Any Sawzall Fans

I was doing a little yard work today. I decided to cut back some azaleas. The first thought I had was I better go grab my sawzall.

My dad and grandpa were plumbers and I grew up using a sawzall. I guess I learned then how valuable a Sawzall can be.

I’ve owned the following ones in the last couple years:

6538 – 15A Super Sawzall. Great saw but a little on the heavy side.

6519 – 12A Sawzall. My favorite corded Sawzall.

2720 – Fuel Cordless Sawzall. I can’t say enough good about this tool. It’s awesome.

I did purchase a DeWalt DCS 387 compact recip saw last year. I never made a cut with it. I only unboxed it and test run the motor. When I felt how much vibration that little saw has I decided to return it. I picked up the Fuel Sawzall and I’m glad I did.

Do you have any pictures or videos of your Sawzall? Do you have any Sawzall stories or just want to talk about them? If so feel free to post it here.

Here is a quick video I shot this morning.

I have the M12 Fuel Hackzall too. It’s a great little saw

I have a 2520 Hackzall and 2720 Sawzall. Love them, for rough cuts they can’t be beat. I’ve used a 6509 and 6519 extensively for work and they are bulletproof.

Just the other day we bought a new bed frame w storage underneath so no longer needed a box spring. The Fuel Hackzall stripped it down to planks for recycling in minutes. I was able to carry one small bundle out the door w ease.

Mine is the 18 volt

Here’s a pic of mine guys. I’ve never tried the milwaukee fuel and I’m kinda scared 2 lol! I might wanna buy it 😉 I’ve put both of these through a lot pruning tree branches and such I’ve even taken my dewalt to the shop and have cut some core supports on cars it been good to me so far.

I love my Porter Cable Tiger Saws, made up a few Sawzall blade tubes out of 2″ and 1 1/2″ pvc for blade storage, keeps the blades organized

Great idea Mikey!! If u don’t mind I wanna copy u on that idea.

No problem BigMike, I also use the pvc for my SDS bits for my Bosh rotary hammer., cut the pipe so it fits in the case. You can label them for whatever you use them for. One of these days I’m going to pick up some clear pipe this way the contents are easy to view.

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

I would hit that like button Bro but I’m all out:/ Thanks Mikey very much appreciated!what did u use on the ends?

Milwaukee corded sawzall is the best sawzall on the market. I also have an old Ryobi cordless that I have been using forever and it still works awesome.

DoofMember since May 2015

I’m in the market to upgrade from an ‘old’ ni-cad ryobi I inherited. I’m coveting the fuel sawzall. Beyond general work, I’ll use it for pruning as well. A great excuse to use it.

Gotta say, Milwaukee was genius extending the stroke length and dropping the rpms. Really can’t wait to get my hands on one.

I had one of the Ryobi cordless saws before I went to Milwaukee, and that thing took a ton of abuse. I have to say I do love my M12 and M18 fuel sawzalls though!!

Northern RebelMember since May 2014

This old Ryobi still gets it done bro!

DoofMember since May 2015

For sure, this Ryobi’s taken a beating. I’ll try to post an ugly picture of it tomorrow. Either way, the fuel design is ridiculous. By extending the stroke length and reducing the rpms, they made it perform as though they increased the rpms by 500. Awesome way to conserve power. Sweet thing.

C-Haris, you are one of the coolest guys I know. Only toolnuts like us would think of trimming a bush with a sawzall lol. I am amazed at how good it does! Its going through it like butter, and best part is, you don’t need a big loud ass chainsaw to get the job done, this proves Milwaukee Fuel is total kickass. I love sawzalls myself but never owned one. I just don’t have enough project to justify purchase of one for right now. But one of these days I am going to pickup a Milwaukee fuel sawzall that is total kickass like yours. Too bad you don’t live near me, that way I could come over and saw something in half with your sawzall and then laugh histerically like I have a screw loose. 😀

LOL! It’s funny how much different we look at stuff than wives. What we see as cool they see as weird. I’m sitting here with my wife now. I just let her watch the video. She said did you screw up our azaleas just to make this video you nut. It would be cool if you could come over. That way my wife could realize I’m not the only goofy tool nut.

Lol! I have cut up a box spring with one before. It sure was easier to carry down the stairs.

Don’t try the fuel if you are worried you might have to buy one. You would love it.

Great idea for the blade storage. My grandpa used to keep his drill bits in hard copper tubes. It never dawned on me to use PVC to store my blades.

You won’t be disappointed with the Fuel Sawzall. It doesn’t sacrifice any performance over a corded saw. It’s awesome not having to drag a cord around for stuff like pruning.

correy.romrellMember since Jun 2015

I’ve been using my m18 fuel sawzall for a couple months and the only complaint is when it binds up it will power through and destroy the blade. I’ve gone through more blades than I ever did with the m18 hackzall.

I have cut plenty of bushes down with a sawzall. You get those thick branches that need a hedge trimmer isn’t going to get, time to get the sawzall out.

I think the hardest thing I’ve had to cut with a Milwaukee Sawzall is through a 4″ thick piece of stainless steel roundstock that was in a tight corner. Went through quite a few blades, but it all worked out in the end.

n00bMember since Jun 2015

Milwaukee 12V corded.

Demo’ed my kitchen with ease…now doing yard work and taking down trees and such.

