage to get to a computer, what do you do to find the clearance deals? Not that I’ve had a lot of time to poke around, but to save time, is there a specific site to launch or link to click to do the search? I’ve looked on just hd.com from one of them and didn’t see anything special.
I’ve posted before but I’ll mention again. On every terminal there is a desktop that has icons. The top row of icons are labeled public. One of those icons is a price check (click). You can search for anything. There is a lot and large searches can draw a connection error. If you have a sku it is easier. So if you see something on the shelf that looks like an old clearance label, jot down the sku and search for that (or take the item to the self check register and price check).
What I typically will search for is a brand. Say ridgid. Then filter the results (click) to include clearance items (click) and return to results (click). It’ll narrow down the results to clearance items.
You can skip the filters and sort by price but there are often listings for things that are out of stock.
You can also select an item and below the picture there is an indication of the number on hand. (Not always accurate, if the qty is one sometimes it is the display. Sometimes it is in the rafters). If the qty is zero you can see the qty at nearby stores on the right of the screen.

It’s also been suggested that the computers “aren’t for public use” and so some stores don’t allow people to use them. Others stores don’t care. HD could change their stance on this at any time if it becomes problematic for them.

I’ve found forum posts and blogs dated back to 2008 that have all said the same thing. After 7 years and it’s not a problem yet, I doubt it will be any time soon.
Home Depot pushes them as a way to look at and order special order items. It’s weird though that some stores don’t have them for public use. The metro Detroit area lets anyone use an obvious public assess terminal.

One store, I get stopped by the same lady every time at SCO. She feeds me the same old crap, I politely ask for a manager, she says she is the manager. I ask for her manager, he comes over and clears the SCO and says “have a great day.”

Tell her your PennyRicky and your unstoppable
I remember about 13-15 years ago going into the Deopt’s “Tool Corral” and looking up at the upper racks and seeing tools marked as ” Reconditioned” I picked up a Paslode Cordless Framer and a Paslode angled cordless nailer for 200 dollars each, still have them today…
People would buy the tools and use them for a few days then return them..good stuff…
The things I seen people return back to HD is something else, this one lady brought in a whole shopping cart of garden tools all used. She was like this chainsaw doesn’t work anymore that thing looked like it got ran over buy a train..lol

I love when people do that. I’ve had great success at Lowes with open item returns.
The pc’s around here are guarded like Fort Knox ‘s. I have made friends with he guys at the pro desk and they give me the inside scoop.
I snuck in the HD today while waiting for the pool supply to open up, I always look up high in the Tool Section for the “Recon”

There has to be 10+ PC’s accessible by the public. Pro Desk, Customer Service, Millworks usually has two, appliances usually has 2-3. Lawn and garden. The one by customer service is often used for filling out an application. Nobody asks when you use that one.
I never find anything like this at my HD
I don’t see recon tools or returned tools at my HD anymore except in lawn and garden. They have so many beat up tools there. The only problem is they want way too much for beat to heck tools. Man its crazy I do remember back when the tool area was like its own little area. You had to check out and everything before you left the area. I wonder when they changed that format.
Wow that’s one clean HD and everything has a price tag. Mine looks like someones junk drawer
Bigmikez wrote:

same here…only things i see on clearance when i’m at HD are random useless things you would find at a dollar store

yeah, that’s quite a few more tools and related than we see around here, too. looking at the prices it doesn’t look like you missed out on any deals, except maybe the combination square for less than $2, assuming you have any need for it or dont already have one.
smart move… play the long game and save up for the house. you’ll never regret it. it’s one of the most satisfying purchases you’ll ever make.
Those Porter Cable finish nails may be a penny.Hatter512 wrote:

Maybe, they were marked at 30$. I didn’t try price checkingRickyMcGrath wrote:

Look at the date on the yellow tag. If it’s 2 mos or older, it’s probably been marked down since that tag was printed. May not be a penny yet, but there’s a chance.
I think I got lucky today.
HD has the buy an m12 kit get bare tool free promo running. My local HD still had the 2494-22B kit which has the drill, impact driver two 2 Ah batteries and one xc 4(?) Ah battery included listed for $129.
I got the angle drill driver as my free bare tool ($79).
The barcode for the code didn’t work but the hardware guy told the cashier it should work so they okd it.

very nice! yeah, the kit itself was a special promo a while ago. one of the combinations of this promo actually recreates the contents of that kit, so it’s like you got 2 freebies since you got the angle driver too. nothing wrong with that, though, the hardware guy shouldve known. 3 tools and 3 batteries for $129 is an awesome deal.
That’s awesome. I’d spring $130 for that deal.Shuutr wrote:

I walked into a cool deal at HD tonight. I ended up getting a Johnson plumb bob for just over $1, some Johnson flagging tape for $0.54 a piece and a Johnson Contour gauge for $1.50.
I saw those at my HD yesterday.
Ricky, it’s time to periscope a Home Depot trip.
