Hey everyone,
I am starting to toy with the idea of a cordless circular saw to add to my kit. I currently have a brushed 4 piece kit with sawsall, light, hammer drill and impact. I would like to get a bare tool circular saw, and cant decide between the brushed, and the fuel. I know the benefits of the fuel tool, but are they really worth the extra 130 bucks?
I would love to hear thoughts from people who have used either one, and if you have had experience with both, even better!
Cheers
I havnt used it im not really a cordless guy but from what iv heard from lots of people is the fuel is the way to go it just out preforms any.none brushless and its as close to cordex power as you can get!!! You already.got the milwaukee line amd i heard there fuel circ saw is one of the top contenders right up with the makita soo id say thw fuel is worth it and thats coming from a wormdrive corddd circ saw guy
I have the fuel, truth be told….. best saw I have ever owned……bTW not sure why you would have to pay $130 difference I paid less than $50 difference when I bought mine……
I was at the depot today, and the fuel is 229, and the regular is 99. Where did you purchase yours, comp?
home depot around beginning of year regular saw was $149 and fuel was on sale for $199
Go Fuel!!
The $99 saw is the brushed 6 1/2″ model. The fuel 6 1/2″ is $199 and the fuel 7 1/4″ is $229.
Personally I think the big fuel saw is the way to go. It cuts amazingly and has a ton of power. 7 1/4″ blades are also a lot easier to find and cheaper than 6 1/2″ blades.

Haha thanks. The thing is she LOVES going to the depot, but I can count on her ratting me out if I stray from the list even to look at the new toys.
6 1/2 fuel circ saw $229 http://www.homedepot.ca/product/m18-fuel-circ-saw-bare-tool/415139
The 7 1/4 would be nice, but I like the blade on the left side, and I believe it only comes on the right from what I have seen.

Correct about the blade being in the right side. All depends on your preference I guess. I like the right side blade.
The prices I quoted were in USD- didn’t know we were talking loonies and toonies. You might try KMS if you are near one. They have had some killer deals in the past in the 7 1/4″ Fuel saw.
I have Makita stuff and have used the older brushed 6 1/2. The new brushless 6 1/2 and even the dual battery 36v 7 1/4
The 7 1/4 is a power house but to be honest the brushless 6 1/2 isn’t far behind
The brushless is sooooo much better than the brushed. Night and day

