I got this bad boy in yesterday, and trimmed / edged with it. I was mighty impressed, especially for something that takes a little tool battery. I posted up an amazon review, which I linked below that has more detailed thoughts.
I should get the blower in tomorrow to try out.
Now if DeWalt would just put out a 20v hedge trimmer, and a good 40x chainsaw, I’d be all team yellow for outdoor stuff!!
i wanna see the blower 😀
I’d love to see a chainsaw in the family. I probably need to suck it up and get a backpack Stihl blower, living in 3 acres of woods, so the blower isn’t so interesting for me. However, my string trimmer is a prime candidate for going electric and if they’d come out with a chainsaw that used the same batteries, that would probably be enough to make me give them my money. Until then, I’m eyeballing the new Ego 56v OPE.
let us know how u like the blower man.
The Greenworks 80v stuff is pretty nice. With the amount of area you have you probably do need a backpack blower
The 40V blower is awesome! I’ve been using it for almost a couple months. It’s powerful, ergonomic, well balanced and super easy to use.
Whats the runtime on it like Ricky?
OK, I put a review up for the blower. Bottom line, it’s around the same power as the Greenworks 40v brushless, while also having 50% more runtime. Not bad!
Nice review Josh Thanks for sharing with us.
wow the runtime is way better than the greenworks
I was really surprised.
I guess the Greenworks is really developing a lot of pressure against the smaller nozzle, versus the DeWalt going more for volume… the Greenworks has a heavier impeller that can withstand leaf mulching too, so that may be part of it.
I need to get a picture up of the DeWalt’s fan (the tube comes separate so you get to see it up close)… it looks just like a jet engine, cone and all.
Nice to hear. I am looking to go with the battery format in the near future.
That trimmer and blower seem awesome! I would like to have the blower on site when we frame just to clean the work area up a bit at times or before you snap lines for your walls.

I estimate I’m getting nearly 30 minutes. Maybe more.
wow that’s great runtime Ricky. Thanks man!RickyMcGrath wrote:

I actually got a lot more runtime yesterday. I dropped the power to the “low” setting and nearly trimmed and edged my whole yard and had some battery left for the blower.
That’s over 80′ of sidewalk (both sides), 120′ or curb, about 65 feet of flower beds and a 40′ long driveway.
It was a deep edging too as I haven’t mowed in almost three weeks so it was over due for a deep hard cut edging. And the runner roots in St Augistine grass are ridiculously tough so it took a beating for sure.
man Ricky im so close to jumping on one of these battery lawn platforms cus my mower has been acting up and shutting off while cutting the grass im gonna do a tune up on it and see how it does but I just remember doin one last summer. I really hope Dewalt comes out with a mower that would make me pull the trigger in a instant.
I’m inclined to go the professional line route, but I’m already invested in the 20V line. Maybe a hint from one of the reps about the future of 40V could persuade me…? In all seriousness, has anyone directly compared the 20V trimmer/blower to their 40V counterpart?
Got my 20v blower in today and got to play with it for a few minutes. In short it will work well for my use but of course this ain’t no gas powered monster. In my quick test it would blow away small gravel on pinpoint wide open throttle which is good, but say past about 6 ft some simple seagrape leaves laying on the ground in some 4in grass were kind laughing at it, which isn’t.
Need more time to test and play but I like it, it’s quieter than I expected and even if it were half as good as I think it is it would still be a smoking deal for the price with a charger and 5.0ah battery.
In short: buy it if you can use it, buy a real one if you have to have it.
Hugh where did u purchaseit? I’ve been waiting for it to hit the HD websight
yeah man where did you get it from? im sign up at HD.com when it comes “in stock”
I posted in the other thread for the blower saying hai guyz I found it in stock and it went completely ignored. CPO has them in stock and they’re selling through Amazon.
Both of you even posted in it right after me, lol.

