Hi all, I’m new to this site so apologies if this question has already been asked. I have a 240 volt makita die grinder & i would like to reduce the spindle speed to accomadate a rotary wire brush, which is not suitable for the current spindle speed of my die grinder. Is there such an accessory available in the UK that i can just plug into the mains supply then plug my die grinder into the speed reducer?

Many thanks in anticipation, yorky2010

I’d be very leary of plugging your die grinder into anything that will reduce the voltage. It will more than likely overheat and burn up. I am not familiar with the HZ that the UK uses. But Inthe US. a 220V tool will run on a 110V at half speed untill it overheats and burns up. There used to be quite a lot of variable voltage construction tools out there. They were designed to be used on the older style genereators that fluctuated with load. I don’t know if your grinder has this capability but it will tell you on the name plate.

I agree with Texan, you will burn up the tool. Tools are made to run at a certain V and anything else will ruin the tool. You are better off getting a different tool or borrow one from a friend if it will be a one time use.
