Dewalt. I’ve had great experiences with customer support. I had a battery replaced by them for free, even though the tool was out of warranty.

I’ve got a DCD775 and DCF826. I don’t use them every day, but for the miscellaneous projects around the house they’re great.

For power tools I usually go with millwakee.

Hand tools I usually go with Armstrong, Proto, Klein, kinipex, millwakee, an then of course Mac, matco, cornwel an snap on. Ime sure ime forgetting some good brands as well.

Welding stuff I go with miller electric.

At the end of the day if it works I use it.

I’m a DIY and family repair man lol! I Was a super Dewalt guy till these guys I know……DR and Chrisk came into my life…lol. Great guys but watch out for those 2 😉 they hooked me up on some milwaukee stuff and from there I’ve seen a lot more Red in my garage, the Milwaukee fuel tools are awesome m12 and m18 I gotta say the 2763 fuel 1/2 impact wrench is the KING of my garage and the shop At the moment. So all in all my Favorite brand is Dewalt but Milwaukee has that special spot in my Tool junkie heart.

Poisonfangs85Member since Feb 2015

Milwaukee. I was raised on Milwaukee. My old man is a sparkie by trade and that’s just how it was haha. He is now the VP at his company and all of the tools in the shop that can be are Milwaukee (fuel as the old ones do the death march).

I worked for his shop doing summer help during high school. I remember going to the supply house and picking up hammer drill combo kits and sawzalls 10+ at a crack and delivering them to the job sites. I knew if it made the guys on the sites happy it must be damn good.

I started out as a framer and my old man bout me a V28 set cause he was proud that I joined him in the trades….haven’t looked back!

Now that I am in commercial I work for a GC that my Dads company is a sub to a lot of the time, so I still get to play with some of their new toys!

Yaa im.heard festool.is the best tool.i dont.know they.seem a little to clean and highend for my taste but i.have only seen pics and never actually touched or used one

i love lots of brands, Bosch, Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita, Channellock,  etc.

But i think in the end Bosch is my favourite because of their quality and the fact that 92% of their revenue goes to a charitable foundation – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Bosch_Stiftung

DR99Member since Nov 2012

I like Milwaukee, but all the brands make nice nice tools now really. They do have their own flavor Milwaukee is more electrical, hvac, and plumbing related. While the other trades tend to be more Carpentry/General Contractor oriented.

PeteWMember since Aug 2014

depends on the tool but generally DeWalt and Milwaukee,  but more and more i feel like just milwaukee, hopefully we will see some cool things come out from the DeWalt media event this week.

dwainMember since Aug 2013

its worth noting that i suspect many people nominating Milwaukee are doing so on the strength of their cordless offerings. I think most would agree that choosing only one brand for electric (110/240V) tools is folly, but that Milwaukee wouldn’t the best choice if you were.

i based my choice of Bosch on cordless + electric. If I took hand tools into the equation as well (only one brand for everything), I’d probably choose Dewalt.

EDIT: I realise this thread wasn’t a ‘choose one brand’ topic, so I may have gone off on a tangent…

I have to go with Dewalt .. Hmm wonder why.. 😉

As a carpenter I have try almost all brands but I still prefer Dewalt, maybe that’s why I work for them now:-)

Dewalt. My only gripe is have practically every tool they own( well a lot of them). Yet I don’t qualify to be part of their panel on new tools, whatever it’s called.

If I had to pick one brand, where if I need a tool and have to buy strictly by brand, it would probably be Bosch.

Metabo and Milwaukee are my cordless tools of choice.

For corded tools – Hitachi and Metabo.

AdamgMember since Dec 2014

Definatly Milwaukee!! I started with a 2pc Makita set but it was lent out and totally destroyed at the hands of circular saw and a stupid mechanic so I ended up buying a Milwaukee 4pc kit with the cash that the dousch gave me for the Makita he destroyed and haven’t looked back. My shop is loaded with Milwaukee and it will continue to grow red

back in the day any corded tools around the shop that were any good were the Milwaukee’s……boss’s and the like bitched they were so much more money compared but they did the job and did it well…….not to say we didn’t have a few that screwed up but far less than other brands in the day…….so in saying that when I purchase my own tools for home, it was only fitting I went with Milwaukee as well…..now that tools have changed somewhat the Milwaukee brand still serves me well…..I have other brands as well but my fav is the red team….