LOL! Sorry Hugh I remember why I didn’t jump on it now, awhile back when the dclo50 dewalt light came out and I ordered through them they didn’t receive them for awhile and I was stuck waiting while lowes already had them in stock not to talk bad about Toolnut cus they kept me updated and took very good care of me in the end. Plus I gotta wait for dang HD to stock them cus I have some gift cards to spend there.
Hugh hopefully U can test the runtime for us soon and post pics of that badboy!
stopped by lowes today and checked out the Dewalt lawn tools and i gotta say the 20v string trimmer looked and felt solid and light at the same time when my gas one decides to take a dump im jumping on this one. i even saw the 20v blower there today no display just in the box if they would except HD gift cards i woulve been posting pics right now!!
the blower is back in stock at HD. i gonna wait a little bit. i hope that they gonna have a sale on that one….something similar like the 40V tools…..free battery or maybe a lower price
dude MM ur really gonna like it, its pretty badass.
yeah i can definitely imagine that.
1. gotta wait until fall because Bosch gonna release their Blower in EU. Depends on price if i gonna get it.
2. if its way to pricy, then i go with Dewalts Blower
3. i hope that dewalt has a promo soon for the 20V blower
the 20V blower, i cant find it as a bare tool. Why’s that????
Agree Proto I’m not gonna give up my gas blower yet, if u get the chance bro u gotta try this blower out it really impressed me and I know its not Red 😉 but try it man and of course it’s no gas blower but it did real good blowing my little avocados that fell and lil tangerines in my back yard it even blew the rocks back into place where my kiddos ride there bikes.
(Rather than make a new thread I’ll post this here)
I’ve just used the 20V trimmer for the first time and I’m VERY impressed. It’s the Australian version which has a wide guard and is a type 2 build. It’s supposed to be a Christmas present so I’ve put it back in the box (the wife will never know).
I had it running on low and it did everything I threw at it (what would be classed as home owner trimming). I definitely could have pushed it harder if longer grass was available. The high setting seems to have a good amount of power and I don’t think there’s been anything I’ve done in the past that it couldn’t handle on high.
Very smooth, great feeling grip, although a bit too front heavy and perhaps a little short (I’m 6’3″). It’s probably fine and just a matter of getting used to the new ergonomics; I only just used my gas trimmer 2 days ago.
I do not like the 33cm swath but I’ll get used to it. Until now I’ve been using a 41cm swath so this seems way too small. I’m also used to a small guard (like the USA version of this), so the guard seems huge!
I think I do have some regret not getting the flexvolt for the larger swath and longer length (it was $140 more but included a free 6ah flexvolt battery), although I figure it would be heavier and have less runtime. I wish I could have tested them both before buying.
This is such a great tool though, and I’m looking forward to doing a full yard with it.
Another tick for Dewalt. Every tool I’ve bought from them I’m impressed with.
I just had this thing running in 39C heat for 20 minutes. Definitely impressed with the runtime. It’s still showing full charge (90% was on low speed).
I still don’t like the 13″ swath and after using it some more it’s really the only thing remaining that leaves me to question whether I should have waited and went for Flexvolt (15″), Ego (15″), or even M18 (with it’s 16″ swath!). It’s perfectly fine though, I’d still recommend getting this trimmer.
It looks like there’s another 1/2″ of room under the guard so I’m thinking of making a custom blade to get the swath up to 14″. If people are running larger line then I figure the extra length with the standard line should be ok.
@D W could wait for the new 40v which is going to be 17 in.

17 would be great.
Because the 20V swath is so short i’m finding that the bump feed is almost constantly in contact with the ground when the trimmer is angled downwards to trim the grass low. Maybe improving my style will help, but I suspect the trimmer head is too big and the line too short.
@D W what I was told back when I worked for a pro mower was to keep the string/cut parallel to the ground. Some cases may require a bit of tilt. I would say a 15in is a good all around size. not too big but not too small.

Thanks.
I think I’ve developed a bad style for edging due to using a gas trimmer that wouldn’t run when tipped to one side.
I edge front on (with the edge directly in front of me) while walking sideways and moving the trimmer up and down as I go along (with a slight angle to trim it down to ground level). In some ways it’s a good way to edge as it saves line (it doesn’t contact the concrete/ground) and allows you to keep holding the trimmer in the normal position. I only started doing it this way out of necessity.
I have to say, this 20V trimmer is very easy to use when turned it on it’s side. Much faster edging than how I’ve been doing it so far.
I love the 20v outdoor tools, blower, trimmer, chainsaw, hedge trimmer and the soon to be lawn mower I’m sure will retire my ego self propelled…..
