CPO Reconditioned Tools

Been looking around to get deals on some Milwaukee tools and came across the Reconditioned Tool section on the CPO website. What are your thoughts on these Reconditioned Tools? Anyone have experience with buying Reconditioned Tools through CPO? If they are not too bad, I wouldn’t mind saving a buck or two on some tools.

generally I buy new unless it is a really good discount would I consider refurbished….

Nalu RashMember since Apr 2015

Yeah I agree with you Comp, I usually buy tools new( except for hand tools, occasionally I’ll find a bargain at a garage sale or something ). I feel like it’s a mystery box when you buy something used, hard to tell the extent of abuse it’s been through.

comp56Member since Sep 2014

same as buying used tools, they must be cheap like 70% less than retail……new looking or not…..I won’t pay any more……

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Yea, most of the time CPO’s prices are too high for refurbished tools. Plus with Milwaukee buying new and a tool with a promotion going on tends to be the better deal

ShuutrMember since Jun 2015

I haven’t bought reconditioned from them yet. But very tempting. One thing I have come across what I think is a good deal only to realize it is older models showing up. They are two generations old and I don’t want to invest in that.

Lots of experience buying from CPO and Tyler Tool. I’ve got a recon DW734 that shipped brand new, my Dewalt 20v two speed framer, my Milwaukee M12 rotary, my Ryobi 18v Brad nailer. I’ve been a customer for several years. Never had a problem. Plus the one year warranty is nice.

I don’t know about others vendors but as far as CPO Outlet their refurbished tools come from the manufacturer..

Where they fix, test, and provide a warranty of sorts..so at least the place that made the tool is the same who refurb. It

Opposed to some 3rd party company taking and fixing with parts they got from who knows where lol

CPO also offers a money back guarantee..oddly enough new tools get 30days and refurb 60days

Personally I usually buy new..something about unboxing and getting that new tool smell haha

comp56Member since Sep 2014

hand tools I don’t mind buying used (if they work they work) but other stuff is like buying underwear used or refurbished not gonna cut it….lol

ryanjbutler1Member since Jun 2015

I have had a couple reconditioned tools and all I can say is you get what you pay for. I would stay away in my opinion.

What about Factory Reconditioned? I have bought a few of my DeWalt tools, without any issues.

That’s what CPO tools are..I’d prolly try some out for home use!!

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Generally CPO and Tyler offer a 1 year warranty like I mentioned earlier. They honor that warranty too. Very good company to deal with

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Ha know, I’ve bought 2 or 3 recon’d Milwaukee tools from CPO and they’ve been great.

I saved $130 on my chainsaw and would buy another in a heartbeat

Great insight from all you TIA crew members, just another example of why this forum is so great

i actually buy all my tools brand new. special sale, clearance etc…always find a good deal.

i have a tool coming in from CPO outlet which is factory reconditioned. i purchased it because its a discontinued item ( didnt sell much that why the manufactor took it off the market)

as soon as its here and i reviewed the item ill leave another comment. good thing is that i have 60days money back guarantee.

what i hope the most, that the item has rarely been used

im getting the Bosch CET4-20W

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

received the air compressor yesterday. i am so disappointed. its a factory reconditioned.

item didnt came in the original Bosch box. just a sturdy cardboard box. i opened the box and i just smelled oil.

i took it out and i inspected it.

oil was almost everywhere at the air compressor,

manufacturer patched up the damaged air compressor cage with paint ,

plastic housing/ cover from the motor scratched up.

1 rubber foot was broken off,

rust and oil at the bottom of the air tanks,

paint job comes off the air tanks, kinda looks like rust bubbles or so,

air filter dirty,

i have no clue who reconditioned that item but my thoughts it just got the Recon sticker and they threw it back in the box.

no cleaning – nothing.

still paid $300 for that tool – i definitely gonna send it back. i hope they take care of the return shipping costs for a almost 100lbs item.