If you think Bosch you think green Bosch, kitchen stuff or car parts… I think it’s better if the brands is apart..

Chris you did not even need to reply.  We know about your Green obsession.  They really do make some nice tools.   Wish I could afford them and I would be a Festool snob right along with you.

I am a Dewalt guy. I was raised by DeWalt men, between my  grandfather, dad, and uncles. I remember the first time I used a Dewalt miter saw when I was around 10 years old cutting boards for our boat dock.

P.S.

I also live in Pittsburgh a true black and yellow town.

NordrawMember since Dec 2012

DeWalt and Milwaukee are the two for me I would say.

Nalu RashMember since Apr 2015

Damn what a tough question. Like asking someone “Who’s your favorite child?”. It’s hard for me to say.

I think overall though, I would have to give it to DeWalt.

They have a great line of corded and cordless tools that I love. I have two DeWalt Planers and an old DeWalt Radial Arm Saw in my shop. It seems like they even have some great cordless yard tools that I can’t wait to get a hold of.

For cordless, I go with Milwaukee.

M18 Fuel is hard to beat.

For my shop, it goes to Delta.

Panel Saw, Unisaw Tablesaw, Drill Press, Bandsaws, Jointer, Planer, all Delta’s in my shop. Great value tools. It would go to Powermatic if I could afford it though.

Formally, a Custom Sign Shop. Informally, a Custom Everything Shop. When not making custom signs, we make cabinets/furniture, do remodels, anything to keep us busy.

My dad and grandfather were plumbers. I would work with them after school from an early age. The holehawg and sawzall were the go to tools. Lol I always got stuck pushing with a 2×4 from the ground while the holehawg rained chips down on me from above. I grew up with Milwaukee tools, but up until the fuel line I preferred DeWalt cordless tools.

Anyway back to the topic. Here are a few of my favorites

Cordless drills – Milwaukee Fuel M12 & M18

Corded drills – Holehawg

Cordless circ saw – Milwaukee Fuel 2731

Corded circ saw – DeWalt DWE 575

Cordless recip saw – Milwaukee 2720

Corded recip saw – Milwaukee 6519

Corded multi tool – Bosch mx30

Cordless multi tool – tbd

Nailers – Bostitch

Table saw – I like my Emerson made Ridgid 2424

One of my best friends is a descendent of Raymond Dewalt. It’s funny because he talks about how much better he like the sawzall. His family doesn’t have anything to do with the company. My understanding is the company was named after Raymond because he was the one that had the idea for the RAS.

I dont have a favorite brand per se,I go for quality versus price. Im not a contractor of anykind,my expertise is machining and metalworking.

Ive owned many Dewalts and still have several corded ones. Nowadays Im using Bosch 12v and porter cable 20v around the house.

I have a corded Bosch SDS drill and a corded Porter Cable HD circular.

Id probably buy into m18 if there was something I could use alot others may not have.

The sawzall was the one tool that really pushed me over to the M18 platform. I bought the DeWalt DCS387 and returned it after un boxing it. I couldn’t believe how much more vibration it had over the corded sawzalls I’ve used. I picked up the fuel 2720 and couldn’t be happier.

I hear that complaint about the Dewalt recip saw. It just vibrates so bad.

Yeah ive noticed that with my friends Dewalt sawzall.   I have the Porter cable cordless sawzall and I use it fairly often trimming my trees and such with a pruning blade on it. Its not a bad saw for the price and the compactness is nice.

I agree ……if I made my money with my tools I think I would go with Milwalukee or Bosch…. But for the “Weekend Warrior” DeWalt fit the bill. Their Toughsystem can not be beat In my opinion .

I agree that every mfg has good and bad tools. It be cool to have a ratio of good to bad for each mfg. example: brand 1 90:10, brand 2 70:30.

I usually feel more comfortable trying a power tool from DeWalt, Milwaukee, Bosch, etc. It seems like the more of the manufacturers are starting to take advantage of their brand recognition and get into other markets.

Has anyone looked at the new DeWalt nailers at Home Depot. They look a lot like the bostitch nailers I have. The 15 ga even borrowed the blower, latch, and smart point from their bostitch cousins. I guess Home Depot thinks DeWalt will have a bigger following than bostitch in nailers too.