Next up: removing nasty carpet glue from the basement’s cement floor. Picked up a Spyder scraper blade. We’ll see what happens

WeldfabNeilMember since May 2015

I’ve used my sawzalalso for just about everything. I even used it to help take a small stump out of the ground, about two feet across. I didn’t wana ruin a chain saw chain an it was positioned were I didn’t have room to pull it with my truck. Just took the sawzaw an cut around it an in quarters. Of course I’ve used them for pruning trees as well. Before I had my plasma cutter, metal cutting circular saw an porta band I cut a lot of metal with sawzalls as well.

My only complaint is I’ve spent more money on sawzall blades then the actual saws themselves.

I’ve got the following ones

– m18 brushed

-m18 fuel brushless

-12 amp corded millwakee

-Makita sawzall, not sure the amps or model

I also had a corded ryobi but it bit the dust.

BigMike I used what Plumbers call Gem Caps, they sell they at the Depot, they are rubber caps with a hose clamp on the end. On one end I tighten the clamp down and on the opposite end I keep the clamp off, this way I can just pull the cap off the push it back on.

Milwaukee M18 Fuel Sawzall has yet to let me down. Throw a 12 Inch 5 TPI blade on there and it packs a small chainsaw punch around the house.

There is so much that Milwaukee put’s out that I want to get. The M18 Fuel Sawzall 2720 is high my list of next purchases, but I’m doing pretty well with the corded recip saws that I have.

I make a lot of things out of old pallet wood, I was wondering if you guys think the M12 Fuel Hackzall 2520 would be able to cut through the nails in pallets. I usually go at pallets with a hammer and pry bar, which works very well, but it would be faster to just slip a blade under the slats to cut the nails. I know the 2720 can handle this with ease, just curious if the 2520 is a viable option.

Thanks in advance for the awesome advice

I think the 2520 would work well in that application. Just use a good blade. The 2720 would be faster though.

Just ordered the 2720-21 with a free 4.0 xc battery! It should be here early next week. Man, I can’t wait to pop a blade in that sucker and start the destruction!!!

Congrats! You are going to love it. It’s by far the best Sawzall I’ve ever had my hands on..

I have the non-Fuel M12 Hackzall. I like it, but it ain’t fast! Mostly used it for limbing holly trees at my sister’s house, but it’s done a bit of work cutting various tabs off of my Jeep.

I’m kinda undecided about what I want to pick up in the future. I’m kinda digging the M18 Fuel Sawzall, but then I kinda also want a couple of the corded models… The 15amp Super looks like nothing would slow it down, and the 13 amp looks like it wouldn’t wear ME down as fast, LOL. And somebody posted about their new Bosch recip saw a couple of months ago, maybe a model 427? 428? 429? I remember it being the same as a coveted Ford big block engine, LOL.

n00bMember since Jun 2015

I’m sooooo chomping at the bit to pull the trigger on an M18 Fuel…I have the 12V corded…but corded tools are such a pain…right….RIGHT?!?

ankurMember since Jul 2015

i wish i had more reason to pull the sawzall out. finding creative uses for it is great. i bought some attachments that allowed me to grind away some grout around shower tiles that needed to be removed. so much easier to remove a small section than the whole wall. it’s easily my most borrowed tool.

chadlanthierMember since Mar 2013

I have dewalts recip saw, not the compact one and always fin some use for it. I’ve trimmed trees and cut a couch into small pieces. It’s the best thing since sliced bread.

I had the 15amp version before the Fuel. It is one heavy tool.

I have a corded, M12 & M18…..all three never fail the mission and with the cordless being so good today I seldom ever take the corded out of the box. Had a Makita cordless about 3 years back, didn’t like that it blew through batteries, it got stolen so no lost sleep……Insurance bought me a Milwaukee.

I’m getting excited for the arrival of my new saw! But, I have a question. Why don’t we get these awesome all-black cases here in the US? And what country gets these?

[External image (farm8.staticflickr.com), not copied]

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Oh man those black cases are BADASS!!!! I want one!!

DoofMember since May 2015

Maybe we should flood Milwaukee with requests!!! Or, better yet, demand them!!!

NicholasShetleyMember since Nov 2013

I have seen those cases on eBay from foreign sellers. I don’t remember what countries though.

ankurMember since Jul 2015

wow, those are really nice compared to the standard red. does anyone know if you can buy cases that arent molded for specific tools? i stop by the milwaukee service store every now and then, but they only have molded cases that don’t fit any of my tools. the bags that come with the tools are okay for storing, but they really don’t provide any protection.

Justin HernandezMember since Apr 2015

That case looks awesome I never liked the red ones

My Fuel Sawzall came in from HD today! I’m so excited. My wife looked at me like I was crazy! Ha! I’m about to saw something as soon as the the little tyke’s in bed.

Now, what to do with this packaged battery? Anybody sell them on ebay before? What should I expect from a packaged 4.0 bat? Manufacture date code shows February 2015. Pity you can’t just return them for credit.

Really, I’m just waiting for the weekend to get to demo-ing for a custom closet I’m putting in for my wife. Getting rid of the old reach-ins and converting a small office into a walk-in with a dressing table and built-ins. But until then, the dogwoods and poplars out front should be quaking in their spots. Our whole front yard is forest. Looks to be a fun, if not sweat filled and humid job. Can’t wait!
