Well it’s FINALLY here! Not only is the eagerly awaited video up, but so is our new site! If you want to see our full review, please check it out! http://oztooltalk.com/hammer_drill_comparison/
If you really really wanna see the video without going to our new site (and risk making me cry) …
Edit: UPDATED VIDEOS ARE UP! Sorry for the mess about. Prepare to be shocked.
DAMMIT I gotta wait till my next break to watch!!
thanks for doing all of the hard work to get this review up, Dwain. So as to keep you from crying, I went and checked it out on your site and you guys did tremendous job, just as you usually do.
Awesome job, thanks so much to you and Mike for the huge undertaking. Clicked on the site and bookmarked to prevent any tears. Looking forward to more OTT in the future! (Also pleased to see a strong showing from the red team).
Man I know that was a lot of work guys!! Thank u guys! Can’t wait to the results of what u guys think, I do gotta say that Makita was whoopin ass it seemed like.
insane!!! you guys killed it that was obviously a ton of work and I (and I’m sure everyone) appreciates the time and effort you put into it!
well worth the wait 🙂
can’t say i was shocked but i was very glad to see Makita come out on top!! that drill is a power house
is that a new website? looks great
Yea NER the makita killed it bro I’m pretty impressed with the bosch 2 being that it wasn’t brushless it did pretty good. But once again great job!!
Respect to you guys..!! Great job..
Great job guys, any reason you did not use Makitas handle during the first test when the other drills you used the handles?
I’m surprised that makita didn’t win everything
Singed NickyB his son
Thanks all! It was definitely a bigger task than I realised, a labour of love and hate 😉

as we mentioned at the end of Part 2, we have unfortunately misplaced the handle of the Makita. It’s the one drill you really need it for 😛
Amazing video guys ! Points to Bosch for their brushed still keeping up !
I thought the Bosch performed admirably!
Great job Dwain. You guys did a really comprehensive series of tests! Too bad on Metabo, but really amazed at how Makita is performing better and better.
Such a fantastic, comprehensive test!! Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together. Great help for deciding what tool is better.
o oh 🙁 looks like were didn’t use the Metabo correctly, and so didn’t score or analyse it properly 🙁 🙁
Next week I’ll be re-releasing it with updated commentary, and new scoring. Possibly even a new winner, we shall see!
I’m curious to hear how you used a drill wrong. I hope that doesn’t come off the wrong way, but you usually put a drill bit in and drill with a drill. I didn’t know you needed drill lessons now 🙂
yeah the Metabo drill has a weird button on the top for engaging the clutch, rather than the standard dial. its quite easy to bump it into clutch mode. you should notice the red light come on, but we didn’t…
Metabo wasn’t happy with the results I take it!! In the videos it didn’t seem like the drill was clutching out rather an overload protection cutting power.. it will be interesting to see if the new results are different..