CPO is dead for me….how can you sell items like that, in that condition and for that kinda price. that tool is maybe $100 worth or less. that something what you find at a garage sale or something.

i didnt take any pictures….because i threw it back in the box withing 15mins of inspection.

Wow that’s crazy that CPO would let this ship out like that, that’s pretty extreme. Sorry to hear about that MM that really sucks when you’ve waited for something to come and it’s all messed up or not what u wanted

DR99Member since Nov 2012

I wish you took some pictures and shamed Bosch and CPO of your situation on social media. CPO should ship you a new compressor for the price of the refurbished one. Refurbished means like new to new condition not used junk. That’s really shitty what happened.

krutonMember since Jun 2015

That’s not good for business I would think.

yeah good call DR. i still have the package in the garage. i might gonna unpack it again, get my hands dirty and oily and take some pictures

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Who knows MM u might get a new one! That would be awesome!

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

i dont think that Bosch or CPO have a new one laying around, its a discontinued model and you just find Recon’s now

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

so ehm where should i post the stuff? facebook or whats the best

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Sorry to hear that Madman. Definitely not common but it’s too bad that happened. They will cover the return though, they always take back the tool if there a problem. I’m surprised they did that. Tyler Tool I believe is owned by CPO too just so you know. I’ve bought from Big Sky Tool which is a certified Hitachi recon company and like CPO I’ve always been lucky with my purchases.

Maxwell Tyler RayMember since Jun 2015

Sorry to hear that..I’m sure they will make things right with you!!

I feel for you with having the deal with hassle..Keep ur head up!!

DR99Member since Nov 2012

I would hit up both facebook and twitter

I had a couple of bad experiences with refurbished tools from CPO, but great experience with CPO itself.

The first was a refurb Milwaukee 2604 hammer drill.  I don’t know who “Certified” the tool, but the forward/reverse switch was stuck in the middle, which of course meant you couldn’t actually pull the trigger to turn the drill on.  Really?  A refurbished drill that doesn’t turn on?

The second problem was my Milwaukee SCMS.  There was a problem with the bevel detents – they were missing so you couldn’t actually lock it at 90 and had to drag out a square to get it squared again every time you moved it.  Again, this was a slightly more subtle defect than the drill, but certainly making sure that you can lock your saw at the common bevels is sort of an important feature.

On a positive note, CPO is a fantastic company to work with.  They paid for return shipping on both items, including the 75 lb. SCMS that was outside of the 30 day no questions asked return window and the replacements are working just fine.  (Well, the SCMS single degree miter knob doesn’t work but I am not 100% certain that I care enough to get that fixed, but it’s still under the 1 year warranty, so I might).

So – is it worth going refurb?  If you can get a killer deal sure, but I’m glad that CPO has such a good return/cross ship policy when I take the plunge.  Just make sure that you test out EVERYTHING right away so you don’t get stuck holding the bag on a lemon.

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

yeah i gonna see what they do with my air compressor

Sorry to hear that you had some problems. I hope everything gets resolved. Thank you for sharing this though, it might prevent others from going through the same issues. I know I won’t be getting any reconditioned tools from CPO now

I bought a refurbished leaf blower  and also a 1/2 inch hammer drill by Makita from CPO and have had issues at all. I have used both tools many times with no problems. Also the tools came to me looking new, just today I ordered a refurbished 1/2 inch impact wrench and hoping to get great service from it also

For all you Ryobi fans….. DTO is now an authorized seller….

I think that’s a TTI front store.  I first went to one in South Carolina (?) probably six years ago and they carried Ryobi then, even having the cooling cooler in stock.  I stopped by the one off I-95 Exit 97 in North Carolina last year and they almost exclusively carry TTI brands, with Ryobi and Ridgid featured prominently, a vacuum section with Hoover seconds, and a small section of Milwaukee.  I picked up the Ryobi dual inflator but oddly haven’t seen it for a few months as I’ve been throwing stuff everywhere…I mean, packing.