For a pro, like myself – yes, no question. I couldn’t force myself to buy brushed, at this point.
I have reframed a gable wall with the Fuel 6.5, it was cutting 45 degrees in 2×6 and 2×8 with no problem. I would have preferred corded but it wasn’t an option. I’ve cut PT 4×4 with smooth passes, PT 2×8 no problem.
Next up is the 7.25 for the nothing but heavy duty cuts….
I have the Fuel 6.5 like JermeyJ, and used it to rip down 2×12 wet 2×12 pt a few weeks ago. I wish I waited and got the 7 1/4 though. The though of having a full sized saw is nice.
I use the 6.5 Fuel. I would prefer the 7.25 but the 6.5 is excellent and hasn’t left me disappointed. I certainly wouldn’t buy a brushed cordless.
WOW!!! That’s an awesome price DR! u found that on there websight? I want one.
Its from HD’s in store computers
Man I gotta check I mine has that same deal. Thanks Jason!
I checked this afternoon. That saw is 99 at my HD.
Man I wasn’t able to stop by HD hopefully 2marrow :/
I’m well aware it’s a bare tool. I already have a few other Milwaukee tools including a 4 piece kit so the batteries isn’t an issue. I think the bare tool would be the most economical way to go, I mean I could buy the circ saw kit for more money then I bought my 4 piece kit for. I’m not totally sure I could justify the fuel saw. I mean I’d love to get the 7 1/4 fuel, but the blade is on the wrong side..
It’s an excellent bare tool saw for the cost. Got a week ago. Loving it and its convenience. Its very well designed.
New Saw! I’ve been using it for complete bathroom and walk-in closet renovation. Its my first 6-1/2 in. saw. So, I still need to purchase some blades, though the stock one works well enough for now.[External image (i1040.photobucket.com), not copied][External image (i1040.photobucket.com), not copied]
Thanks!
Compared to the 7 1/4 Skil Worm Drive, this thing is like a toy–but in a good way. It’s not as much work to deal with, especially without the cord. And, yes, its pretty quiet. And it gets the job done with no hassles or hold ups. It’s so light you can easily use it with one hand. Given, I’ve not abused it, but I rarely ‘abuse’ my tools. Still it seems to be worthwhile purchase for the value.
I’d read a mountain of reviews on the thing trying to satisfy a question of whether or not to get it or the Fuel. A question one can easily ask a tool junky and expect a, “Get the Fuel!” response. (Who doesn’t want the Fuel. But need. I mean, with the skil backup, I think I’ve got my bases covered.) After reading that many owners of this brushed version were “leaving their corded saws in the trunk,” I just bit the 99$ bullet. Save the extra $100 or so for another tool up the road. Or maybe I’ll put it towards a beastly 9.0 battery!
It would be foolish of them to not. If it’s about value proposition for them, and it should be, the 9.0s will be for those heavily invested in the tool line, as well as to just steal others from the blue, yellow, and green teams. It would be absurd to make obselete the first Gen fuel line which still represents one of the best tool lines on the market. Imagine how many orders they would get from companies with volume investments. Not to mention Gen 2 upgrades as well.
But this is a great question. Maybe Dan and Eric have some insight.
They use the same connection. They are still M18 batteries, they just have more cells. They will fit previous tools.
They even had a stack of lumber at the show showing the number of cuts off of a 9.0 battery. My takeaway from that would be that they used a 2731 saw for those cuts.
Congrats on the saw Doof, at $99 that’s a great value.
I think you made a good choice. The 7.25″ is good for blades, but i don’t think its got any more power … the motor is the same size anyway. i love the size and left-handed blade of the 6.5″
Got the 6.5 brushed cutting pt 2×12 worked great got about 25 to 30 cuts per battery

Doof, correct me if i am wrong but that’s the brushed saw correct?

Yes sir. Its a great saw. The shoe details are accurate and functional. For 99$, a steal.
I’m using 5.0 packs

I guarantee the 9.0 packs will be backward compatible. Milwaukee pissed everyone off once when the dumped the V series, they won’t do it again
I have the 6 1/2 model in fuel might not mean much but the fuel is also a little lighter by 1.2lbs
@Comp56 – The 6 1/2 Fuel saw is amazing. I like the brushed version, but the fuel is amazing. Wish I would have had the spare cash lying around to get it. Nice saw.

Yea, they didn’t mention about any sort of incompatibility with the tools. I think it will only be bundled with certain tools like the SDS max drill and mag drill. The V18 was a pretty big debacle for Milwaukee. They should have offered an upgrade program
my fuel impact with a slim or 4.0 on it is just right, the hammer drill on the other hand has a bit of weight to it with a 4.0 I can imagine overhead work with a 9.0 hanging off it would become tiring after some time….

if item scans for more than ad price you get $10 off sale price if less than $10 you get it for 1 cent
Funny, I should’ve checked this out first. I just started a post asking about the brushed circular saw LOL!
I have the brushed 6 1/2″ and its a great saw don’t get me wrong, but a guy at work has the fuel 6 1/2″ version and Ive gotta say that the fuel is definitely worth it. In my opinion it has a lot more power and the motor is about half the size of the brushed making it a a lot more compact. Also I like the shoe and readouts on the fuel better than the brushed. But on the other hand if you can find the brushed for the 30 bucks you cant go wrong there.
I showed the guys at my local HD a screenshot of the $30.03 price tag to try and get a price match but they wouldn’t do it. But, they did give me $20 off so I got it for $80 so I wasn’t too upset.
