Milwaukee has a new compact series which looks like direct competition for  dewalts compact XR 20v series

theres is a dril/driver  an impact a sawzall and a hammer drill.. looks to be priced exactly the same as the XR dewalt series as well at $269 for a combo kit.. any takers?  i will be giving this a good hard look since i was looking at the XR series

I’d love the combo kit, but I don’t really like the bags they come with. I guess I’m one of the few that actually likes the blow-molded cases.

I would imagine I’ll get the impact driver. I can’t see needing another drill, with an M12 Fuel, a brushed M18, and an 18v Makita already. But stranger things have happened…

Nice find toolcop

BremonMember since Dec 2014

From what I can tell the difference between the brushless and Fuel is apparently the Fuel has more rugged construction. The Fuel impact has multiple torque settings. The drill driver for Fuel has the collar switch between drill and drive versus drill being on the same selector as the clutch setting. The hammer drill I’m not sure.

I do like the size of the 2701. It’s shorter than the 2403. Has me waiting on m12 vs compact m18 for a second drill.

James DuncanMember since Feb 2015

yeah i wanted something more powerful than m12 but m18 fuel is overkill for my needs  this and the dewalt xr compact series fit my bill… now that big red has a set coming o9ut im gonna wait for the reviews and comparisions

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Yeah it seems like a great set. Been debating 2402 or 2403 but this drill might be a better fit;

compact/short and still lighter than the 2604, which sometimes is more than I’d like to lug around for small tasks.

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

so did u end up pre-order that kit?

Samuel L.Member since Sep 2014

This Might sway me to team Red.

I know the feelin Sam…

All the cool kids are doing it. You know you want to. It’ll make you feel good. LOL

James DuncanMember since Feb 2015

i didnt pre order but im very close to … its weird  dewalt has better impact bits (flextorq) and milwaukee might have better drills  might have to mix them up ..i am debating waiting for reviews and head to head tests against the dewalt xr compact 20v series or just taking the leap and pre ordering these..

Toolcop either way U go U won’t be disappointed man both are great brands.

This definitely gets rid of my previous dislike of the old fuel 1/4″ hex impact why would anyone need 200 ft/lbs on a 1/4″ hex didnt make sense to me that is too much power.

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

wow thats a lot

BremonMember since Dec 2014

The 1/4″ hex is 1600 inch pounds. 133 ft lbs. It’s the 3/8 anvil that’s 200 ft lbs. With 3 speeds it works quite well. The 2750 is 125 ft lbs with no speed selector, so you’ll just have to feather the trigger a little more on lighter applications.

NERemodelingMember since Aug 2014

I think this is a nice setup.. great for someone who doesn’t want full blown fuel and the price tag but they do want brushless

comp56Member since Sep 2014

I just love my fuel stuff, I don’t know why……oh ya…… cause I do….

Bryanp292Member since Aug 2014

The compact brushless drill makes sense to me because of the smaller size and lighter weight compared to the M18 FUEL line of drills.  But the impact to me isn’t going to sell as well by itself.  The impact kit with two batteries is going to cost around $199.  For $30 dollars more, you can pick up the FUEL brushless impact with the 3 speed settings and have a bit more versatility.  I believe the only reason they came out with that impact is to combo it with those compact drills.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Well the way I look at it is this, the M18 Fuel hammer is too big for the use it’s going to get out of me in most cases. The old M18 compact drill is the most comfortable drills I’ve ever used but mine was a piece of crap. The speed selector got stuck repeatedly and the chuck would jam. I got rid of it and that’s when I went to Makita. Then the Fuel line came out and I had to have it so switched back. The hammer is super powerful but it’s also super big (with full size batteries). If I had to guess, I bought my M18 compact when it first came out and they have fixed all the problems with those drills. Check the reviews, they are solid machines. Additionally Milwaukee is really up front with brushless technology. They are going to put that into a Premium brushless hammer drill and impact with 4.0 batteries for $299. Those batteries will work with every tool in the m18 line. That’s a really good deal. Am I going to dump my DCD985? Not anytime soon. It just bored out a crap load of holes and screwed in a crap load of tap cons for me without any problem. But for $299 you get a brushless hammer drill, a brushless impact driver, 2 4.0 batteries, charger and bag. I paid the same price for my non brushless but American made kit (I got a free 20v circular saw though!!). That is a good deal from a great manufacturer with a phenomenal warranty.

Will I switch to Makita….well after looking at the porn shoot that NER did of his new brushless circular saw and jig……???????

Its all about what trade you do and what tools you need.

frankiegarcia19Member since Jan 2014

I like it alot, just dont know why hey changed the looks of the grip, almost all the fuel line has them same diamond pattern grip, these are different..dont matter tho still awesome

BremonMember since Dec 2014

The Fuel has the wrap-around rubber, the entire brushed line up has the lightning bolt cutout. These models aren’t Fuel models, and are replacements for the more basic brushed models so have the same basic casing. My thoughts anyway.

