Milwaukee 46 in. 16-Drawer Tool Chest has anyone purchased one?

I am looking to buy a new tool chest as mine are currently full and wouldn’t mind to get one for my power tools and one for my automotive.

I’ve looked at the 36in DeWalt set, the 52in Husky set, and then I saw this 46in Milwaukee, too bad they are all slightly different sizes as they are not apples to apples but just looking to see if anyone has the Milwaukee chest.

frankiegarcia19Member since Jan 2014

Ive seen that u can purchase it and have it shipped to your nearby store..i want one..i wanna waut til they are viewable in the storea first.

BK13Member since Nov 2013

I’ve not seen to Milwaukee box yet, but for my mostly mechanics tools, it laid out kinda funny. It would be great for more woodworking or construction-type tools. I have seen the Husky, and wasn’t that impressed with the construction of it… sheet metal seemed a little thin. The DeWalt box seemed okay, once again laid out a little funny, and that hideous yellow! 🙂 If I were looking for a ~$300-500 box, I’d be looking awfully hard at the Harbor Freight units.

Huh huh, I said units, huh huh…

DiverDnMember since Jan 2015

Yep, gotta have a unit for your tool….

I like the looks of the Husky’s at HD. Haven’t seen the Harbor Freight boxes.

DPSEliasMember since Mar 2014

Well I just saw one of these at HD and all I have to say is this will be my next box! It has soft closing draws that are awesome!

FazzmanMember since Apr 2014

I saw these milwaukee boxes at HD today, there really isnt anything great about them.they are cheaply made and dont really offer that much storage.

Better of with a box from HF.

You want a really well made toolbox get a Kennedy.

I am a DeWalt guy but I liked them….. It is no Snap on but for the price point it seemed like a good box for a home owner.

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Man Man Man!!!! I regret so bad not picking up one of the Dewalt ones during the holidays they were as low as 3-350$ :/ these are also very nice and the price is not to bad but I’m gonna hold out to see if they get alil cheaper

DPSEliasMember since Mar 2014

I’m going to wait for Memorial Day to be over to see if they go on sale like the dewalt boxes.

I personally like the auto close draws I hate the latching system on the craftsman and I believe HF has a similar system, I like the positive latching of the dewalt and this one

Bought one over the weekend, very happy with it.. Like said above its no snap on or matco or mac. Build quality is the same as dewalt and husky box but there is alot of extra details that this box has over the other two.. Soft close drawers, the laptop shelf drawer actually has detents that lock it in place.. The power tool organizer is pretty cool..the outlets are handy and the peg board seems useful… All in all very good purchase.. And worth the money. Also hanging my chargers on the side is nice saves some space from having them on the side… Post more pictures later on…

Some last second pics from last nite..finished puting my tools in it.. (And knives)

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Congrats and UR lucky Frankie! I would take either brand box man they both look good.i have a snap on one at work and it’s not the full box one like these but for what I spent on that I could’ve bought both milwaukee and Dewalt boxes and had some change left over :/

DR99Member since Nov 2012

I need a bigger tool box so bad!

NordrawMember since Dec 2012

Those Milwaukee boxes are cool as hell. I wish I had the room for another box,

MikeyBMember since Dec 2014

I gotta get one of these boxes one day

NicholasShetleyMember since Nov 2013

I don’t care for the way the drawers are set up on the bottom part but other than that it looks good. It may not be a snap-on or matco box but it also doesn’t have their 5k plus price tag.

thecobraclone58Member since Jun 2015

I bought the milwaukee box and love the thing if you organize your tools right it has plenty of room.

I just got one of these 46″ boxes and the attention to detail and the consistency all around is impressive for the price. Things like the fact that every screw can be hand tightened all the way to snug with little effort to the fact that they put a grommet on the inside the chest bulkhead where no one will see it, not just on the outside, for the top power cable. Also every screw and bolt is matte black to go with the red matte paint and black hardware on the box save for the casters which are chrome. The casters themselves have the really nice on/off foot toggles not to mention they weigh close to 20lbs by themselves. The boxes are also packed very well, which is great considering how heavy they are.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Thanks for the impressions Jerry, I haven’t seen one of these in the wild yet.

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Man today on periscope Dan replaced his dewalt with the new Milwaukee chest and for him to do that tells me that it’s an awesome box and I want it. 😉

That is a pretty telling sign.

Nice microtech collection…. I couldn’t get excited about the zombie tech line until I saw some in person now I want a zombie tech socom delta – guess I’m a little late to that boat.  Also, is that a Chris Olofson bali in the front?

ShuutrMember since Jun 2015

This chest is on my very short list. I hope I can get the funds up before they disappear.

No problem. I’ve been reading here for a long time and watching TiA videos a long time. The information has been invaluable and just trying to give a little back…

Here’s what I was talking about the casters lol:

Here is the inside of the chest showing the grommets I was talking about:

I bought the Milwaukee box over Memorial day weekend. I really liked the box but after organizing my tools, there seems to not be so much room. Have to still use my Craftsman box. The center drawer was loaded with sockets and seemed to open wobley. After examination, the support on the left bottom of draw was loose and hanging down. Didn’t want to load the box back on the truck, too heavy. Emailed Milwaukee, got no response, went down to Home Depot they didn’t have and more toolboxes. I just JB welded the center support and put the 1/2 inch sockets in the top chest. Don’t know if I would buy another box from HD again.

