Well,
Today I got a new Keynote from my Makita representative in the store. The most interesting thing:

For those of you not speaking dutch ( Like everyone on here? =p )
Batteries with a Led capacity indicator are finally coming.
Here in belgium it’s a ‘silent’ release which means no model number will change. No price on a tool will change. As soon as old stock of the tools are gone they will start shipping newer ones with the ‘new’ batteries.
Only a small icon on the outside of box can tell us if the ‘newer’ batteries will be included.
There’s no time frame yet. All I know is that the batteries are in production and that I’ll get them automatically in my store when old stock is gone.
I’ve already contacted Makita Belgium to see if there are any tools yet which have these batteries at this time. Want to take a pic 🙂
is there a reason they waited until now? I guess Makita followers will jump on and want to get batteries with a fuel gauge…..
Ooh yeah!!!!! That’s the most exciting news I’ve heard in a long time!
Any mention of the BL reciprocating saw??
No reason was given to me 🙂 up untill now my representative always said it was ` too expensive ‘. Bullshit explenation of course 🙂
Nothing on the bl recip ! Sorry ner 😀
No worries. One step at a time… for now the battery charge indicators is a great improvement
You could start bugging some of the makita big dogs about info on the recip saw if you wanted to though 😉
Maybe try to light a fire under their ass!!
great news.
I plan to buy into the Makita line up later in the year. this was one of the major draw backs of the Makita system.
I use the indicators on my dewalts all the time
wow makita made a step forward 😛
Of course these are coming out. I just bought 2 5.0aH batteries.
Well who needs indicators on 5.0ah batteries
Nice!! I just can’t beleive how long they took
I feel ya.. I got five 4ah batteries at the beginning of the year just before the 5’s came out and now this…M80 wrote:

It will take me a while before I transition over to batteries that have the indicators but it’s better now than never!
Hahahahahahahahahaha that sucks. Just got my 4.0 in the mail today 🙁 oh well, I knew what I was buying!
i suppose that picture indicates that there are 4 lights, like Milwaukee and FEIN. I reckon they should have stepped it up to five, but its a great step for Makita!
better 4 than the 3 they put on their tools.. I never liked how with 2 out of 3 bars you could have anywhere between 50% (enough for a decent amount of work with some tools) or 20% (not enough for anything) 50-20% is too wide of a rangedwain wrote:

Thus is some real progressive thinking 🙂 I wasn’t much of a believer in the indicators just thought they were a waste of money and could be used elsewhere on the tool, but since getting my 20vs and the m12 I no longer need to put my batteries in a line so I knew which ones were full or not. Now I can’t live with out them….times are changing!
Well it will probably be months before current stock runs out and will be replaced w<ith the newer ones i’d guess. But as soon as I get one in my store i’ll put a pic up 😀
I’m glad Makita finally jumped on the battery indicator bandwagon. I just hope it doesn’t take them forever to release these in the US.
Here’s a page from the Latin America Makita catalog.
http://www.makitalatinamerica.com/ebook/ebook_pr/data/950/src/950_14.pdf
Shows us ( very small ) the BL1850B, BL1840B and the BL1820B.
4.0 Amp, 5.0 Amp en 2.0 Amp batteries with battery indicator 🙂
As soon as i get my hands on one I’ll post pics !
wow a big step for makita lol 😀
Yeah about time they followed EVERY other brand out there with this 😛
I found this image on Google from directindustry.com, wonder if this is anything like what the indicator will look like.
Thats an ‘ old ‘ type of battery thats been along for some time but wasnt available in all countries and was quite expensive 🙂

Damn, I like having the fuel gauge on the front of the battery because on certain tools (for example the sds drills) the back of the battery is covered by the tool and you have to remove battery to check fuel level.

Can’t believe you guys have talking about this for nearly 3 months and still no one has put up any pics!!

I don’t know if anyone is interested in this, but here is the Safety Data Sheet for the BL1840B battery.

Keep calling them!! lol Its about time they put indicators on there stuff.
The 2.0Ah LED batteries should be available in September from the new XFD10R and XDT11R compact kits. I’m not sure when the full sized LED batteries will be released.
Aha lovely Bishop !
Are that 2 new combo kits you’ll be getting in america? Or 2 new kits as in new tools? =)

They are newer versions of the XDT04 and XFD01. They are 25% faster but with the same amount of torque. They should retail for $179-$199 a kit.
Why does Makita insist on making their batteries look so “generic”?
They look like a knock-off version of a real prodect, IMAO.
Ow OK cool 🙂 updates on their brushed Models then 🙂
Seen this over on pro tool reviews, makita new 12v line up with battery indicators. http://www.protoolreviews.com/news/makita-12v-tools-slide-pack/17103/
I own milwaukee drills and makita and honeslty i dont see the big deal with the battery indicator on the battery lol on batttery on the tool its all the same really not a big deal to slap the battery in an check lol kinda gimmicky i think

Agreed, a manly drill needs a manly battery-pack. 😛
Though, the full sized packs looks and feel a bit silly on the very compact impact drivers/wrench (the capacity is at least overkill deluxe on thoose) My ears bleeds out long before the power cuts out on impact drivers/wrenches. 😛
Compact battery packs with compact equipment fits nice. If only I could find a easy/not incredibly expensive way to get some compact batteries…

Thats the upcoming 12v max 4 amp slide pack it seems 🙂
Oh goodie!!! I will find a reason to buy the kit lol. I’m sure they will extend their 12v with more tools. Maybe upgrade their recip saw.

Yeah that’s already been hinted by Makita that their lineup will be more extensive then the current one.
That’s all I need to hear. The saving starts now lol
I dont know if im gonna save up for a 12v collection or for the brushless 36v mitre saw 😛
I like that it has 4 bars instead of 3, 4 is perfect 5 is to many 🙂

From the Official Makita.biz website
Maybe they will have battery charging times and days passed from first charge as Milwaukee have.
Not sure what you mean with that? 🙂