Nah haven’t heard a peep from Metabo, they don’t seems to give a crap about PR. But someone on youtube pointed out the drill was in clutch mode (red light on top is visible in video), and I’m way to OCD to let something like that pass. I like to think I have some integrity …
this is the best comparison video about hammer drills ever made in my opinion.
thanks Shade, that’s what we set out to achieve!
Doing our final re-filming tonight. With any luck the video will be re-released later this week. Its gonna hurt our numbers and lose all it’s momentum though 🙁
Can’t you just ad an annotation to the original video? I would hate for you guys to lose out on the views and such. It covers the fact that you have revised the test.
I’d love to Jason! But there’s just so much that wouldn’t be correct anymore, it would be a mess. Plus some people have annotations switched off anyway. I’d rather do it properly.
I’ll annotate the originals to link to the revised videos, so hopefully much of their momentum will go straight to the new vids.
I think you should boycott Metabo next time for their crazy clutch system!! I just hate to see that happen over a video you guys put a ton of effort in.
yeah its a pain. but honestly, if we’d read up a bit more, done a little more homework, we would have avoided it.The Metabo was the only one we weren’t already very familiar with.
You do have that, but Metabo should put clear instructions about how their drill is different from the others. To be honest I never read the instructions on most power tools. Assembly instructions yet, but operation instructions not often, I just figure if you use one drill you have used them all 🙂
I’m still a,aged at that Metabo too and the review and comparison of the too.s were fantastic Dwain. I don’t see a lot of negative feedback so seeing a real demo was quite interesting.
well its a good thing the Metabo does have something to be annoyed by, because we can’t find anything else to fault it on…
*hint hint*
Man dwain I’m excited to c the update!
NEW VIDEOS ARE UP! Prepare to be shocked!
Just got done watching them and wow Whata difference in that metabo great job guys!!!
Yeah its a crazy difference. With better data on that main test, it showed its true colours.
Now I have to buy a new drill. Someday.
ooooooh boy.. now you gone and done it!!! how dare you take the crown from Makita!?!?! just kidding… kinda 🙂
no doubt the Metabo crushed that run time test.. it was unreal actually.. BUT.. let me make an argument if i may 🙂
1. dock the Metabo 1 point for having a easy to accidentally engage clutch and/or being the most expensive in the test.. hell, dock it 2 points for all i care! haha
2. add one extra point to the makita for having the largest, most complete line of cordless tools and im guessing the longest running battery platform.
3. somehow squeak a point in there for makita for being the fastest in every test!!.
There it is guys. Makita winner :)… if you want to push the makita over the top we could always turn that crazy 8 out of 10 in the comfort score into a 9 and we have a solid Makita winner!!!!
I hope you know im not actually picking your review apart at all 😉 all in good fun, im really just being a sore loser LOL
in all honesty, like i said before, great review and testing.. it speaks a lot about you guys that you went back and retested tools to make sure your information was as accurate as possible.. Nice work!
thanks NER, appreciate the feedback! yeah scoring is totally subjective, so Makita can be your winner quite easily. I’ll give you my take on a couple of your points if I may (below in blue).

probably a bit harsh. once you owned the drill, you’d quickly get used to it.
2. add one extra point to the makita for having the largest, most complete line of cordless tools and im guessing the longest running battery platform.
whilst that is certainly an important consideration, we are only comparing drills 😛

yeah, we considered giving the Metabo a 9 for timber performance, but its 38mm performance was just so impressive that we couldn’t in the end. the Makita did score better in masonry, so we were happy with that overall.

overall, we think that power, runtime and comfort are the most important considerations, and the Metabo is easily the winner when looking at these three criteria. If you added in Metabo’s ultra fast charger to that kit, we’d have given it a perfect 50/50 score.
Great reviews Dwain, thanks for putting in the hard yards, I gave u boys some props in my review – https://youtu.be/_5J0vdj3fIw . What have u guys got coming up next?dwain wrote:

Oh my gosh! This is by far the best tool comparison video I’ve ever seen! You guys nailed it, and I was really happy with the fact that you really tested these tools, and I felt your ratings were extremely fair for each of the tools. Good thing I bought a Milwaukee lol. You guys should totally become the official TIA sister site. You got my vote. Keep up the awesome work! 🙂
Thanks buddy. We put a hell of a lot of work into that one.
We sort of were TIA’s Aussie sister channel, unofficially 🙂
Very nice indeed!
So many variables to decide what fits your own needs or typical usage, I think warranty is a big issue If you use them every day?
I bought my share of tools in the last 30 years and got stung a few times and it leaves a sour taste for a long time…lol
An another note, Charge time? I thought a while back with the Ni-Cad batts (I don’t miss them) it wasn’t good for them to charge them to fast and may shorten the life span, If so?
How do the new Lithium batts quick charging compare with longevity? Wonder if it’s better to have a extras one and not push it too much?
Maybe a little parinoid at times but I try not to let my batts bake in the hot sun as well in fear of damaging them…lol
Great review!
Many thanks
Great jobs guys..awesome and fair review!!
Just saw this review and think it’s great! Good job!
Thanks guys 🙂
Nice work.
I’ve never had the chance to try out a Metabo. Looks like I may have to find one.