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

Ouch that sucks. That might be the first bad thing I’ve seen about the build of these boxes. They are so heavy and boxed up so completely that they would be a major pain to have to bring back to the store so I feel for you. Sorry to hear about your bad experience.

AuToOvErRiDeMember since Jun 2015

Thanks Jerry, other than no response from Milwaukee, the box seems ok now. Maybe I overloaded the drawer. I think the HF boxes have two drawer slides instead of one on the long drawer. Anyway looks like the JB weld is holding.

ShuutrMember since Jun 2015

How wrong would it be to buy the milwaukee bottom and dewalt top?

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

Might look a little retina searing with all that red and yellow but I don’t see a problem as long as you like it 😉

crone_electricMember since Jun 2015

If I had the money I would buy one in a heart beat I’ve seen them at home depot and I have watched a lot of reviews and the power strip it has in the top is awesome the only other one I would get would maybe be the kobalt one at lowes just for the fact of the built in speaker but it’s kinda point less for me since I have a sound system I am putting in my shed/shop when I get it finished

Down sizing my tool box from a snap on to Milwaukee box. Enough room plus have money left over to buy gen2 fuel. Plus power to both boxes is awesome.

PeteWMember since Aug 2014

everytime i go to home depot i see them, they won’t stop saying buy me buy me , but i have no room for them!

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

I’ve never had metal pegboard before this chest and while I like it the pegs seem to rattle around a little more loosely than hardboard because the metal is thinner than the usual wood obviously, still a nice gauge though. I found a solution to this and to even use thinner 1/8″ peg accessories too. I bought a black vinyl coated screwdriver holder at Sears that was 1/8″ and used those dishwasher repair nub things, you can get them on Amazon for like $8 per hundred, on the the tips and it snugs up the peg in the hole nicely and improves the fit and eliminates much of the rattle and movement. They even work on 1/4″ pegs, albeit very tightly, and makes the 1/4″ practically immovable. Those dishwasher repair tips I’ve used over the years for all sorts of applications, like when a small bolt’s threads protrude from something and you want to make it safer etc. or even making soft feet for something made of thin wire/rod. You could do the same with plastidip but nothing beats the instant gratification of having them on hand for a quick and tidy fix. Here are some pix:

Weird, I was over on HD.com and was thinking of posting a review for the tool chest and I can’t seem to find it on the site anymore. Is it just me or did they pull it from the site? I wonder why if they did? Maybe they sold out of the first batch?

Related to this.  My buddy was at HD yesterday and wanted one of the Milwaukee boxes pretty badly.  He only could find 3 of the the lower sections and 1 complete display model.  So he asked an employee, who responded that Milwaukee has discontinued them! WHAT! They are, like you said, no longer on the HD site. On the Milwaukee site when you click “shop online” it says “No sellers found for this product” in either the US or Canada.  Everyone ive heard/read from thought these things were amazing, idk why they are discontinuing them (If that really is the case).

Has anyone heard any official statements from Milwaukee?  Maybe someone can call or email Milwaukee and get one! I’d be bummed if it were true cause I really wanted one when i get more space.

I’ll hold out hope that they are just temporarily gone to release an improved version lol.

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

Yeah, HD had that green tag on the site that said “Special Buy” so they could have been a test marketing thing. They sold out pretty quick around here for such a big ticket item so maybe now they will improve them and streamline production to make them more inexpensive to build. They seem so much better built and chock full of features compared to the competition that Milwaukee just wants to dip their toes in the market pool. BTW they prominently feature “Batch A” on the side labels which I doubt they’d bother with if they intended to be one and done, so don’t lose hope. I do wonder if they might raise the price a tad though. In any event I’m glad I hauled the top and bottom home despite the fact it took two trips and I had to unload them and set them up by myself 😉

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

Btw if anyone who hasn’t seen one in person wonders what they look and feel like in person they seem remarkably similar to Diablo’s red 220 grit sandpaper, no joke.

Dishwasher Rack Tip Tine Covers  It took me a few minutes to search on amazon, but they have them in a few colors.

They also went up $100 WTF, should of bought one when they were $698

ankurMember since Jul 2015

yup, they sure did raise the price. by $50 on each piece if you buy it separately. it certainly seemed like too good a value when it came out. guess they’ve been monitoring the forums and gotten good enough feedback to raise the prices. good for them, bad for us.

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

They did have those special buy tags on them in the store and online. I’m not sure how much BS “special buy” really is but one of the reasons I bought mine was I wasn’t sure about the future availability and or price. That and the fact that the boxes seemed too good to be true at those original price points.

DPSEliasMember since Mar 2014

I was going to buy on during the Father’s Day sales, but I needed to redo the garage floor before anymore tool chests are brought in….that was the deal with the misses, kind of wish I never made that deal and just ordered it

Santi_78342Member since Jul 2015

I knew I should have bought one when they first came out! Now I will have to wait until they go on sale somewhere!