FrosBros82Member since Feb 2015

Seems like this might be the way to go if you’re not looking for overkill with your drill/impact. I own the 18 fuel and they are nice, but that drill is a complete hog and it kind of heavy in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, it works great on the site, but this new kit seems like something that would be good for smaller applications or even at home use.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

I agree with FrosBros, the 2653 is the ultimate impact driver in my opinion, but the 2604 is a big pig that I hate to drag out when I don’t need that much power. 5lb isn’t that heavy but compared to a 2.9-3.5lb smaller drill, you definitely notice the difference, hence my fence-sitting on this vs the M12 Fuel for around-the-house tasks. I only own 4.0 m18s so if this goes on sale for a decent price with 2.0 I may jump, otherwise I’ll put my m12 4.0s to work.

FrosBros82Member since Feb 2015

I own the 12v fuel and I like it better than my 18v to be honest. Don’t get me wrong, the 18v has it’s place, otherwise I wouldn’t have bought it. However, for around the house and woodworking I think the 12v is the way to go. So much lighter and there isn’t really anything that it can’t do in terms of house remodels and so forth.

Yea honestly I really want to buy the M12 tool kit because dragging out my full size dewalt stuff from the garage is a hassle when doing small around the house stuff and sometimes they have too much power for the small stuff.

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

U won’t regret it Sam, I have the Dewalt 20v line for bigger projects and the m12 line and I gotta say I really like the the m12 system a lot man.

frankiegarcia19Member since Jan 2014

Ur right Bremon, i know realize that it doesnt say fuel, got caught up with it being brushless.. So i guess this is the first not fuel brushless from team red

FrosBros82Member since Feb 2015

Yeah, it is all dependent on what you are going to be doing. I think that the m12 system is perfect for random stuff around the house and work working personally. Small enough for any application, but still powerful.

im leaning towards this vs the dewalt Xr series just dont want to pre order something then read a review a week later finding some major flaw or that its not as good etc….. im also debating buying this combo or just get a brushless m18fuel drill cons are its larger heavier and only 1 tool vs  impact and drill for close to same price

Samuel L.Member since Sep 2014

I talked to the Milwaukee rep at work and he said the new brushless stuff is what they are going to use to replace the current non fuel stuff this will not have the same wow factor, build quality, or ingenuity as the fuel line this is basically a replacement for the 2691-22 then again I think Milwaukee is doing the right thing not calling it fuel because it does not give the false impression that its there the top of the line.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Milwaukee just updated the brushed tools not that long ago about a year and a 1/2 if that. Maybe they think they need to do it to compete with the other tool companies to have a more budget brushless tools

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Milwaukees smart with DOIN this move.

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

brushless tools is the way to go

NERemodelingMember since Aug 2014

I haven’t seen it out or heard of any reviews yet but I would recommend this be the way you go… very few people will ever utilize the full potential of the top end drills and impacts. It’s a good bet that this will be plenty powerful for your needs.

I would take Milwaukee over Dewalt any day, they make excellent products, have a great 18v line if you ever wanted to expand and I would think there is very little chance that either of these are going to have any issues. That’s what return policy’s and warrantys are for, right!!

James DuncanMember since Feb 2015

im tempted to just get an m18 fuel brushless drill/driver setup like the 2603-22ct with 2 2.0 batteries… for my needs it might be plenty and i was just getting the combo for the cheaper impact… i can most likely live with just the drill especially if i buy the more powerful fuel one .. i like the auto shut off feature (redlink plus) in the fuel line to prevent drill damage.. does anyone know if the new compact line even has that built in?  might be a deciding factor .Oddly enough m,y wife of all people brought that up last night

James DuncanMember since Feb 2015

i just read it does… hmmm i read up on the dewalt xr 20v and saw alot of loose battery and complaint about chuck wobble … so right now im between a full sized m18fuel brushless drill or the m18 compact combo set… i

James DuncanMember since Feb 2015

finally ordered the combo kit!!!   got some sweet black oxide drill bits and a shockwave 66pc bit set also .. the search is over 🙂

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Nice!! Congrats man!! Post some pics!

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

great that you picked a kit – congrats on it and let us know how you like it – maybe a unboxing video 😛

NERemodelingMember since Aug 2014

Congratulations! Solid choice!!

Seems like you’ll be the first out of the TIA crew to get your hands on these so you definitely have to give us all some feedback

Good for you tool cop. Be sure to let us know what you think of the brushless tools. You’ll probably be the first guy to get them so it would be neat to get your opinion.

James DuncanMember since Feb 2015
